I didn’t want two -ric names so Godric is a goner. I’m still on the fence with [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m] though. Could I get more opinions on it and suggestions for names that would complement [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m] and [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]. Just to be clear Alaric and Godfrey would both be middle names, not first names. I’m looking for unusual names like Alaric and Godfrey to be used in the middle.
[name_m]Godfrey[/name_m] would be almost impossible to pull off. It’s a really cool name, but like I said on another thread, he would have to be the perfect mix of intellectual, charismatic, and eccentric aristocrat for it to work. [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m] and [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] are perfect for brothers though. As for siblings, I would mix and match with these lists: Upright Elegance - British Baby Names and Gothic Victoriana - British Baby Names.
[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m] and I don’t think he needs to be charismatic aristocrat to pull this name off. I think this names suit on smart boy.
This name is on my own list and I pair it with [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m].
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u] [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m] [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m]
[name_m]Vane[/name_m] [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m]
[name_m]Edric[/name_m] [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m]
[name_m]Amias[/name_m] [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m]
[name_m]Alaric[/name_m] is also nice.
I had a great-uncle named [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m], but he went by [name_m]Jeff[/name_m] in day-to-day life. I think it’s a cool name. However, as @southern.maple said, it isn’t a name that would suit every boy. I feel like it needs an outgoing, charming type to carry it off well.
Names in the same vein as [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m] and [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]:
[name_m]Cyprian[/name_m]
[name_u]Dorian[/name_u]
[name_m]Elihu[/name_m]
[name_m]Emile[/name_m]
[name_m]Victor[/name_m] (the name of one of my other great-uncles, [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m]'s brother)
[name_m]Xavier[/name_m] (actually, [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m] [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] or [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m] sounds pretty cool :))
@southern.maple
[name_m]Godfrey[/name_m] wouldn’t be a first name. It would be in the middle.
Thanks for the links.
There are some names from that were on my list, but I took them off. I’m rethinking them now. ( [name_m]Anton[/name_m], [name_m]Augustus[/name_m], [name_m]Basil[/name_m], [name_m]Casimir[/name_m], [name_m]Edwin[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Jolyon[/name_m], [name_m]Julian[/name_m], [name_u]Laurence[/name_u], [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m], [name_m]Leopold[/name_m], [name_m]Lucian[/name_m], [name_u]Taliesin[/name_u], [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m], [name_m]Phineas[/name_m]) ([name_f]Adela[/name_f], [name_f]Antonia[/name_f], [name_f]Camilla[/name_f], [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], [name_f]Josephina[/name_f]. [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f])
[name_m]New[/name_m] favorites: [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], [name_m]Caspar[/name_m], [name_m]Cedric[/name_m], [name_u]Constantine[/name_u], [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m], [name_m]Lucius[/name_m], [name_m]Octavian[/name_m], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f], [name_u]Morgan[/name_u], [name_f]Rosina[/name_f], [name_f]Sabina[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f], [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] and [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]
@sorceress
[name_m]Julian[/name_m] is on my list, but I’m starting to love the medieval form [name_m]Jolyon[/name_m] a bit more. I don’t know if many will know that it’s a legitimate name.
[name_m]Felix[/name_m] will always be a cats name to me because my sisters cat was named this. [name_m]Edric[/name_m] is interesting, but I prefer other [name_m]Ed[/name_m]-names and I already have one -ric name. [name_m]Vane[/name_m] sounds exactly like vain and I don’t think it’s legitimate first name. I really like [name_m]Amias[/name_m]. I think it could work to honor an [name_m]Amos[/name_m]. I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] especially with the nickname [name_u]Ari[/name_u].
I really like [name_m]Victor[/name_m], but my sister in law is [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]. I think I could get away with using it in the middle though, so it is going to stay on my long list.
Quoting myself. ![]()
I’ve narrowed down the list to:
[name_m]Anton[/name_m]
[name_m]Augustus[/name_m]
[name_m]Basil[/name_m]
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m]
[name_u]Laurence[/name_u]
[name_m]Lucian[/name_m]
[name_m]Cedric[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
Hermionone
[name_f]Josephina[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]
[name_m]Domingo[/name_m]
Dominico (doh.MINN.ihk.oh)
[name_m]Stetson[/name_m]
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m]
[name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m]
[name_m]Balthazar[/name_m]
[name_m]Prescott[/name_m]
[name_m]Clovis[/name_m]
[name_m]Aries[/name_m]
[name_m]Jedidiah[/name_m]
I really love [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m]. It’s on my list of names that I’m not sure are very usable in the first name spot, but I like them as more unusual middles.
I’m fond of [name_m]Jedidiah[/name_m], but I love [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] too much to add it to my list.
I do like [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], but it’s so long and the chances it will be misspelled is really high. I don’t like [name_m]Bart[/name_m] and [name_u]Barry[/name_u] either.
Thank you!
I wish I had a great many names to suggest but I find that I am oddly attracted to boys names with a c in them. (see my list…lol. I figured I would worry about it later, or make it a theme.)
Maybe [name_m]Emil[/name_m], [name_u]Tristan[/name_u], [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m], [name_m]Torsten[/name_m], [name_m]Hector[/name_m], Aurelian or [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] would work. Though besides [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] I don’t get the same feel as I would from [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m]/Godric and [name_m]Alaric[/name_m].
And OMG you are like my boys name twin. FREAKY!!! I love it.
Oh, I have the same problem. I hate having to give up names because of how similar they sound to my favorites.
[name_m]Torsten[/name_m] and [name_m]Hector[/name_m] are going on me, but not in the same way I love [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m] and [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]. I’m really picky with the names I like, almost OCDish. In my mind they have to be absolutely perfect. I still have to find the right first name to go with [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m] so for now I’m going to put aside the search for similar names.
I love [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] as middle only mostly because I hate [name_m]Vince[/name_m]. Bones has won me over with the combination [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_m]Vincent[/name_m].
I said that in my other thread.
It fun running across people who have a similar taste in name as me.
Yeah I strongly dislike [name_m]Vince[/name_m] and [name_u]Vinnie[/name_u] too. But I love [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]. I might consider [name_m]Vin[/name_m] though it’s not perfect… I think currently a forerunner might be Vint. (Yes Bones started me liking [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] but after giving into my "teenage-self” and watched an episode or two or the awful Beauty and the Beast I decided I really like [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] on an adult. Very sexy. And therefore must be considered…:))
My SO has a really standard name and no nn. (Well one but it is completely unrelated to his name). So I always consider that no nn could be an option.
I don’t like any of the possible nicknames for [name_m]Vincent[/name_m], but I do think it’d make a brilliant middle name. I probably won’t use it because there are a lot of names I love more. There are a couple names that I love as a whole, but the nicknames are just unattractive to me. I know no nickname is an option, but my family is very pro-nickname and will absolutely nickname my children.
