[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are expecting a little girl very soon and it’s starting to become “crunch time” on her name. [name_f]My[/name_f] (overbearing) mother in law has been pushing for ages to us a traditional [name_m]French[/name_m] name for her (my husband is [name_m]French[/name_m]-Canadian) and I’m finally giving in as we still have no other ideas. [name_f]My[/name_f] only concern is that we live in the United States and no one in my family can pronounce certain [name_m]French[/name_m] names. Can you think of any [name_m]French[/name_m] names that are easy to say in both [name_m]French[/name_m] and English? I’m not a very “flashy” person, so I don’t want the name to be super long/frilly but I do want it to have a feminine touch, hope that made sense!
[name_f]Camille[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliette[/name_f]
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilou[/name_f]
[name_f]Clea[/name_f]
[name_f]Violette[/name_f]
[name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f]
I’m an English speaker and can easily pronounce these.
I like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (but I’m worried about how popular “[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]” is because I really don’t like that nickname) and [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], thank you!
[name_f]My[/name_f] mother in law had been pushing [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] (but only said the [name_m]French[/name_m] way) but it’s just a bit too much for me!
See the link below for a database of popular Québécois baby names. Most of the names used today are similar to (or exactly the same) as those used by English speakers. You shouldn’t have any trouble finding something that works.
A lot of those names are a little too much for me, sorry! This is why I really didn’t want to use a [name_m]French[/name_m] name, a lot of them are just a little too…much (I can’t think of a better word for it) for me.
[name_f]My[/name_f] friend is also [name_m]French[/name_m]-Canadian, and her parents wanted her and her sisters names to be french. They’re called [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]. I thknk there are loads of names of french origin out there that are equally familiar in English speaking countries, these being great examples! good luck!
[name_f]Florence[/name_f] is too much for me and because of friends, [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] are names that we can’t use
[name_m]French[/name_m] names are beautiful! Finding a name that your family can pronounce shouldn’t be hard as you’ll find that there are many [name_m]French[/name_m] names that are very familiar in English-speaking countries, like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Nicole[/name_f].
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] fits my non-flashy feel but it’s the name of my husband’s ex so that would be awkward to use it! The others are a bit much sorry! Tho is why I’ve been pushing so hard not to use a [name_m]French[/name_m] name, they are all too much/flashy/over the top which I really dislike and don’t want
