We’re so set on a boys name [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m], the only thing I have contemplating toying around with is switching [name_m]Wild[/name_m], as our last name is two syllables and ends in -en. But that’s simple semantics.
Girls on the other hand! Ughhh… The things I love about [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] are so hard to replicate and settle on. We aren’t set on having our first for a few years, but my girls choices are always so airy fairy and it drives me nuts!
The things I love about [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] are:
- Honours tons of J named guys in our family including my SO.
- Has history in my country of origin (Germany.)
- It has a long history yet feels modern.
- It’s a good length/easy to spell.
- Not overly popular or weird.
- Also has a place in Southern Literature, [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] was one of the characters in Gone with the Wind, which appeals to my partner’s childhood in the south.
I can’t seem to find that in a girls name. I think I just want to achieve too much in a girls name maybe?
[name_f]Annora[/name_f] - I love this and the meaning. [name_m]Just[/name_m] don’t know if it’s not a “good” enough way of honouring my grandmother?
[name_f]Lora[/name_f]/[name_f]Laura[/name_f]: My grandmother’s middle name was [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] and I want to honour her with [name_f]Lora[/name_f]/[name_f]Laura[/name_f]. The problem is most names don’t flow nicely with it and I find [name_f]Laura[/name_f] on it’s own too predictable.
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]: It was a name we contemplated as a first middle name because [name_m]New[/name_m] Orleans has special significance to us, but if it’s a 2nd middle it jars with SO’s last name [name_m]Olsen[/name_m].
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]: Doesn’t feel particularly southern to me, but it is Italian/Spanish and I have always really liked the Vampire Diaries character (which that’s set in the south, so I guess?) SO really likes this name though more than [name_f]Marielle[/name_f]/[name_f]Mariella[/name_f]. Thought about [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Camille[/name_f].
[name_f]Mariella[/name_f]/[name_f]Marielle[/name_f]: I love this name, but I always feel weird about committing to it. Almost like it’s too old. Similar thing with just [name_f]Laura[/name_f], [name_f]Kate[/name_f] or just [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. Not sure why, probably because in Australia, those names are very underused.
[name_f]Viviana[/name_f]: [name_u]Love[/name_u] the nicknames with this one, love how flowing and romantic it is, but have gotten mostly bad reactions to it. Doesn’t feel southern particularly either, I know [name_f]Viviane[/name_f] used to be common in the South.
Sorry, I know I complain about it a lot, just don’t feel like I get anywhere really!
