[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] is a definite for me if my fiancé and I have a girl. I could gush about why I love it all day, but I won’t go on.
While that one name is settled, I have a difficulty coming up with another girl name (planning for two kids) that I like even half as much. My admittedly picky criteria-
Cannot end in an -ia, -ea, -ena, or -ina. I think something like “[name_f]Leah[/name_f] and [name_f]Mina[/name_f]” are too close for comfort for me.
Has to sound feminine even next to [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]. This is where I run into a million issues, as this name is pretty frilly. I tend to think that unisex names don’t work very well with this, unfortunately.
Has to be easy to say. I have a speech complication, and [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] very easily rolls of my tongue. Names like [name_f]Thea[/name_f] an [name_f]Lila[/name_f], while pretty, are unusable (double L’s are a nightmare).
My other criteria are no color names, not single syllable, and nothing too terribly popular (I’d prefer under 200 minimum). My style tends to err more modern, and my fiancé definitely has a preference fo modern.
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] is beautiful - a little dark and mysterious, but also floral and upbeat. Below are some pairing suggestions
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lenore[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] and [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] and [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] is so lovely. [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] &
[name_f]Adriana[/name_f] (too many similar sounds?)
[name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] (love this for you!)
[name_f]Angeline[/name_f]/[name_f]Angelique[/name_f] (I know a lovely girl named [name_f]Angelique[/name_f])
[name_f]Anika[/name_f]
[name_f]April[/name_f] (love this for you!)
[name_f]Aviana[/name_f]
[name_f]Bianca[/name_f] (also love this one with [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f])
[name_f]Elisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] (too similar sounds to [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]?)
[name_f]Jada[/name_f]
[name_f]Jillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Melody[/name_f]
[name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] (too similar sounds to [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]?)
[name_u]Sierra[/name_u]
All of these are below the top 200 in the USA, I believe.
Gosh, [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] is such a beautiful name. My first thought was [name_u]Carmen[/name_u]! Nameberry lists it as unisex, but I’ve always thought it to be the ultimate feminine name: Mysterious, rich, strong, and literary. Imagining [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] and [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] as siblings makes me swoon a little bit! Other ideas: [name_f]Paloma[/name_f]: This name has only gotten attention recently, and I like it with [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] just as much as I do [name_u]Carmen[/name_u]. It means dove, is frilly without being cutesy, and sounds absolutely lovely next to [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]. [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] and [name_f]Paloma[/name_f]. [name_f]Opal[/name_f]- This is a little more spare than [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], but still ultra-feminine and refined. The caveat: Is it a color name? I’ve always associated it with the gem, but is it too closely associated with a color? [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
From previous suggesters: [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]- Another one I love for you. I like the idea of a flower name and a jewel name together, and they are compatible in terms of popularity and sound, without being at all matchy. [name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this was helpful!
[name_f]Leona[/name_f] - What was actually suggested was [name_f]Leonore[/name_f], but I think [name_f]Leona[/name_f] is more my style. [name_f]Macy[/name_f] - [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] was suggested, but I prefer [name_f]Macy[/name_f]. Too associated with the store? [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] - I prefer just [name_f]Eva[/name_f], but I worry about popularity. [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] - With the popularity of [name_f]Cora[/name_f]/[name_f]Nora[/name_f], I’m concerned. [name_u]Eden[/name_u] - I think this is so pretty, but can’t shake the religious connotation, and we’re not terribly religious. [name_f]Maren[/name_f] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] this, but I heard the comparison to [name_f]Karen[/name_f] and now it’s so hard to shake. Same with [name_f]Meryl[/name_f]/[name_f]Sheryl[/name_f]. [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] - This is a definite middle name contender. [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] / [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] - I love these, but I’m concerned about wearability through life. [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] is more of a possibility for use. [name_f]Freya[/name_f] - This one is growing on me, but any ‘Fr-’ name gives me [name_u]Fran[/name_u] Drescher syndrome, where it seems harsh and nasal, even though it’s not. [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is a maybe though, as it’s really a name I keep going back to. [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] - Middle name contender. [name_f]Briar[/name_f] - [name_f]Briony[/name_f] made me think of this, though it sounds odd with the surname and it’s kind of popular (I think). [name_f]Anika[/name_f] / [name_f]Annika[/name_f] - I really like this name, but I’m unsure what spelling/pronunciation I prefer (either AW-nik-uh or [name_f]ANN[/name_f]-ik-uh). [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] - I have a soft spot for this name, but I worry about it sounding too traditional if that makes sense? [name_f]Verona[/name_f] - I’ve love love LOVED this name forever, thank you for rreminding me of it.
If it helps, for a boy we’re thinking [name_m]Arrow[/name_m] or [name_m]Rocco[/name_m]. In our talks about girls, [name_f]Marlowe[/name_f] and [name_u]Bristol[/name_u] (too [name_u]Palin[/name_u]-y?) have come up.
I think a couple of these might have mean suggested already but here goes:
Dahlia and Francesca
Dahlia and Matilda
Dahlia and Juliet
Dahlia and Twila/Twyla
Dahlia and Rosalind
Dahlia and Winona
Dahlia and Viveca
Dahlia and Glenda

I did my best to avoid names that were very L heavy and tried to avoid the ending letters you asked to have omitted.
