[name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer girly, more feminine names or less girly? [name_f]My[/name_f] husband is very into feminine names and I’m less so.
His picks are [name_f]Viviana[/name_f] and [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f].
Mine are raven and [name_u]Jade[/name_u].
I like both! It’s also always nice to have a longer name that the child can choose nicknames from- for example, seraphina might be her legal name but she might like finn or fia as a nickname!
some ideas…
I like a mix of both to be honest! I love my short snappy names like [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] and [name_f]Cherith[/name_f] but also the frillier [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]!
I’d suggest [name_f]Ravenna[/name_f] nn [name_u]Raven[/name_u]
I love really girly and feminine names. Like [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], or [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]. But I also don’t have a problem with names that are more androgynous or whatever.
Both. Frilly fru-fru names like [name_f]Araminta[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabelline[/name_f] are fantastically beautiful, but I’m equally enthralled with the heavy, no-nonsense style along the lines of [name_f]Thora[/name_f] and [name_f]Brunhilde[/name_f].
Might I suggest [name_u]Ember[/name_u] and [name_u]Rue[/name_u]? I think it fits with [name_u]Raven[/name_u] and [name_u]Jade[/name_u]. [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and Lionella might work for your husband’s style. Maybe [name_f]Ravenna[/name_f] and Morgana/Morrigan as an in-between?
I do like feminine names but also shorter names. I definitely prefer names that aren’t a ton of syllables. So I prefer [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] over [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] but I consider both to be a little frilly. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] also feels very feminine to me but is only 2 syllables.
Lots of long girly names can have shorter less frilly nicknames that you might like. Like [name_f]Viv[/name_f] for [name_f]Viviana[/name_f] or [name_f]Sera[/name_f] for [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f].
Possible compromises could be choosing a girly name that doesn’t end in A. So, [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] instead of [name_f]Viviana[/name_f]. [name_u]Or[/name_u] names like [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Lauren[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_f]Adaline[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f].
[name_u]Or[/name_u] shorter names that do end in A like [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_u]Aria[/name_u], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_f]Bella[/name_f].
[name_u]Or[/name_u] pairing a less frilly first name with a more frilly middle name. Like [name_u]Jade[/name_u] [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]. This would let your husband use her whole name from time to time which sounds even frillier in my opinion!
I think I’m somewhere in between? I like feminine names for sure but not so much FRILLY? Some of my favorites are [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], Eva/Evangeline, [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Ayla[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_u]Tali[/name_u], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], etc.
Maybe something spunky and feminine (like [name_f]Kaia[/name_f], [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], [name_u]Vivien[/name_u], or Dagny/Daphne might appeal? I like that [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] especially has the spunk of [name_u]Raven[/name_u] or [name_u]Jade[/name_u], but a bit of the femininity of [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] or [name_f]Viviana[/name_f].
Same here. I feel like I like the idea of the frilly ones but when I really think about it, I go back to the other ones and can’t see my own kids being super girly names.
I feel like [name_u]Jade[/name_u] is a happy medium! [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] may work as well if you could get on board with [name_f]Sera[/name_f]. If you’re interested in meeting in the middle, maybe try these:
I like girly names that aren’t overly frilly. To me [name_u]Jade[/name_u] would fit that, it feels feminine without being overly fanciful. Other names that i would think fit this are [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f], [name_f]Bridget[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. Some of them may be more “cutesy” then some people like though
I like both! However I tend to like often the simple and shorter names as first names and more girly and longer names as middle names.
Since you like Raven and Jade, I thought you might like:
Eden
Nova
Vera
Wren.
As someone already mentioned above maybe you would find a pretty nicely flowing name together with your husband by combining your feminine and less feminine favorites?
Or if that doesn’t feel like a good compromise maybe keeping the name shorter and more simple by having an ‘a’ ending which to me makes the name feminine but not as girly as ‘na’ which seems to be sth your husband likes (based on 2 names😁) . For example I find Liliana more girly than Lilia. Choosing the form of the name ending with ‘n’, like Vivian instead of Viviana or with ‘e’ like Seraphine instead of Seraphina reduces the frillyness as well on my opinion.
Some short names sounding feminine to me without being frilly ending with a:
Freya
Zara
Saga
Gaia
Alva
Alma
And some longer ones that are still not as feminine as your husband’s favorites but still not frilly (a few even with ‘na’ ending) :
Elina
Evelina
Leona
Athena
Elvira
Agatha
Althea
