I’ve been feeling a little uninspired with names lately.
To jolt me out of my rut, I would love it if you would each advocate for a single name and tell me why you love it! (It doesn’t have to be your all time favorite, just one that you want to gush about)
She’s a Swahili and Amharic name meaning ‘beautiful flower’ which is, well, beautiful! I love saying it - so bouncy and fun. To me, she’s a happy, always-positive girl with a smile that brights up a room. She’s sprinklers on sunny days, lots of laughter, lemonade, cartwheels on the beach, bright colors always…
She does feel very sunny and cheerful and has the both the qualities of more contemporary names and more classic ones. Also, Ayanna is easily pronounced in Spanish, English, French and so many more. And isn’t the nickname Aya so sweet? She is so a good way to get to Annie!
I hope you’ve enjoyed my rant… I’ll defintely be back!
[name_f]Galatea[/name_f]. I think it sounds beautiful, it reminds me of stars and galaxies, and I like the story of the statue transformed into a woman.
She’s my new favourite and has firmly wedged her way into my top girl names. I think she’s whimsical, wholesome, bright, has lovely religious connotations along with the whole concept of faith being so important to my life. For me [name_f]Faith[/name_f] evokes imagery surrounding quaint [name_f]English[/name_f] cottages covered in roses, pretty churches, frost covered paths, roaring fires and stained glass windows. I like that she’s easily recognisable yet underused. I think [name_f]Faith[/name_f] is gorgeous!
I’ve been loving [name_f]Faith[/name_f] recently as well! She’s such a wispy, soft, pretty name. Makes me think of the saying ‘bless her little cotton socks’!
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite name at the moment has to be [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] !!
To me, she just fits so many vibes at the same time. She’s golden and regal, like a queen or a [name_m]Roman[/name_m] empress, level-headed and wise. She’s also the fun and playful [name_u]August[/name_u], child-like, silly, and so so caring and kind. To me she’s just so lovely and could fit any lovely girl!!
I’ve been thinking about [name_f]Keziah[/name_f] today, so I will advocate for that!
[name_f]Keziah[/name_f] feels warm, cosy, and wintery - a little princess-y, but with kick. It’s got the pleasant softness from the ‘Keh’ sound, but with the sass and sharpness of the ‘Zye’ and I like that balance in the name. The meaning ‘cinnamon’/‘cassia tree’ is intriguing and fun, and I like the possibility of the nicknames [name_f]Kez[/name_f], [name_f]Kezzie[/name_f], [name_f]Kizzy[/name_f], Kai/Kei, [name_f]Kia[/name_f], Keia, [name_u]Ziah[/name_u], [name_f]Kiki[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite pronunciation is Keh-ZYE-uh, but Kez-ee-uh is lovely too
Uh, I am thinking to give you the name of my OC, Clémentine (teen, not tine pronounciation). When I wrote her character, I thought of a redhead who lived in a farm like Green Gables type, and after working in the farm she would go to sing to the river or walk near the meadows, and is an eternal optimist and always finds the good things of life, even if she does not have much. She has three lizards and a cat. She is smart and adventurous and never gives up. That is how I picture a Clémentine :)) Clémentine is such a name full of live and countryside spirit!
I picture an Héloïse as a painting of the French impressionist era. In the park, in the green, a young woman wearing a light blue hat and a light spring dress of the 19th century. She is an artist, and paints as well; her personality is somehow like Amy March. Héloïse is well educated and mature, yet enjoys interactions with others. She is blond and has eyes colour of the sapphire. Héloïse is a gem of the Medieval Times and romance poems (Abelard et Héloïse) yet so bubbly today!
I imagine a Klara like this - she always wears long dresses of past centuries, of dark colours, and always wears a ribbon colour of her dress. She is very pale. She does not speak almost at all at people, and loves to stay at home playing piano. She is a musicist. When she goes out though she is always inspiring people with the music. The house is old and Gothic vibe. Aesthetics - German Dark Academia - 17-18th century. Klara is a name with old fashioned style in it yet unexpected!
Irina laughs a lot, is always happy, cheerful, youthful, with long black hair and dark eyes, but skin of colour of a swan. She sings, she dances, she is extrovert. There is life in Irina. The sound of the name is also very melodious and sweet.
Elsa is the oldest sister, she is a glamorous black and white movie star, like Greta Garbo or Marlene Dietrich vibe. She is intellectual also and full of spirit, and with some mystery. Elsa is a name with personality and strength!
I’ve got a serious crush on Zebidah, and she’s terribly underrated. The name is derived from Hebrew “zabad” meaning “to give, to bestow”. Zebidah has the same feel to me as [name_f]Zipporah[/name_f], only it feels a little fresher and more zippy and spunky. Zebby / Zebbie is an adorable nickname.
[name_f]My[/name_f] newest love is [name_f]Aubrie[/name_f]! To me it’s a sweet, classic sounding name but this spelling gives it a more modern/feminine twist. I have also seen someone call their daughter ‘Aubrie strawberry’ as a pet name, which to me gives it a summery feel and makes me enjoy it even more.
I really love this prompt! Choosing just one name is hard, but [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is a name on my list that brings me so much joy! I don’t care for [name_f]Frances[/name_f], so I would just use it as a stand alone name. It makes me think of a strong, intelligent, and independent girl!
@smileymiley [name_f]Ayanna[/name_f] is so sweet and sunny! I don’t see her much on here (I’m surprised she’s not more popular), thanks for sharing!
@marysia , [name_f]Galatea[/name_f] is gorgeous! It’s very regal and pretty. Thank you!
@tori101 , [name_f]Faith[/name_f] is definitely a name I associate with you, and I appreciate hearing the meaning and love this name has for you. It’s a lovely name. Thank you for sharing!
@coolauntieviolet , ooh, [name_f]Malaika[/name_f] is a good one. Thanks for telling me about it!
@winterlyricalfox , I love seeing your impression of this name. Thank you!
right now, i would have to say sweet charlotte. while relatively popular, she’s classic without being overused. there are also many cute and unique nn options, and she goes well with almost any middle name! charlotte is just an absolutely timeless name and can fit many different vibes/aesthetics!
[name_f]Araluen[/name_f] it means Water lilies and has the the cute nickname options of [name_u]Ari[/name_u], lulu, [name_u]Lenny[/name_u]. Plus its soft pronunciation, ara-loo-en, is just dreamy
She’s not my #1 favorite at the moment, but I love it so much & don’t see it too often on Nameberry. It’s just so clean & elegant & vintage & simple & feminine but not frilly. It’s well known & not popular & has beautiful shiny imagery!
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] - I love sweet and timeless names, so this is definitely up there for me. I don’t often see a lot of love for it, even though it’s my opinion of a perfect name! It gives me warm and cozy, but also strong and brave vibes from the name! It feels very protective and sisterly to me, so I think she’d make a great big sister! The name makes me think of roses, music, the outdoors, and family.
