Going Insane with Choices?

We thought we settled on a top list for this baby, but lately I’ve been falling in love with tow names that feel out there.
For a girl, I like [name]Tempest[/name], and for a boy, I like [name]Ransom[/name].
Our daughter is [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Grey[/name], and I don’t feel like either fit with her name.
Can you dissuade or persuade me?

Ohh, I like [name]Tempest[/name] a lot, too! Especially for the connection to [name]Shakespeare[/name]! That’s probably no help dissuading you, haha. What if you used [name]Tempest[/name] as a MN? I think something like [name]Luella[/name] [name]Tempest[/name] would be very lovely with [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Grey[/name]… [name]Tempest[/name] would be too out-there for me to use, so I’m not sure I can convince you, but I can’t really not convince you, either, haha. I think using it as a MN would work. You’d still get the funky name choice, but also have something that goes with [name]Miriam[/name]'s name (and sounds good on a resume).

Good luck!

[name]Tempest[/name], yep - I think is fine. [name]Mim[/name] and Tempy :). [name]Ransom[/name], absolutely not - and I’m not loving the name anyway.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with either of those names, but both sound very out of place with [name]Miriam[/name]. I’d try to match style for the first name, but I like the suggestion of using them as middle names.

ooh i love the suggestion of [name]Luella[/name] [name]Tempest[/name]

I agree- as middle names, they would match [name]Grey[/name] very well in the sense of being modern ‘meaning’ names. As firsts, when paired with [name]Miriam[/name], they would make [name]Miriam[/name] look dowdy and themselves look silly. [name]Both[/name] would be detracted from, instead of added to.

I think that [name]Tempest[/name] is adorable and agree that it would perfectly in the middle name spot! [name]Miriam[/name] is such a beautiful, classic name that her sister would need an equally gorgeous and classic name to not look out of place.

I’m going to play the devil’s advocate on [name]Ransom[/name]. As a word name, it may seem stylistically opposed to [name]Miriam[/name], but [name]Ransom[/name] was a perfectly respectable surname back in the day (a shortened form of “Ranulf’s son,” alternately spelled [name]Ransome[/name]), and the meter, sounds, and syllables of the name itself are very complementary. Perhaps that extra -e could be applied, to elevate the name from such company as [name]Bandit[/name], [name]Chase[/name], and [name]Rebel[/name], to its former dignity.

As for [name]Tempest[/name], I see no reason on earth why she doesn’t work with [name]Miriam[/name]. [name]One[/name] of [name]Miriam[/name]'s meanings is “star of the sea” so there is the nature connection. [name]Tempest[/name] has the Puritan cousin of [name]Temperance[/name] and a powerful literary association, courtesy of [name]Shakespeare[/name]. And [name]Miriam[/name] need not feel dowdy in comparison to [name]Tempest[/name]'s…well, tempestuousness. After all, an alternate meaning of [name]Miriam[/name] is “their rebellion!”

I’m getting more conflicted as I read these responses to be honest. I like that [name]Ransom[/name] has roots to it, but it still feels like a modern bad boys name, and [name]Tempest[/name] is a gorgeous option to get to Tempe, but it feels so different than [name]Miri[/name]'s name.

I just have to say, [name]Miri[/name] and Tempe sound adorable together

I’m reading a book right now by the author [name]Ransom[/name] Riggs and [name]Ransom[/name] is a character name in CSLewis’ books, so it doesn’t feel the same to me as a name like [name]Bandit[/name], lol, which honestly sounds like the name a zookeeper would give to their pet raccoon.

As for [name]Tempest[/name], I don’t like it, what about [name]Vesper[/name]?

[name]Tempest[/name] i like! but is there ‘pest’ potential? is Temperence an option? i love Bones tv series lol… and Tempe and [name]Miri[/name] ahhhhh ADORABLE!

i am going insane with choice too… i wish i were fussier than i could cross out a whole load of the names and narrow it down! unfortunately i am very easily swayed… i have gone from classic vicotrian names only!! to something quirky and different! to I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]PERCY[/name]! CANT WE NAME HER [name]PERCY[/name]! PERSIMMON WOULD BE SO AWESOME! to [name]Elise[/name] so pretty and delicate like snowflakes… i change all the time and drive my poor OH nuts! she is a lot more studious and quiet compared to me… though the good thing is she is fussy so she vetoes a lot of names to help narrow down but then i get attached to the vetoed names and moan and moan until they are unvetoed and by that point i am onto a new name entirely.

i have been told i have the attention span of a five year old… it no longer bothers me…its probably true!

ooh, yes, I agree with this!

You guys are slowly swaying me towards [name]Tempest[/name] and [name]Ransom[/name], though I’m still not sure either of them will make it to the birth certificate.

W were considering [name]Temperance[/name], but ultimately decided it was too heavy for a baby. (Which I suppose is funny coming from the parents of a [name]Miriam[/name].)

temperance and miriam sound great together. i love Tempe as a nn.

I haven’t really got any advice on your boy’s name but I just have to say that [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Grey[/name] is a fantastic name! I [name]LOVE[/name] it.

I’d prefer [name]Temple[/name] over [name]Tempest[/name]. But [name]Tempest[/name] might be great as a MN. I don’t care for [name]Ransom[/name]…it has a negative connotation. In either case, I don’t think they go well with your daughter’s name.
