I don’t know how many of you will understand this, and I’ll try to explain it as best I can, but I want a boys name.
I’ve identified as bigender since I was about 12. I’ll just put the definition here:
“Bigender or bi-gender describes a person who feels they exhibit two genders. The two genders may include any particular gender on or outside of the gender spectrum. Some bigender individuals switch genders (Gender Switching), sometimes using different personas for either gender to feel comfortable in at any given time. It is recognized by the American Psychological Association (APA) as a subset of the transgender group.”
So I go between male and female. Up until recently, I’ve found it really hard on days when I wake up and need to be a boy to do it. There’s only so much layering I can do but nothing really covered my breasts since they’re pretty large. Since I haven’t been able to properly present as male, I haven’t thought hard about a male name. However, in the next few weeks, I’ll be getting my binder and packer for when I need to present as male since I have the money now.
Whether you approve or not, this is a name site and fundamentally I’m just asking to be renamed like anyone else. I need a name that suits me in my male persona. Some points:
When I present as male I have a domineering, out-spoken personality. I’m artistic, intelligent (I think so anyway), compassionate all the time. I don’t know what all you need to know to help give me my masculine name, so just let me know. [name]Black[/name] hair, brown eyes…I’ll attach a picture.
Again, whether you approve or not, I really appreciate it.
Interesting, and hell yeah, I approve! I want to say [name]Damon[/name]… I think it would fit you, it’s a fantastic myth that suits your needs and it’s such a splendid name. I will have a longer think and see if I can come up with anything, but for now this is it. Good luck sweetie!
Can I ask what name you go by when you present as female? Some ideas of boy names you like so we can get an idea your style? A suggestion would be to use a family name or surname that you like.
See, I thought about [name]Damon[/name], [name]Damien[/name], [name]Dante[/name]…those all fit for me, but [name]Dante[/name] and [name]Damien[/name] are both on my name list and are 100% getting used so I probably need to avoid all three. I’d greatly appreciate your help as I adore your name style.
I’m [name]Angel[/name] when I’m a woman. It’s my birth name and though I know it’s a male name, it doesn’t suit my masculine personality. I very much dislike surnames and don’t like any family names. As for boys names I like… ones I’m definitely using on babies will be [name]Damien[/name], [name]Alexander[/name], [name]Raphael[/name], and [name]Asher[/name] so all those are out (as well as [name]Quillon[/name], Frode, [name]Dante[/name], [name]Griffin[/name], [name]Soren[/name], [name]Loki[/name], and [name]Constantine[/name] (even though I think I’d make a great [name]Constantine[/name])).
Ugh, I’m an idiot. I know [name]Damien[/name]'s on your boy list. Okay, I’m going through my name book in search of awesome middles for baby #2 at the moment, and wil keep a look out for brilliant Angelesque names while I’m at it.
Oh, Bragi/Brage just popped into my head. It’s one of y favourite Norse mythology names. And Pythias too (from the [name]Damon[/name] myth as you know) but it might not be… how do we put this… pretty enough? I love it, but I’ve heard people say it sounds not so nice.
I actually think Pythias sounds quite nice, but just not for my own use. I do love Bragi (and Balder but won’t use that) but…hmm…I’ll have to think on it. I want something that feels like me, but have the chance to use something more out there than I would on a child so I’m looking for a great happy medium.
I do love [name]Caleb[/name] as a name, as you can see it’s on my list up there, but feel like maybe it’s too biblical for my own identity (I know, I know, I’m [name]Angel[/name] but I didn’t choose it )
When I first ready your description of yourself, the name that came to mind was [name]Colby[/name], so [name]Cole[/name] and [name]Colton[/name] on your list stand out. I also really like [name]Lucien[/name] and Xazvier for you from your list.
The Hebrew name Malach means [name]Angel[/name], I thought it might be fitting to keep the connection between both of the names you go by.
I also think [name]Gabriel[/name], one of the seven archangels from the bible would be a very fitting name based on the description you gave - though its current popularity may be a deterent.
I believe the other archangels are:
[name]Michael[/name], [name]Raphael[/name], [name]Uriel[/name], Raguel, Remiel and Saraqael.
[name]Colby[/name] (to close to my husband, [name]Cody[/name]), [name]Levi[/name] (ex boyfriend) and [name]Will[/name] (current room mate) are out.
So far I’m mulling over [name]Cole[/name], [name]Drake[/name], [name]Remi[/name] ([name]Cody[/name] goes “Oh you are so a [name]Remi[/name]!” So we’ll see there), [name]Vaughn[/name], [name]Silvan[/name] (though probably going to have to say no there since [name]Silvana[/name] is my number 2 girls name. Sigh), Zane.
I’ve been thinking about it and as much as I want a long, gorgeous name like [name]Orpheus[/name] or [name]Cassian[/name] or Peregrin or anything else on [name]Ottilie[/name]'s list, I think I’m going to need a short name. Short, strong names just fit me. So, now we’re going for short, strong, and unusual.
Thanks for the responses! Out of the other suggestions I liked [name]Sage[/name], [name]Grey[/name], [name]Roan[/name]. I like [name]Nyx[/name] too, but [name]Nyx[/name] is a girl in Greek mythology. After thinking about those other ones, I’ve decided they don’t work.
I’ll try the Otter method: I need something bouncy, lively, AIRY (as air is my element), fun but that still could belong to an artist and intellectual. Picture sitting on a windy hill and the life but serenity you feel with the wind on your face, then picture the exhilaration you feel white water rafting with the wind and water stinging those same cheeks. That’s sort of what I want with my name, something that brings together both sides. Maybe I’m asking too much >.<
So right now the choices seem to be between Remi and Zane, but I’m not sure and would love to have some more options with that description in mind.
Wow, thank you for sharing. I consider myself to be pretty deep in the LGBT community where I live and I have not heard of bigendered people. Thank you for informing me! I am not great with name suggestions, but I really would like to help you. I need to really think about it and get back to you!
