is a beautiful word and garden. The [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation is exquisite. I would love to meet a young Giverny. Any thoughts?
Beautiful! Totally in favor.
I dont think it would be pronounced well here in the US.
I have to agree with previous poster. When I hear it in [name_m]French[/name_m] it sounds beautiful, but not so much in English
This used to be on my list! I really like it. If your worried about pronunciation Journey would be a good alternative
I really like it
It sounds so exquisite in french. I’m in favour, but maybe if pronunciation is an issue where you are, it’ll work better in the middle?
[name_m]Alas[/name_m], pronunciation seems to be a problem for so many names. While I wouldn’t choose a Celtic name I’m not even sure how to say (Ceabhallen or Lagohaire, sp?), I do know how to say Giverny and others could learn. At 56, I won’t be getting pregnant, but I do hope someone will name her daughter Giverny (and her son Givenchy, so beautiful too). If there is room for [name_m]Wrecker[/name_m] and such, there must be room for names of great beauty, right!?
I think it could be a lovely name and even if not pronounced totally as a [name_m]French[/name_m] person would (does it have a guttural sound in the middle?) it would still work, as that is how names have travelled.
As for your ‘Celtic’ names here, am not sure about the first and couldn’t find it by searching, though I could give a guess at pronunciation. The second however I recognised right away as a misspelling of ‘[name_m]Laoghaire[/name_m]’, which is awkward to spell but not to pronounce- as it is the name [name_m]Leary[/name_m].
Thank you for pointing out that there IS room for names of great beauty! Today, we live with angry names such as [name_u]Remington[/name_u], [name_m]Fox[/name_m], [name_m]Maverick[/name_m], Boomer, [name_m]Axel[/name_m], [name_u]Harley[/name_u], [name_m]Talon[/name_m] and [name_u]Rebel[/name_u]…Silly noun names such as [name_f]Cricket[/name_f], [name_f]Apple[/name_f], [name_u]Echo[/name_u], [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], [name_u]Paisley[/name_u], [name_u]North[/name_u], [name_u]Scout[/name_u], and on and on and on…
Any takers on the name? It’s odd that there are so many bazillions of people in the world and so many names never seem to be used.
It’s not a name I would use, but I do agree that there are so many unused and underused names out there, yet people seem to resort to misspelling popular names in order to make them “unique” or “uncommon” which it doesn’t do or creating their own names or spelling names backward. Ugh.
I agree that it’s beautiful, but I’d use my other [name_m]French[/name_m] place name GP first… Annecy!
I’ve never heard Annecy! [name_m]How[/name_m] do you say it?
@lesliemarion It sounds like “ann-see” in [name_m]French[/name_m], but I suspect it would be “[name_f]ANN[/name_f]-eh-see” a lot in English-speaking settings. Both so pretty!
