I love the boys’ name [name]Deveraux[/name], because of its rhythm and nameberry’s comment on it;
“swashbuckling name worthy of a hero in a romance novel”.
I also like that it means “riverbank”. I would like to find some girl names that have the same feel; a name worthy of a heroine in a novel, but not particularly frilly. The only name that I thought of was [name]Margot[/name], but I like the three syllable rhythm of [name]Deveraux[/name] more. I know this isn’t the usual request, so I appreciate any responses!
Here are some girl names that feel similar to [name]Deveraux[/name] (which I love btw) to me and which I think are “worthy of a heroine in a novel, but not particularly frilly” – although, I must warn you, I have a faulty frilly filter. I love everything frilly!
I think [name]Devereaux[/name] would work on a girl! Am I odd? [name]Margot[/name]/[name]Margo[/name]/[name]Margaux[/name] came to mind too, but I get they’re not three syllables. What about Margaree, last syllable rhyming with ray?
What about also:
Daveney
[name]Delaney[/name]
[name]Doveva[/name]
I like Mermuse’s suggestions of [name]Adeline[/name], [name]Briony[/name] and [name]Eloise[/name] for Devereux’s sister. Here are some others that may appeal to you.
Hello,
I have a wonderful friend whose name is DeVeau. Though it is definitely not a common name, it has the same feel as [name]Devereaux[/name], and I have always thought it was beautiful. My daughter’s name is [name]Delia[/name], another which isn’t heard very often, not even here on Nameberry. We pronounce it Deh-lee-uh, not [name]Dee[/name]-lee-uh, since we live in [name]Italy[/name], and it is sweet and unique but easy at the same time. [name]Hope[/name] those help!
