Girls names ending in Nys and Lys?

So the creepy person that I am, I was looking at hospital birth announcements some random hospital posts online to see what names people were using. I noticed a trend where a lot of parents were naming their girls names ending in “nys” or “lys”. I’ve never heard this before and I was wondering if it’s something that’s trending or that you’ve seen before?

Some examples…

From what I’ve noticed, girl’s names ending in -ys or -is seem to be popular/trendy among the Puerto Rican community. [name_f]Alanis[/name_f], Alanys, Nayelis, Yarielis and Karelys can all be found in Puerto [name_m]Rico[/name_m]'s top 50 for 2010.

I’d assume the last name is a different spelling of Nayelis, since the letter H is usually silent in Spanish.

Hmm, nope. I don’t spend much (any) time around little kids, but the only names matching that criteria that I’m familiar with are [name_f]Alys[/name_f], [name_f]Glenys[/name_f], [name_f]Mailys[/name_f], and [name_f]Lys[/name_f] by itself. That seems like an odd trend, although the ‘y’ in the middle trend has been going on for a while. [name_f]Annalise[/name_f] is also becoming rather popular, so maybe it’s a blending of both trends. Maybe Phylys will become a new trendy name soon. That I would like to see.

I have Eirlys on my list, which is a Welsh name meaning ‘snowdrop’. It is pronounced (iyr-liss).
