I have two sons with the names [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] [name_m]Cash[/name_m] and [name_m]Shepard[/name_m] [name_m]Knox[/name_m]. What I love about their names (esp [name_m]Shepard[/name_m]), is that they are different, but not too out there. You’ve heard them before, but they aren’t everywhere. [name_m]Shepard[/name_m] has a nice meaning and lastly, both names work for a 2 year old as well as a 50 year old.
I’m struggling with girl names as they either feel too cutesy or too formal. Also, not sure the names on my list have the same uniqueness as the boys’ names. Hoping to find something feminine (to contrast the masculine feel of [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] & [name_m]Shepard[/name_m]) and not overly traditional (no alexandra, victoria etc). Thanks peeps!
Would love to hear your thoughts (be honest!) on the names I have on my short list and feel free to add suggestions.
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] (what would nn be?)
[name_f]Bea[/name_f] (love this, but is it too much of a nn to be used as her full name. I like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], but it doesn’t sound very feminine to me)
[name_u]Emery[/name_u] (too popular? different enough?)
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_u]Haven[/name_u]'t even started on middles yet!
Out of your list I like [name_u]Emery[/name_u] the best. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is very popular at the minute and I do think [name_f]Bea[/name_f] is a nn and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] has a distinct lack of nn.
Some suggestions:
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_u]Ariel[/name_u]
[name_f]Pandora[/name_f] nn Panda
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u]
[name_u]Everly[/name_u]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Daffodil[/name_f]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_f]Mariel[/name_f]
[name_f]Minnie[/name_f]
[name_u]Paisley[/name_u]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helped! If not I can suggest more!X
I would like to suggest:
[name_f]Athena[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_f]Marina[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_u]Waverly[/name_u]
[name_f]Reyna[/name_f]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f]
[name_f]Magdalen[/name_f]
[name_f]Calla[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] (what would nn be?) This is a nickname isn’t it?!? I’m not sure that there is another short form.
[name_f]Bea[/name_f] (love this, but is it too much of a nn to be used as her full name. I like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], but it doesn’t sound very feminine to me) I love this as a nn, if was our choice when we were thinking of [name_f]Bianca[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], but was thinking [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] would have been a fun nn.
[name_u]Emery[/name_u] (too popular? different enough?) It’s not popular at all here. And it’s a different way to get [name_f]Em[/name_f], or [name_f]Emme[/name_f].
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] Starting to trend… my co worker’s [name_u]Baby[/name_u] [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is about 9 months old. I love this name.
When it comes to the surname feel that your boys have… you can match that, or take a completely different direction. As boys, theirs match, but as the only girl - you have a lot more freedom.
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] - I think this is downright adorable. I love [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]. It’s on my own list as a middle. I suppose you could use [name_m]Pip[/name_m] as a nn, or something along those lines. Or–and this would solve your problem completely–use something like [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] as a full name, and use [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] as a nn.
[name_f]Bea[/name_f] - I find it ironic that you don’t find [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] feminine, but [name_u]Emery[/name_u] you do. There’s always [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], or [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], or [name_f]Bianca[/name_f], or something along those lines. Or really, any “B” name could yield the nn [name_f]Bea[/name_f].
[name_u]Emery[/name_u] - I like [name_f]Em[/name_f]- names. Really, I do. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], even Esmee/[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] “[name_f]Emmy[/name_f]”. But [name_u]Emery[/name_u] I find much too masculine, as well as [name_u]Emerson[/name_u]. I don’t see the appeal of [name_u]Emery[/name_u] at all.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] - lovely, but if you want something a bit less common, I wouldn’t go with [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. It’s jumped nearly 800 points in less than half a decade, and it doesn’t show signs of slowing down. I think it’s truly beautiful, and I’d love to meet an [name_f]Isla[/name_f], but if you want something a bit less common, I’d go for [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] or something along those lines.
What about:
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] (or [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], although [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is growing in popularity, as well)
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Blythe[/name_f]
[name_f]Nadia[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]
[name_f]Bea[/name_f]-my favourite is beautiful and I know of a girl that has that name (no formal name).
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] I find a bit cute next to the boys.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] too common at the minute.
[name_u]Emery[/name_u] Is ok.
Other suggestions:
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_u]Macey[/name_u]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]
Some surnames used for girls are [name_u]Bailey[/name_u], [name_u]Piper[/name_u], [name_u]Emerson[/name_u], [name_u]Whitney[/name_u], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_u]Avery[/name_u], Brittain, [name_u]Courtney[/name_u], [name_u]Harper[/name_u]
[name_u]Leigh[/name_u] or [name_u]Lee[/name_u]
[name_u]Gene[/name_u] or [name_u]Jean[/name_u]
[name_u]Dale[/name_u]
[name_u]Dana[/name_u]
[name_u]Aidan[/name_u]
[name_u]Devin[/name_u]
[name_u]Daryl[/name_u]
[name_m]Kearney[/name_m]
[name_u]Keegan[/name_u]
[name_u]Keely[/name_u]
Kel by or [name_u]Shelby[/name_u]
[name_f]Darcie[/name_f]
[name_f]Kinsey[/name_f] or [name_u]Kenzie[/name_u]
[name_u]Kerry[/name_u]
[name_u]Kit[/name_u] (as a nn for [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Katrina[/name_f], or on its own)
[name_m]Kyler[/name_m]
[name_u]Skyler[/name_u]
[name_u]Dylan[/name_u]
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u]
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]
[name_f]Sandie[/name_f] (nn for [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], or on its own)
[name_u]Selby[/name_u]
[name_u]Sheridan[/name_u]
[name_u]Shaye[/name_u]
[name_u]Sorrell[/name_u]
[name_f]Waverley[/name_f]
[name_u]Whitney[/name_u], [name_f]Whitley[/name_f], Whitby
[name_u]Wylie[/name_u]
[name_u]Wynn[/name_u]
Some of these names, like [name_u]Devon[/name_u] or [name_u]Wylie[/name_u], might sound a bit more ‘out there’ than others, but I’ve come across them as girls’ names.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_u]Marlow[/name_u] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]? nn could be [name_f]Mae[/name_f] or [name_f]Maeby[/name_f] or [name_f]Marly[/name_f] [name_f]Bee[/name_f] or [name_u]Arly[/name_u] [name_f]Bee[/name_f] or [name_u]Arlo[/name_u]…
[name_m]Harrison[/name_m] and [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] both have an S and an H - you could do a girls’ name that follows that pattern as well - [name_f]Ailish[/name_f], Thistle, [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]!)…
I also like [name_f]Carys[/name_f] or Willaby or [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Bea[/name_f]). Good luck!
I immediately thought of [name_f]Waverley[/name_f] for you, which I believe someone else has already suggested. Different, but not weird, sort of surnamey feel like your sons…I think it’s perfect!
Other ideas for you: (feminine, different, not too out there…)
[name_u]Meredith[/name_u] (has that surname feel)
[name_u]Adair[/name_u]
[name_f]Cassia[/name_f] or [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Nola[/name_f]
[name_f]Calla[/name_f]
Good luck finding something perfect for your little one! Congratulations.
I immediately felt names that were naturey and girly were the way to go…Some of my favourite names seem to fit well…
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] ([name_f]Goldie[/name_f]… love [name_f]Goldie[/name_f]!)
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] ([name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Nola[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f], [name_f]Gia[/name_f], even [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] would work again!)
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] ([name_u]Rory[/name_u])
[name_f]Clover[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
Also ‘red’ names come to mind for some reason
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] ([name_f]Lettie[/name_f], [name_f]Etta[/name_f])
[name_f]Crimson[/name_f] (sunny)
[name_u]Valentine[/name_u] ([name_f]Tiny[/name_f], [name_f]Leni[/name_f]… It’s fits the surnamey theme)
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] (probably too popular but I like it with your sons names!)
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] is a great fit with your sons in my eyes. I do like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] but it doesn’t feel so unusual)
[name_f]Garland[/name_f] or [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] were the first names that popped into my head. I love [name_f]Garland[/name_f]. It brings to mind images of [name_f]Judy[/name_f] [name_f]Garland[/name_f]. And I just think [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] would be obviously girl, but it stands up nicely next to [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] and [name_m]Shepard[/name_m].
