Girly name as a surname... for a boy?

I’ve got an odd question , thought I’d put it here instead of the boys section as this one’s seen a bit more. I have Scottish ancestry, and there are a few Scottish surnames in the family that I’d consider using: [name]Cameron[/name], [name]Gordon[/name] & [name]Rose[/name]. Now, for me, [name]Rose[/name] is alright on a girl but what I wast to know is this: [name]How[/name] weird would it be in the middle for a boy? I mean second middle, not first. [name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Harvey[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is what he came up with last night and while I really like it, wonder if something like this is going a bit too far.

What do you think, doable or not? Am I insane for even thinking it is? or is it really as charming a pairing as I think it is?

If it is, what do you think of our other choices:
[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Milo[/name]/[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Milo[/name] [name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]August[/name] [name]John[/name]
[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Wilder[/name] [name]John[/name]
[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Rowan[/name] [name]John[/name]
[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Taliesin[/name] [name]John[/name] (would encompass two favored “artists” for us).

And, as always, Thanks!

While [name]Cameron[/name] and [name]Gordon[/name] would definitely work, [name]Rose[/name] definitely would not. In addition to being the most popular girls’ middle name, it’s also perhaps the most feminine name known to man. [name]Even[/name] if [name]Rose[/name] were the baby’s 5th, 6th, or even 7th middle name, it’s still a feminine name, a girls’ name, and the name of a flower. Definitely not for a little boy!

And no, you’re not insane for considering it; you’re just trying to come up with the perfect name for your baby. On the bright side, [name]Simon[/name]'s middle name is [name]Ambrose[/name], so you’ve found a way to use the name in an indirect (and masculine) way!

[name]Maxfield[/name] is incredilble, though, it is wonderful that you’re considering it. [name]Maxfield[/name] is so handsome, sophisticated, unique, stylish, and wordly.

[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Milo[/name]/[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Milo[/name] [name]Jasper[/name]: Awesome! [name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Miles[/name] is great, too!

[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]August[/name] [name]John[/name]; INCREDIBLE !

[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Wilder[/name] [name]John[/name]: [name]EVEN[/name] MORE INCREDIBLE!

[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Rowan[/name] [name]John[/name]: [name]Lovely[/name], but it didn’t excite me enough to type in all capitals.

[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Taliesin[/name] [name]John[/name]: Very, very cool. (I’ve been to his home, [name]Taliesin[/name] [name]West[/name], in [name]Arizona[/name], by the way.)

These [name]Maxfield[/name] names are incredible, and I’m rooting for [name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Wilder[/name] [name]John[/name] and [name]Maxfield[/name] [name]August[/name] [name]John[/name].

Some more Scottish [name]Maxfield[/name] combos:

[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Alistair[/name] [name]John[/name]
[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Rupert[/name] [name]Alistair[/name]
Mafield [name]Alistair[/name] [name]Colin[/name]
[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Campbell[/name] [name]John[/name]
[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Rupert[/name] [name]Sinclair[/name]
[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]August[/name] [name]Campbell[/name]
[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Harvey[/name] [name]Sinclair[/name]
[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Harvey[/name] [name]Alistair[/name]
[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Harvey[/name] [name]Colin[/name]
[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Sinclair[/name]
[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Campbell[/name]
[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Hamish[/name] [name]John[/name]

Too funny [name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Hamish[/name] [name]John[/name]! the Mr.'s middles are [name]James[/name] [name]John[/name]! I’m really like [name]Maxfield[/name] [name]August[/name] [name]John[/name] just because I’ve been trying to fit [name]August[/name] in somewhere for my Mom, it’s either that or [name]Francis[/name] for a [name]Frances[/name], but she hated her name very much. Had to spell it for everyone and she absolutely loathed that. sigh Somehow I think she’d think [name]August[/name] on a boy, for her would be aces, she was the sort that turned things around, looked for similarities and decided on non-direct honoring for her kids. [name]August[/name] would make my Mom laugh.

[name]Wilder[/name] [name]John[/name] is staying with [name]Rufus[/name], I like that combo far too much, they are perfect with my lovely [name]Rufus[/name]!

I really like [name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Taliesin[/name] [name]John[/name], I’ve been there too, one of my Uncles (the nutty one, [name]Skip[/name]) lives nearby and I visit a handful of times every time I’m out that way. A plus for me would be his initials: MTM, we could call him Mountain!

I do like [name]Clyde[/name] but can’t get him past him. It’s too “[name]Every[/name] Which [name]Way[/name] but Loose orangutan” to him. [name]Conrad[/name]‘s neat! I’ll have to run that one past him, see wha he thinks. Might be too "Weeds’ for him.

I’ll swipe [name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Alasdair[/name] [name]John[/name] as well (we only like that spelling) and mixing it up a bit, [name]Maxfield[/name] [name]August[/name] [name]Sinclair[/name] too. [name]Sinclair[/name] is a really old family surname on my side that I hadn’t even thought of using until now, sounded too girly to me. But I really dig him right here!

Thanks [name]Jill[/name], you’re amazing!

That’s right! I’d forgotten about [name]Alasdair[/name] for you, and I actually do prefer that spelling. I once babysat for a Scottish family who had [name]Elinor[/name], [name]Alasdair[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], and [name]Genevra[/name]. I’m glad I could help, and I think [name]Sinclair[/name] is awesome!

Anyway, [name]August[/name] [name]Sinclair[/name] and [name]Alasdair[/name] [name]James[/name] are awesome, and I love [name]Sinclair[/name] with [name]Maxfield[/name]. [name]Love[/name] it. [name]How[/name] great that it’s a family name for you, while fulfilling his ancestry, too.

I only thought of [name]Hamish[/name], because it’s my friend’s brother’s name.

I’ve always thought [name]Conrad[/name] was a cool name, first hearing it when I was a little girl. And speaking of Weeds, what about [name]Silas[/name] as one of the combo names? [name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Harvey[/name] [name]Silas[/name] sounds quirky yet classy.

It’s a lot of fun giving you feedback, and although at times I’ve waved a red flag in terms of “Holy #$^@ !, the child will get teased,” I’ve never meant any harm. And even if I’m giving a “thumbs down,” if you could hear me speak, you’d hear a very kind, gentle voice.

[name]Do[/name] you have any more girls’ combos to share?

Anyway, I’m just loving [name]Maxfield[/name] so much, especially with a “[name]Mac[/name]” last name. It’s just stunning, and gives the green light to funkier, more obscure middle names.

I know, [name]Jill[/name] and I’ve never taken offense, really. I’m rather a pro at name teasing though. My kids are more likely to get teased for being tall, skinny and klutzy than for their names but I see what you mean. I’m lucky though, with kids in the neighborhood being [name]Byron[/name], [name]Lazarus[/name], [name]Cormac[/name] and [name]Conor[/name], for boys and [name]Laura[/name] ( yeah, there’a 15 year old [name]Laura[/name] right across the street, she’s [name]Conor[/name]'s big sister!), [name]Georgiana[/name] and [name]Vivien[/name] down the street, I can get away with a bit more than most can. My neighborhood’s a treat for names! I’ve been slowly learning everyone’s name as [name]Josie[/name] & I take our evening walks now that the weather is a bit nicer. Can’t wait to see who’s down the cul-de-sac!

I have a few more girls I may toss out soon. For a taste: [name]Elspeth[/name], [name]Henrietta[/name] & [name]Laetitia[/name]. I just found out my Grandpop had three sisters: [name]Elisabeth[/name]/[name]Elsie[/name], [name]Laetitia[/name]/[name]Lettie[/name] & [name]Elvira[/name]/[name]Vera[/name]. I’m sort of stuck on guys right now, but the girls are getting out of hand, number-wise again, so look for them soon!

I love the names [name]Maxfield[/name] (because of [name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Parrish[/name]), [name]Rufus[/name], [name]Conrad[/name] (wrote a little short story about [name]Conrad[/name] once), [name]Rupert[/name], [name]Harvey[/name], [name]August[/name], and [name]Jasper[/name]. [name]Love[/name] [name]John[/name], [name]James[/name], [name]Miles[/name], and [name]Grey[/name] for middles. Super love [name]Taliesin[/name]. Want to go there so badly. I don’t think I’ve ever been to Wisconsin although I have been to most of our fifty states, even [name]West[/name] [name]Virginia[/name] and [name]Maine[/name] which for a Californian is a bit unusual.
My cousin who has Down’s Syndrome is named [name]John[/name] [name]Maxwell[/name] Farson. I think his name is gorgeous.
Okay, I will make up some names for you just for fun:
[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Grey[/name] [name]Rupert[/name]
[name]Jove[/name] [name]Taliesin[/name] [name]Gregorio[/name]
[name]Rufus[/name] [name]Levushka[/name] [name]George[/name] - Have you ever heard of [name]Levushka[/name]? Amazing! like the “ush” with the “Ruf” in [name]Rufus[/name]. [name]Levushka[/name] is a form of [name]Lev[/name].
[name]Ferdinand[/name] [name]Jasper[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Humbert[/name] [name]August[/name] [name]John[/name] or could be [name]Humbert[/name] [name]Humbert[/name] [name]August[/name] [name]John[/name] - I have a fun story about [name]Humbert[/name] [name]Humbert[/name].
[name]Harvey[/name] [name]August[/name] Junipero - Father Junipero [name]Serra[/name] started many of the missions in [name]Early[/name] [name]California[/name].
[name]Maxfield[/name] [name]Wellington[/name] [name]Finch[/name] - this certainly sounds like a snobby little bird with a puffed-out chest! Very dapper.

I agree with [name]Jill[/name]. No on [name]Rose[/name] for a boy’s name, even in the middle. But I love the Nature name [name]Jasper[/name].
