[name_m]Hi[/name_m] All,
My partner and I have been toying with names for our arrival in [name_u]June[/name_u] & feel like we’re really going round in circles. Rather than asking family I thought it would be great to reach out to the group here for some honest ideas! My partners surname is Aspromonte which is Italian and I am Irish, so we are looking for a beautiful short and punchy name to go with this. The ideas so far are:
[name_f]Fia[/name_f] Aspromonte ([name_f]Fia[/name_f] is both Irish & Italian. In Italian it means flickering flame, and I have red hair so there is a 50% chance she may too!)
[name_f]Evie[/name_f] Aspromonte (I think has the best ring to it, but there are alot of [name_f]Evie[/name_f]'s out there at the moment)
[name_u]Eden[/name_u] Aspromonte (I love, but my partner is not sold on)
[name_f]Myah[/name_f] Aspromonte (a name my sisters love, I’m still on the fence)
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f] Aspromonte (a new addition to the list, still thinking about it)
Any thoughts on the above, or other ideas in general of beautiful names to add to this list would be so greatly appreciated. At 34 weeks I think my baby brain fog is disabling my decision making skills!
From then, we move to a middle name - a whole other kettle of fish!
Thankyou SO much for anyone who responds, your thoughts will be greatly appreciated xx
Thanks so much - it was both of our favourites until my [name_f]MIL[/name_f] pointed out that it sounded like F-E-A-R with an Australian accent, which is where we live :-?
My last name starts with Asp… too!
I don’t think [name_f]Fia[/name_f] being pronounced “fear” will be a big issue. But i think it is best to give her the name you love and have a nickname plan if there is a problem. Like maybe use [name_f]Fina[/name_f] or [name_f]Fima[/name_f] for a nickname if a problem comes up? Or have her use her middle name too like [name_f]Fia[/name_f]-[name_f]Mae[/name_f] for example.
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]/[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] - can be nicknamed [name_f]Fia[/name_f] too
[name_f]Leona[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Fia[/name_f] is super pretty and I think it works really well with Aspromonte. I live in Australia too but I don’t think the pronunciation will be a problem.
Other short names I think might work, if you’re open to suggestions, are [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] (pronounced [name_u]Kay[/name_u]-a not K-eye-a) or [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] which is both Irish and similar to [name_f]Evie[/name_f]. [name_f]Lux[/name_f] is another one I think goes well with the surname.
I’m Australian too, and I don’t think the pronunciation of [name_f]Fia[/name_f] is a problem. I can here the similarity, but [name_f]Sia[/name_f], [name_f]Nia[/name_f], [name_f]Pia[/name_f], [name_f]Ria[/name_f], [name_f]Leah[/name_f] could all have similar problems and they work fine.
I wouldn’t call an Australian child [name_m]Dax[/name_m] or [name_f]Fanny[/name_f], but plenty of kids are named [name_f]Lu[/name_f] / [name_u]Lou[/name_u] without getting teased.
Some other thoughts for long forms (if you decide you want one):
[name_f]Fianna[/name_f] (I realise it’s not totally genuine as an Irish name, but I know an Australian child with this name and it works fine)
[name_f]Finola[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiorella[/name_f]
Fidelma
[name_f]Fidela[/name_f]
They don’t necessarily work as both Italian and Irish names, but I think they’re all easy to say and familiar-sounding in Italian, Gaelic and English, and would be easy enough to wear in Aus.
I like the idea of [name_f]Fiamma[/name_f] (mentioned above), too.
