[name_m]Just[/name_m] a couple of recent discoveries that I thought I’d throw out into the ether and see what you all thought of them.
[name_f]Laverne[/name_f] - I can’t totally remember but I think this was a character on an old (20 years old or so) tv show and the woman was in her late 40’s/early 50’s. NB’s page for this name is a little bit mean about it, [name_f]IMO[/name_f], so I thought I’d put it to a wider audience to see if everyone else feels the same.
Ameliana - SJ Strum recently did an ‘invented names’ video on youtube and this was one of them. It’s a bit frilly for my usual tastes but I liked it, maybe because it’s sounds quite similar to [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] which is one of my favourites. I doesn’t feel too made up, to me, and I could see this appealing to those that love the [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]/[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] trend but not the popularity.
What do you think? Be as brutal as you like! Thanks.
I don’t hate [name_f]Laverne[/name_f], but it would definitely read as an edgy/hippie sort of choice these days.
[name_f]Ameliana[/name_f], on the other hand, definitely sounds made up to me. Like one couldn’t decide between [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] and decided to smoosh them together.
I feel like [name_f]Laverne[/name_f] and similar retro names will have their time in the sun again, but that time is not now. Its a bit difficult for me to think of the name beyond the sitcom character.
Ameliana personally isn’t my cup of tea, but I can see how it would have appeal.
[name_f]Laverne[/name_f] - sorry, not too keen on this one. It feels sort of frumpy (and masculine?) to me, but I could see where the appeal would come from.
Ameliana - I prefer [name_f]Emiliana[/name_f], but even then, I like [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] more. It does have a nice sound, though!
My age is showing, but I also immediately thought of [name_f]Laverna[/name_f] from [name_f]Barbie[/name_f] Fairytopia, which I prefer to [name_f]Laverne[/name_f]. As for Ameliana, I prefer [name_f]Emiliana[/name_f], but they are both lovely names.
I really dislike [name_f]Laverne[/name_f], sounds rough and unattractive.
On the other hand, Ameliana is too frilly. [name_m]Just[/name_m] feels like one too many syllables on [name_f]Amelie[/name_f].
I don’t like [name_f]Laverne[/name_f]. Sorry. What about [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]?
I do like Ameliana, but once I saw [name_f]Emiliana[/name_f] was a more established (not entirely made up) name, I prefer that. It is a bit frilly for my tastes too. I prefer [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].
I think I had a colleague called [name_f]Laverne[/name_f] - not someone I met but someone who’d send communication emails out. I’m not a fan of the name, it feels outdated, like something I’d maybe expect one of my friends mums to be called.
I don’t consider Ameliana made up at all. I’ve had Ameliana/Emeliana/[name_f]Emiliana[/name_f] on my list for quite some time. I love the frilliness, and how she sounds fresh but still classic.
