Can anyone suggest some feminine names with quirky/tomboyish/unusul nickname? My DF was really set on using K names for all our children, but now he might be open to negotiations, so I wanted some fresh ideas to present him with.
Criteria:
The full name needs to be unique. I wouldn’t use a name in the top 300 of the SS list, and would even prefer that it wasn’t in the top 1000. I don’t like “old fashioned” names usually, but don’t want a name that will be dated in ten years.
Bonus points if its Irish, Greek, [name]German[/name], Hawaiian, French or Scandinavian.
Another bonus if it contains ‘v’ somewhere or starts with K.
Examples: [name]Savannah[/name] “Savvy” (would use it in a heartbeat but its wayyy too popular) [name]Vivika[/name] “[name]Vivi[/name]” (I [name]LOVE[/name] this, DF hates practically all names begining with V) [name]Alannah[/name] “[name]Ally[/name]/[name]Ali[/name]” [name]Roxana[/name] “[name]Roxy[/name]” [name]Sorcha[/name] “[name]Sora[/name]” [name]Aurora[/name] “[name]Rory[/name]” (DF doesn’t like any of those…) [name]Natalia[/name] “[name]Nate[/name]” (he loves, I don’t)
Thanks a ton!!!
Oh, our daughter’s name is [name]Kiana[/name] “[name]Kiki[/name]” and last name is very similar to [name]Norris[/name].

I was searching for names using your criteria and an interesting one I came across was the Scandinavian name [name]Vendela[/name]. Very pretty and very uncommon; I had never heard of it before.
I’m just stuck on a nickname-[name]Evie[/name]? [name]Della[/name]? [name]Ellie[/name]?
[name]Kallista[/name] ([name]Kal[/name])
[name]Shoshana[/name] ([name]Shaun[/name])
[name]Maureen/name old fashioned
[name]Eloise[/name] ([name]Louie[/name]) it’s a french version of a german name!
[name]Beatrix[/name] ([name]Trix[/name])
[name]Amalia[/name] ([name]Lia[/name])
[name]Nicola[/name] ([name]Nikki[/name], [name]Nic[/name])
[name]Dinah[/name] ([name]Dean[/name], [name]Nina[/name])
[name]Cressida[/name] (Cece) I couldn’t think of a good nn
[name]Rosalind[/name] ([name]Rosey[/name]) not quirky but cute!
[name]Maeve[/name] ([name]Evie[/name])
[name]Saoirse[/name] ([name]Shay[/name]) sare-sha
I know that I’m horrible at nn’s. But these are just a few of the names that I found.
One of the “hot lists” is called Retro Nicknames for Girls, it might give you some inspiration. I don’t think this meets your criteria at all (LOL) but I think classic [name]Elizabeth[/name] has the best nickname options ever - Elv, [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Tibby[/name], etc.
[name]How[/name] about -
[name]Euphemia[/name] (Greek) - [name]Effie[/name]
[name]Verbena[/name] (a pretty flower) - Bean
[name]Regina[/name] - [name]Queenie[/name]
[name]Nuala[/name] (Irish - pronounced Nu-la) - Nunu (although, this is the name of the hoover in the Tellytubbies)
[name]Clotilde[/name]/[name]Ottilie[/name] - [name]Tilly[/name]
[name]Ophelia[/name] - Oaf
[name]Philomena[/name] - [name]Phil[/name] (perhaps this is taking the tomboyish element too far)
[name]Bohemia[/name]/[name]Boudicca[/name] - [name]Bo[/name]
[name]Dorothy[/name]/[name]Dorothea[/name] - [name]Dottie[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name] - [name]Po[/name]
[name]Araminta[/name] - [name]Minty[/name]
[name]Delilah[/name] - [name]Didi[/name]/[name]Lily[/name]
[name]Odette[/name] - Odd/[name]Ettie[/name]
I hope this helps!
I love my name ([name]Yvette[/name]) but preferred to be known by my nickname [name]Evie[/name]!
I thought it was quite unusual but there appears to be a lot of [name]Evie[/name]'s at my nephews school!!
Its a lovely french name that stands out a bit! x
I went back and read your original post again, and you mentioned French names, so …
[name]Alphonsine[/name] nn [name]Alfie[/name], perhaps?
Have fun deciding!
