I’m hoping you can help us. I’m currently pregnant with our first child and we’ve been struggling to come up with female names to go with our surname of [name]Shelton[/name]. We like the idea of “[name]Rose[/name]” as a middle name, just because it’s a meaningful name for both of us, but we need a first name that would fit with that as well…
At first I didn’t think any of your names had much in common ([name]Ashley[/name] was popular in my generation, as was [name]Meredith[/name], and [name]Josephine[/name] is coming up fast now), but the sounds are actually very similar. They are all graceful names with soft sounds. Here are some others that might fit:
From your list, I adore [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Rose[/name]. Here are a few ideas:
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
Therea [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Georgiana[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]ALice[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Phillipa[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
Out of your list, I like [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Rose[/name] the best. I went to school with two girls with you last name. Their names were [name]Chrissy[/name] and [name]Anna[/name] (on-uh) [name]Beth[/name].
Congratulations and I hope that we can help you find the perfect name for your daughter. I really like [name]Meredith[/name] [name]Rose[/name] from your list.
I love [name]Meredith[/name] [name]Rose[/name] and [name]Ashley[/name] [name]Rose[/name], how about [name]Cassandra[/name] [name]Rose[/name] or [name]Jessica[/name] [name]Rose[/name]?
Thank you all so much for replying! It’s nice to know we’re not completely alone when it comes to this minefield
It seems the favourites from my original list are [name]Meredith[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] (which were my favourites too, it has to be said )
We also like the names -
[name]Florence[/name] - Classic, my favourite… But our PM has a daughter called [name]Florence[/name] [name]Rose[/name]…
[name]Vivienne[/name] - hard to spell?
[name]Juliet[/name] - although the tragedy element from [name]Romeo[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name]…
[name]Summer[/name] - but not sure about alliteration
I adore the name [name]Ashley[/name], though I will admit that it is my own name, so I may be a little bit biased. I actually know someone named [name]Ashley[/name] [name]Rose[/name] S. I think it is a beautiful name.
[name]Josephine[/name] is one of the lesser used classics. It is a lovely name and it sounds wonderful with [name]Rose[/name] and your last name. It also boasts the super cute nickname, [name]Josie[/name].
[name]Meredith[/name] is darling! I am not quite sure if I like [name]Ashley[/name] or [name]Meredith[/name] better. It is beautiful, spunky, and overall a great name.
I think [name]Amanda[/name] [name]Rose[/name] [name]Shelton[/name] would be nice
I love [name]Meredith[/name] and the suggestion [name]Merida[/name] too… Although with both, I have slight concerns about pop culture references now - [name]Meredith[/name] - [name]Grey[/name]'s Anatomy
[name]Merida[/name] - [name]Princess[/name] [name]Merida[/name] from Brave (although neither are negative connotations in my mind)
I’ve always held a soft spot for the name [name]Ashley[/name], I must admit. For some reason I’ve always like unisex names - [name]Cameron[/name], [name]Drew[/name], [name]Ashley[/name], [name]Jamie[/name], [name]Sam[/name] etc…
I think I’ve narrowed it to [name]Meredith[/name]/[name]Merida[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name], but yes, [name]Amanda[/name] is lovely too…
[name]Florence[/name] - Classic, my favourite… This makes a good middle eg [name]Meredith[/name] [name]Florence[/name] or you could adapt to [name]Flora[/name] too to make it easier to say eg [name]Meredith[/name] [name]Flora[/name] [name]Shelton[/name].
[name]Vivienne[/name] - hard to spell? No, not hard to spell at all and it is a fabulous name, a great choice, combo [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Rose[/name].
[name]Juliet[/name] - although the tragedy element from [name]Romeo[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name]… I think that [name]Julia[/name] [name]Shelton[/name] has better flow than [name]Juliet[/name] as much as I love [name]Juliet[/name] I don’t think it is the best fit. [name]Julia[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is super pretty!
[name]Summer[/name] - but not sure about alliteration I think this is okay as a middle name but your other choices are nicer.
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Summer[/name] gives a modern edge to a classical name and [name]Meredith[/name] [name]Summer[/name] is very pretty so either work well and if you want [name]Rose[/name] in the mix just add her to the end of the combo.
Ooh, I like whirligig’s suggestion of [name]Merida[/name]! (even though I voted for [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Rose[/name] earlier which I still think is very pretty)
[name]Merida[/name] [name]Florence[/name] or [name]Florence[/name] [name]Merida[/name] is lovely.
So is [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Rose[/name].
I also prefer [name]Julia[/name] to [name]Juliet[/name] with your surname, and I think [name]Julia[/name] [name]Rose[/name] or [name]Julia[/name] [name]Florence[/name] are great combinations.
And I agree with rollo that these other names are nicer than [name]Summer[/name], but that’s jut my opinion!
You have some great selections to work with though - good luck!
From your list, I’d go with [name]Meredith[/name] [name]Rose[/name] for sure. [name]Ashley[/name] [name]Rose[/name] feels dated and less imaginative than your other options. [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is nice but I’m not sure how I feel about the repetition of the “ose” sound.
