Has anyone seen the new HBO series ‘Girls’? I just viewed the [name]Pilot[/name] episode & here are the names of the 4 main characters:

  • [name]Hannah[/name]
  • [name]Marnie[/name]
  • [name]Jessa[/name]
  • Shoshanna

They are 24-year-old young ladies living in New [name]York[/name] City. I have to say, I was surprised to hear the name [name]Marnie[/name]! I never hear it…However, it seems to fit the character very well and I found myself really liking it!
[name]Do[/name] you think [name]Marnie[/name] is a nickname/shortened version of a longer name? If so, what do think it might be/could be short for?

I love the name [name]Marnie[/name] and I think of the [name]Alfred[/name] [name]Hitchcock[/name] movie called [name]Marnie[/name] starring Tippi Hedron and the fashion line [name]Marni[/name]. I always thought it was a bit nicknamey sounding and wondered if [name]Marlene[/name] / [name]Marlena[/name] could be the longform…[name]Marla[/name] or [name]Marley[/name] would be more logical, but I think [name]Marnie[/name] could work. Maybe [name]Marion[/name] or [name]Maureen[/name] could be longforms? I don’t know.

I think out of the group I like [name]Marnie[/name] best.

I like [name]Marnie[/name] on it’s own. I first heard it in Repo! The Genetic [name]Opera[/name]. I think it’s very cute and pretty.
