Gloria, Joan, or...?

Looking for a potential sister name to big sister [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f].

Would be okay with nature/flower or tree name, but not our biggest goal, and hesitant it’s too cutesy/themey. I also dislike anything with same initial or overly rhyming or repetitive sounds…L, M, B, V are all ruled out for first letter.

We like less common Biblical names or ideas. Big brother is [name_m]Lazarus[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m].
We prefer unusual, but recognizable as a name/word, not too hard to spell.

Mn has to be [name_f]Deborah[/name_f] for family reasons.
I think I’m drawn to what I consider strong-sounding, not-so-frilly girl names, and a lot of my favs have a strong -O sound. (Which shows up in my own name, [name_f]Lois[/name_f], as well as [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]–and especially her daily nn Magno.)

Currently, top choice might be [name_f]Gloria[/name_f].
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f].
Does it sound funny in combination, or too similar in ending with [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]?

I’m also really loving [name_u]Joan[/name_u] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f]. Is that too plain next to big siblings?

Other favorites:

[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. Nn [name_f]Tilda[/name_f]/[name_f]Tillie[/name_f]
[name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f]

Thoughts? Suggestions along these lines?

I prefer [name_u]Joan[/name_u] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f], [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] is too similar to [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f].

I think [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] would sound great with [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]! Maybe [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] [name_f]Isla[/name_f] or [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] [name_f]Erin[/name_f]?

I like [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f]

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (could have nn [name_u]Joan[/name_u] or [name_f]Joanie[/name_f]!), [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] are nice too!

[name_f]Julia[/name_f]/[name_f]Juliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Winona[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]

[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] is fab. Makes me think of the [name_f]Patti[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] song. I do see the similarity to [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] though. Maybe [name_f]Glory[/name_f] is an alternative?

[name_u]Joan[/name_u] is also a great and underused name but I don’t see her as a perfect fit with your other kids’ names. Not my favourite with [name_f]Deborah[/name_f] either.

I looooove [name_f]Rhoda[/name_f] from your list. Really gorgeous and a great sister name. [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] are my other two faves with your kids.

A quick brainstorm that might give you more ideas, a few wild card chances too

[name_f]Verity[/name_f], [name_f]Amity[/name_f]
[name_f]Olwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]
[name_f]Eluned[/name_f], [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], [name_f]Eleni[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] from your list.

I don’t quite like [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] or [name_u]Joan[/name_u] for a sister of [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]. [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] to me sounds too similar and [name_u]Joan[/name_u] is too plain in comparison.

I love the name [name_f]Gloria[/name_f], but I don’t like the way it sounds with [name_f]Deborah[/name_f]. I also tend to dislike when the first name ends in an “ah” sound and the middle name does as well, but that’s just me personally. I also don’t really like using a long first name with a long middle, especially if the last name is long as well (probably from personally experience from my own name haha) but since your other kids have long names, I think it would match well.

As others have suggested, I also like [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].
I would also suggest [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], [name_f]Morganna[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Juliette[/name_f], [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]

[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] is lovely, but I do think it’s a bit too close to [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] in that they share several of the same letters and end in the same sound.

Similarly, [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f] doesn’t seem quite right - same number of syllables, same sound at the end, and the long O in the same spot. It’s just not quite as lyrical as [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f].

I’m really digging [name_u]Joan[/name_u], too, but it does seem a bit underwhelming compared to siblings [name_m]Lazarus[/name_m] and [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], and it seems a little stunted with mn [name_f]Deborah[/name_f]. What about [name_f]Joanne[/name_f]? Maybe not quite as strong as [name_u]Joan[/name_u] or as pretty as [name_f]Joanna[/name_f], but I kind of love [name_f]Joanne[/name_f] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f] - so retro!

My favorites from your list and previous posters’ suggestions:
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f]

I’ll also throw in these long O names for consideration:
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f]
[name_u]Simone[/name_u] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f]
[name_f]Paloma[/name_f] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f]
(H)[name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f] (too close to [name_f]Lois[/name_f]?)

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] again!

I already suggested a bunch on your other post, so I’ll just comment on the new ones. I will state again though that [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] is perfect. It doesn’t seem too close to [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] at all, in my opinion.

[name_u]Joan[/name_u]-It’s definitely plain next to your kids’ names. It’s certainly unique, & I guess a little [name_f]Joanie[/name_f] would be kind of cute.

[name_f]Rhoda[/name_f]-I don’t know that I find this that pretty. It’s a bit clunky & plain sounding.

[name_f]Iris[/name_f]-This works well w/your crew. It’s not my personal favorite, but I can’t pinpoint why. It just sounds snobby, maybe?

[name_f]Azalea[/name_f]-This is gorgeous! Perfect.

[name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]-Also nice. I don’t think it’s nearly as pretty as [name_f]Azalea[/name_f] & [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], but the nn Zinny is super cute.

[name_f]Willow[/name_f]-This is fine, but really really getting popular.

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]-I love it! It’s my darling doggy’s mn. It’s so vintage & spunky, but also very feminine. Lots of great nns too like [name_f]Bea[/name_f], [name_f]Bess[/name_f], [name_f]Bette[/name_f] or [name_f]Trixie[/name_f].

[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]-This is fine. It doesn’t seem to have as much flair as [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f].

[name_f]Flora[/name_f]-Aw, I like this one a lot. It has a kind feeling to it, but also a little sass.

[name_f]Vera[/name_f]-Similar to [name_f]Flora[/name_f], but I think that [name_f]Flora[/name_f] sound prettier. And is way way less common.

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]-I love this. It’s beautiful & sophisticated, but also sweet.

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. Nn [name_f]Tilda[/name_f]/[name_f]Tillie[/name_f]-I don’t mind it, but it’s not bad. I totally prefer [name_f]Millie[/name_f] for some reason.

[name_f]Helen[/name_f]-I can’t get over the ‘hell’ part. [name_f]Do[/name_f] love the nn [name_f]Nellie[/name_f].

[name_f]Ramona[/name_f]-This is cool, & fits in nicely.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

From your list, [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is my favourite. I think [name_m]Lazarus[/name_m], [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] & [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] look and sound right. Backup choices would be [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f], [name_f]Azalea[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] & [name_f]Flora[/name_f]. ( I don’t like [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f] though, since the endings are so similar!!).

I do think [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] is a bit similar to [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], but if it’s the one you love, I think it’s far enough to use it. Especially if you call [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] Magno, [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] is very far from Magno. I think [name_u]Joan[/name_u] sounds a bit too simple next to [name_m]Lazarus[/name_m] & [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f].

Thanks for input, everybody!

I think we need to mull in it for a bit re: what’s highest priority, whether name/meaning we love vs flow with mn and ln vs fitting perfectly with siblings.

I might just be having name infatuations with [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] and [name_u]Joan[/name_u], as they’re recent loves.

I agree with whoever said [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] fits really perfectly…I’m not sure DH is sold on this one yet! And ideally I was hoping to avoid B names.

[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f] definitely too rhyming. My DD also rejected [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f] because “sounds like floor”. ”

I think [name_f]Iris[/name_f] too close to my [name_f]Lois[/name_f], tho i like it for someone else…

I’ve always loved [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. We know a few [name_m]IRL[/name_m] so trying to decide if a dealbreaker.
