Girls name Kodia

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone,

I would love to get your thoughts on Kodia for a girls name? [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I made it up but I’m a bit reluctant as it’s so unique…

Thx

I like it, it’s sweet and I love K names. I’ve heard of Kodah being a name and Kodia is so much cuter!

It’s NMSAA. It just sounds super made up.

It’s not my style. It’s really close to [name_f]Kodiak[/name_f] and makes me think of [name_f]Kodiak[/name_f] bears, boots, and [name_f]Alaska[/name_f]. I’d prefer a name with a similar sound like [name_f]Claudia[/name_f], [name_f]Acadia[/name_f], [name_f]Acacia[/name_f], or [name_f]Lydia[/name_f].

On the other hand, I think it’s usable as it’s not that different from a lot of popular girls’ names.

I quite like it!

Thanks!! But now I’m really unsure and I have only 3 weeks to go!!!

I didn’t think it was a real name when I first saw it. It’s too similar to [name_f]Kodiak[/name_f].

I don’t think it sounds bad but the obvious nickname of [name_u]Kody[/name_u] turns me off.

Hmm, I think it’s usable, but I’m not a huge fan of made-up names. I would prefer [name_m]Koda[/name_m] or [name_u]Dakota[/name_u] nn [name_m]Koda[/name_m], but these are Native American names so I’m not sure if they’re usable for you.

[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] for whatever reason. I don’t mind [name_f]Alaska[/name_f], but it also sounds like a variation of the dated [name_u]Cody[/name_u]. As far as being made up, I don’t think it is out there.

I should mention that we are in Australia so the name is not really associated with [name_f]Kodiak[/name_f] bears or native Americans etc. It came about because we loved the name [name_u]Cody[/name_u] for a boy but found out we are having a girl!

I prefer Coda over Kodia. But then I know too many dogs named Coda/[name_m]Koda[/name_m] so it’s not usable for a kid for me.

It sounds a made-up, but has a sweetness to it. NMS. If you love it, then I don’t think it’s awful the way some made-up names really are.

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] nn [name_u]Cody[/name_u] would work. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a thought.

I think [name_u]Cody[/name_u]/[name_u]Kody[/name_u]/[name_m]Kodie[/name_m] is fine to use for a girl on its own, but otherwise I like Kodia and [name_u]Kody[/name_u] would be a cute nickname. If you like it, use it!

Kodak is a type of printer (or something). There’s also a camera company with a similar name.
Although Kodia is pretty cute. Code-ee-a right? Sounds a lot like [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. Kodia is a bit wordy for me (with Kodak ect. and Code sounding pretty strongly), but if you love it, go for it! She’ll get to be the only one in her class!

Yes, it would be pronounced code-ee-a.

I kinda like it. I know a [name_m]Kodie[/name_m] and she’s lovely. Kodia sounds like a more feminine version, and has not only [name_u]Kody[/name_u]/[name_m]Kodie[/name_m], but [name_f]Dia[/name_f] for cute nicknames!

Kodak is a very well known photo supply company in Australia… [name_f]Every[/name_f] hear of a Kodak moment? Might be something to keep in mind as it’s quite close to Kodia, and you live in Australia.

Like most on this site, I have a more traditional and less inventive style, but I have to say I like the rhythm of Kodia and can’t think of any huge downside to it. I agree it sort of evokes Kodak, there’s also a town in [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] [name_f]Kodiak[/name_f], and furthermore a [name_u]North[/name_u] American bear the [name_f]Kodiak[/name_f] [name_m]Bear[/name_m], but I still don’t really think any of those is absolutely terrible.

If you and your husband love it more than any other name that’s the biggest blessing really. Some kids do go through a phase about being curious about their name and if the history of her name is just that you two made it up, I’d think of a creative way to share that story that emphasizes your love of the sound and the name to make it more meaningful. You could also talk about the history of the name [name_u]Cody[/name_u].

So many “made up” names rely on -lee endings, this borrows on more traditional rhythms like [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] or [name_f]Claudia[/name_f]. I like that. If you’re looking for other, more traditionally grounded names you might consider those two…also [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] comes to mind.

If you’re going for this sound, I think I personally might like the look of Codia better? What do you think? I think the “K” accentuates the modern/inventive feel. Maybe you like that though : D.

[name_f]My[/name_f] question to you is if you use this, and want future kids, what will you name them? Are you OK with one child with an invented name and another with a more familiar one? Kodia and [name_u]Logan[/name_u]? Kodia and [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]? Etc. Or, are you creative enough to invent more names easily? [name_m]Just[/name_m] food for thought.

Oh wow now I really can’t decide! I’m starting to feel really anxious about it now as I only have a few weeks left.

What about Codia instead of Kodia??

The only other names we have agreed on is [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] ([name_f]Bella[/name_f]) or [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] which are completely down the traditional path.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] we go original or traditional?!?

Go traditional. I just think of cameras and bears when I hear ‘kodia’. I’d also suggest:

[name_f]Acadia[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_f]Leocadia[/name_f]
