Girls Names That Make You Think of Winter? :-)

My mind works in odd ways, but I like to classify names by what season they make me think of (ie; [name_f]Florence[/name_f] makes me think of flowers blossoming in the spring, but [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] makes me think of running through a meadow with a summery breeze blowing on you.), and right now, I’m looking towards my winter girls :slight_smile: For me, winter names are ones like;

[name_f]Arianwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Philippa[/name_f]
[name_f]Geneva[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eugenia[/name_f]
[name_f]Euphemia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Bronwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f]

etc, etc, etc.

These names make me think of ice skating, snow falling, sipping hot chocolate, decorating a [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] tree, and wrapping [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] presents.

Which names make you think of those things?

*I have posted this question on a few different forums to see what answers come back, I’m very intrigued by this.

[name_f]Nora[/name_f]/[name_f]Norah[/name_f] gives me the impression of curling up by a fireplace with a mug of hot chocolate for some reason. Also, I think of snow when I think of [name_f]Blythe[/name_f].

[name_f]Paloma[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f]

Another name which makes me think of winter is [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]!! You should consider adding this name. The name literally means ‘ice ruler’ she’s so wickedly glamorous and intriguing.

My thoughts on your names…
[name_f]Arianwen[/name_f] - I like this name she’s pretty and reminds me of [name_m]Wales[/name_m] and the beautiful Mount. Snowdon. It’s a Welsh classic that does feel very christmassy and looks lovely. I also like [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] which is similar.

[name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f] - Another Welsh classic. I think Welsh classics automatically feel very winter inspired. Conjuring up images of [name_u]Christmas[/name_u], ice-skating, snow, hot chocolate, and wrapping [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] presents. It’s just very sweet. I love the potential nickname [name_f]Ceri[/name_f] for [name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f]. It’s very sweet. I prefer it too [name_f]Arianwen[/name_f].

[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] - For me this name doesn’t feel very winter inspired. [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] is actually the total opposite for me. [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] feels very southern belle. Reminds me of beautiful ranch in the middle of rural Southern states of [name_u]America[/name_u], bright sunshine, and horse riding. [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] feels like she should belong to a blonde girl whose very southern - a southern belle - it’s doesn’t conjure up that image.

[name_f]Philippa[/name_f] - I’ve never liked this name. For me it’s unattractive. I do like the nickname [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] though. Also she doesn’t really conjure up any images for me. I don’t understand how this name makes you think of winter. I don’t really think of anything to be perfectly honest.

[name_f]Geneva[/name_f] - [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] choice. [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] has a great sound, feels really soft but still feels spirited. She’s sweet and effortless. Furthermore [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] touches the place name trend but in a quiet way which makes it more appealing. This name does feel very wintry and dramatic. It’s lovely and I love the [name_f]Evie[/name_f] nickname.

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] - This name again feel very wintry and dramatic. Similarly like with [name_f]Geneva[/name_f]. For me [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] aren’t a friendly winter they don’t conjure up images of [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] trees and presents under the tree. Instead [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] remind me of frozen landscapes, elegant ice skaters, log fires, and crisp winter air.

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - For me [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is a gorgeous choice but she doesn’t conjure up images of winter. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] feels more autumnal, she doesn’t feel wintry. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is a lovely name!

[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] - A lovely name but to be honest [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] feels fresh and spring like. [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is a great name, I adore the [name_m]French[/name_m] vibe of this choice and how the name feels very chic. But she feels open, spirited and fresh like a new beginning thus conjuring images of [name_f]Spring[/name_f]. She has a beat in her step caused by the [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] nickname.

[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] - I understand why this name conjures images of winter but due to her name meaning ‘first rose’ I automatically think of spring time. The flowers blooming and opening. Your escaping harshness of winter and the cold bite of the air and welcoming a fresher times ahead full of new beginnings and nature blooming.

[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] - [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name but I really don’t believe that this name is seasonally attached to any form of weather or season. For me [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] conjures up images of mythology, Greece and the sea but not seasons. So I don’t see the wintry appeal.

[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] - Again I really don’t find this name very wintry. For me [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] feels fresh and golden. She reminds me of bright sunshine - a burning sun - heat, ice cream, warm beaches, and a bright blue ocean. [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] feels exotic like she’s bathed in permanent sun, always exposed to heat. She’s the opposite of wintry in my mind especially as her meaning is ‘golden’.

[name_f]Eugenia[/name_f] - Not keen on this name and really don’t see the seasonal reference!! Apologises.

[name_f]Euphemia[/name_f] - This name features in my family history. I do like this name everyone referred to [name_f]Euphemia[/name_f] as ‘[name_f]Effie[/name_f]’ which is an adorable nickname. I don’t see the seasonal references to winter with this combination. [name_m]Just[/name_m] because she’s very elegant, soft (like snow) but has an icy frost like exterior. She feels very grand, like you’d find her set in a novel in a Victorian winter landscape.

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] - Yes she does feel wintry. She’s a strong name, a strong classic which works for any child with her range of nicknames from [name_f]Elle[/name_f] to [name_f]Lena[/name_f]. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is such a pretty choice. One of my favourites! She does feel wintry she reminds me of jack frost, winter landscapes and burning log fires. She’s lovely.

[name_f]Bronwen[/name_f] - Similarly with the other Welsh classics mentioned she does feel wintry!!

[name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] - I hate lucy names but yes [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] does feel like a little christmas cherub name.

[name_f]Agnes[/name_f] - Again not keen and don’t understand the winter references you attach to this name.

Other suggestions:
[name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Holly[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]

: )

I think it all depends on the person’s mindset  To me, anything with a ‘bel/belle’ ending is wintry to me.

[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] reminds me of a Victorian little girl running to the window to watch snowflakes falling, then rushing to get her coat on and run outside to catch the falling flakes on her tongue.

[name_f]Philippa[/name_f] makes me think of dancers getting ready to perform in the Nutcracker. [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] reminds me of someone who might portray [name_f]Clara[/name_f] in the play, so she’d be working tirelessly to perfect her dance routines.

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is the feminization of [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], who was a very important biblical character in regards to [name_u]Christmas[/name_u], as he was [name_m]Jesus[/name_m]’ father. [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] both conjure up ideas of going to church on [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] for mass, then retiring home for hot chocolate while sitting beside a fireplace, anxiously awaiting to open the [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] presents under the tree.

[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] reminds me of a dark haired little girl standing by the [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] tree while her dad helps her put on her winter coat, hat, scarf and mittens, then the two of them running outside to build a snowman together.

[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is similar to [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] for me, figure skaters, ballerinas, and, considering my favourite [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] movie growing up was the Nutcracker (the [name_f]Barbie[/name_f] edition, but it still counts), ballerinas are something I link to winter.

[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] does mean gold/golden, but, that actually made me think of the line from the song, The 12 Days of [name_u]Christmas[/name_u], ‘5 golden rings’.

[name_f]Agnes[/name_f] is similar to [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] for me. I picture a sweet little girl, scurrying around outside, trying to catch the falling snowflakes on her tongue.

[name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] is really growing on me, I like it  [name_f]Blythe[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] & [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] are wonderful as well  ([name_f]Clementine[/name_f] is sadly a forever vetoed name for me).

[name_u]Winter[/name_u], obviously.

[name_f]Geneva[/name_f] with its alpine charm (and nickname [name_f]Neva[/name_f]).

[name_u]Christmas[/name_u]. [name_f]Carol[/name_f]. [name_u]Yule[/name_u]. [name_f]Holiday[/name_f]. [name_u]Noel[/name_u]. [name_f]Holly[/name_f].

[name_u]November[/name_u]. [name_u]December[/name_u]. [name_u]January[/name_u]. [name_u]March[/name_u].

[name_m]Zebulon[/name_m]. [name_f]Zephirine[/name_f]. [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]. [name_f]Zelda[/name_f]. [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f].

[name_m]Baron[/name_m]. [name_m]Laird[/name_m]. [name_f]Garland[/name_f].

[name_u]Tristan[/name_u]. [name_f]Thora[/name_f]. [name_f]Thomasina[/name_f]. [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f]. [name_m]Tarquin[/name_m].

I never thought of [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f] or [name_f]Thomasina[/name_f]/[name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] I quite like [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f] though!

A lot of Scandinavian or Germanic names fit the bill for me, as well as some others:
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Hilde[/name_f]
[name_f]Johanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] (preferably as a NN, but [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] feels more wintery to me than any of the given names it’s associated with)
[name_f]Lenore[/name_f]/ [name_f]Lenora[/name_f]/ [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] (I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] but worry about pronunciation)
[name_f]Amandine[/name_f]
[name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
