Lately I’ve been falling for almost every name off the SSA lists from the 1890s (some I just can’t love, like [name_f]Fannie[/name_f] or [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]), and that includes some of the big clunkers that you’d never expect on a birth certificate after 1929.
I imagine I’m likely alone in admitting that I love some of these names (and to be honest, I’m not even sure I WANT to admit that I like/love some…), but, are there any girls names you probably shouldn’t love, but do? I don’t seem to be as afraid to confess to liking the boys names that I like, but for some reason, the girls names seem to make me nervous, haha (which is odd, as some of them have very accessible, modern nicknames).
I have Doris and Bessie on my list, and, I do love Millicent and Myrtle. My worst is Mildred though - the only connection I have is Worst Witch, and I always used to beg and plead with my mum to watch it with me - it just makes me a bit nervous to confess about liking it, because it’s on the ‘50+ Names To Make Your Teenager Hate You’ list that was posted on the NB blog not long ago, haha.
[name_m]Alas[/name_m], I would never do that to a child because kids are cruel :(. I would, however, use the nickname [name_f]Prue[/name_f] on its own; it’s in my top 10.
