Gloria or Greta?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]!
I love both names, but I can’t choose! Which do you like better and why? Thanks!

[name_f]Greta[/name_f]! It’s such a cool, feisty, spunky name.

[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] is nice but still reads more “old lady” than “funky retro” to me.

[name_f]Greta[/name_f]! I like the slight international vibe and the fact that it isn’t overly used. [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] feels a bit old and dusty to me yet.

I love [name_f]Greta[/name_f]. [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] still feels old, like she’s getting ready for retirement.

Definitely [name_f]Greta[/name_f]. It’s my current favorite actually, but partner said it was “too hip.” :frowning:

Another vote for [name_f]Greta[/name_f]! I agree with other users that [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] is vintage in a “dusty and old vintage” way whereas [name_f]Greta[/name_f] feels “new-vintage”. I know a 10 year old [name_f]Greta[/name_f] and think it’s a great name!

Both names are absolutely beautiful, but I think you would reGRET not using [name_f]Greta[/name_f]

Both are very pretty, but I prefer [name_f]Greta[/name_f]'s spunk.

[name_f]Greta[/name_f] is my easy favourite - it has such a cool smart modern vibe. [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] feels very dated and unappealing to me.

I love them both, but would much rather be named [name_f]Greta[/name_f].

[name_f]Greta[/name_f] is [name_f]Greta[/name_f] [name_f]Garbo[/name_f], exquisitely beautiful and elegant.

[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] is [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] Steinem, strong and powerful, and also attractive.

I also associate [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] though with some less attractive associations.

[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] is a daring choice. You’d have to be sure your kid was going to be good-looking or charismatic. [name_f]Greta[/name_f] makes the person seem both!

[name_f]Greta[/name_f] definitely! Super sweet and spunky!

Another vote for [name_f]Greta[/name_f]! It’s currently on my top 5 list. And pretty much the same reasons everyone else said, the only [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] I have ever known was in her 70s, so I also think of it as more of an old lady name. However, if you did decide to use it, it would probably be ok as it seems like the “old lady” names are coming back. I recently have met a couple of Mabels which I know people love, but I would also consider that one an old lady name [name_f]IMO[/name_f]!

So… my toddler daughter’s name is [name_f]Gloria[/name_f]. I love it. We get compliments on her name all the time. I suspect a lot of the posters here would feel differently if they met a little [name_f]Gloria[/name_f]. That said, both names are great. But I’m happy to be the first to vote for [name_f]Gloria[/name_f].

[name_f]Greta[/name_f] sounds very germanic and [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] sounds latino. so i guess it depends what feel you’re aiming to go for.

Another vote for [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] here! I want to love [name_f]Greta[/name_f], but always think of regrettable. My five year old niece is [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] (surprise [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] [name_u]Day[/name_u] baby). She has curly blonde hair and big blue eyes and is spunky and sweet. We all call her Glo, which is a pretty fabulous nickname. My sister gets positive feedback on her name all the time. And all the old ladies named [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] are always thrilled to meet her

If you live in the US, then [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] for the win. Sorry, I can’t stand the American pronunciation of [name_f]Greta[/name_f]. It makes me think of “regret” or “grits”.

[name_f]Greta[/name_f]. Definitely [name_f]Greta[/name_f].

[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] fills my mind with images of 60/70 year olds and that’s not something I see fading anytime soon. [name_f]Greta[/name_f] makes me think of older women as well, but more the 80/90 year old category, which is more favored right now. I just don’t think [name_f]Gloria[/name_f]’s ready for a comeback, yet.

[name_f]Greta[/name_f] 100%.

I actually think [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] is ready for a comeback! And I’ve always liked [name_f]Greta[/name_f] so it’s a tough call. I think it depends on your last name. Picking without knowing that, I’d give [name_f]Greta[/name_f] the slight edge.
