Gloria

I’ve read a few of the posts here about [name]Gloria[/name] and it seems that the consensus is that most people like [name]Gloria[/name], but no other variations such as Gloriana.

As you all probably know, we would like to use [name]Elena[/name] as a first name to honor DH’s mom ([name]Elaine[/name]), but I would also like to honor my mom. We can’t use her other name, [name]Fay[/name], because it’s already been used by my brother and [name]SIL[/name].

[name]Elena[/name] [name]Gloria[/name] V. would be 3-3-3 with syllables and I don’t think it sounds good. However, I do think [name]Elena[/name] Gloriana V. sounds good/better because it’s 3-4-3. I’m pronouncing it glor-ee-ahn-ah not anna.

Thoughts?

My problem with Gloriana is the heavy association with [name]Elizabeth[/name] I. It’s so holy, divine, pure, celestial, virginesque and over the top, full of praise, high up on a pedestal. But it is pretty. I just prefer [name]Gloria[/name]. [name]Even[/name] if it is a 3-3-3 name.

Hmm I did a quick google search because I wasn’t aware of this association. Is it a negative one?

No not negative; it was a popular name used by poets to praise the queen.

I think [name]Elena[/name] [name]Gloria[/name] is just fine, especially since you are choosing a middle name that honors a family member. Really hardly anyone will ever call her by all three names – high school graduation is the only time I can remember anyone [name]EVER[/name] using saying all three of my names out loud. I infinitely prefer [name]Gloria[/name] to Gloriana.

The problem with using Gloriana for me is the na-na endings. I think [name]Gloria[/name] flows just fine in the middle even with the 3-3-3 syllables. And in my opinion, [name]Gloria[/name] is a far superior name overall.

Oh, I love [name]Gloria[/name]. Have to agree, Gloriana is too much but [name]Gloria[/name] is stunning. So is [name]Glory[/name]. Maybe [name]Elena[/name] [name]Glory[/name] then? [name]Elena[/name] is sweet btw.

I love the suggestion of [name]Elena[/name] [name]Glory[/name]! [name]How[/name] sweet.
