Sorry to be brutally honest but [name_f]Lettice[/name_f] is horrible and everyone will only think of lettuce. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Leticia[/name_f]? (leh-tee-see-uh) and [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] for short?
Like I mentioned it’s fairly well-known in the UK so I wouldn’t imagine people would actually think I’d miss-spelled lettuce.
It’s also a character in a well-known children’s story book too.
It’s pronounced leh-TEES and just feels like the name epitome of an English summer (which I’m incredibly nostalgic for right now, damn you snowy [name_f]Canada[/name_f]…) plus there’s the adorable nn [name_f]Lettie[/name_f]. I’m thinking something like [name_f]Lettice[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Lettice[/name_f] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Lettice[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] right now. I think it is pretty but very teasable in this day and age.
So… is [name_f]Lettice[/name_f] too much like lettuce? Some other options I’m considering…
[i]
[name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] on it’s own - unsubstantial to [name_u]Berry[/name_u] taste, I know.[/i] Nope. Perfect. 2) [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] (no to [name_f]Violet[/name_f]/[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]/[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]/[name_f]Letitia[/name_f]), but I don’t fully love [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] anymore. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t use it if you don’t love it but [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] is nice. [name_f]Celestia[/name_f]/[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]/[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]/[name_f]Colette[/name_f] could be other options for full names.
[i]3) A whole different turn and using [name_f]Leta[/name_f] which has similar origins. Unfortunately it sounds exactly like the word litre (‘liter’) in my accent.
Sigh. Maybe none of these are going to work for me! Should I go back to [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] as my summery English name? [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Lettice[/name_f], anyone?[/i] It doesn’t really have the right flow because the endings are both abrupt so a more flowy name sandwiched in between them would help.
[name_f]Lettice[/name_f] just makes me think of lettuce, but I’m not in the UK. I like it as a middle name though. [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] is an adorable nickname.
Thank you for the feedback… pretty much what I was expecting Anyone else?
Maybe we have different ears, and most definitely different accents but neither of them have abrupt endings… [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]'s ending is particularly soft.
Looks like [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] is coming out on top.
I’m still not sold. I can’t get [name_f]Lettice[/name_f] out of my head… but I like just [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] and [name_f]Leta[/name_f] too. But I’m also a little bit in love with [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Lettice[/name_f]. Complications, complications.
I voted for [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Lettice[/name_f]. I can’t say I’m a big fan of [name_f]Lettice[/name_f], even though I am fully aware of its pronunciation, but if you love it you should still use it, just in the middle. I’m faced with a similar problem with the name [name_m]Obadiah[/name_m]. I absolutely love it, always have but it’s just too much to expect a child to have to deal with being taunted with the inevitable nickname O.B./tampon jibe. If I ultimately use it, it will be in the middle where it can be a unique choice but not on constant display.
[name_f]Lettice[/name_f] doesn’t remind me of lettuce at all, and I’m American. However, I live in a fairly poorly educated area of the country, and I could see people being unaware of the name in general. Its a shame, really.
Anyway, I like [name_f]Lettice[/name_f]. I don’t love it, and I prefer [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], but I do like it. It would be quite a treat to meet a little one named [name_f]Lettice[/name_f], honestly.
[name_f]Lettie[/name_f] is adorable [and is on my list as a nickname for [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]!] [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Lettice[/name_f] is a gorgeous option as well, in my opinion.
I am aware that I didn’t narrow your options there, my apologies. Seeing as you love [name_f]Lettice[/name_f] more than [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], I would go with using [name_f]Lettice[/name_f] as a first name and saving [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] for later. [name_f]Lettice[/name_f] and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] would be cute sisters
