Goldwin/Goldwyn

Thoughts on naming a boy [name_m]Goldwin[/name_m]/[name_m]Goldwyn[/name_m], with a nickname [name_f]Goldie[/name_f]? Too feminine? Want to honor my grandmother, [name_f]Goldie[/name_f], who passed away this year. Other G names? first or last? to go with brother [name_u]Teddy[/name_u].
Thanks!

I love that you want to name your son after your grandmother. However, I do think [name_m]Goldwin[/name_m] might be a bit clunky and hard to wear. What about [name_m]Gordon[/name_m] with the nickname [name_m]Gordy[/name_m]? [name_u]Galen[/name_u]? [name_u]Grady[/name_u]?

My first thought was [name_m]Metro[/name_m]-[name_m]Goldwyn[/name_m]-[name_m]Mayer[/name_m], which isn’t a bad association at all, it just seems like kind of a random thing for a name to be associated with? I watch a lot of old movies though; I’d think it’s not a very current association.

I’ve heard a number of old-fashioned-sounding, non-traditional surnames as first names, so I don’t think it’d be a problem in real life, but I’m not too fond of it. Is your grandmother’s maiden name or something similar usable as a name, e.g. [name_m]William[/name_m] for [name_m]Williamson[/name_m]? Or is there a masculine form of her middle name, e.g. [name_m]Joe[/name_m] or [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]?

[name_m]Goldwin[/name_m] seems more like a male version of the name and [name_m]Goldwyn[/name_m] a female version…

[name_f]Goldie[/name_f] definitely sounds feminine.

Other G names:

[name_u]Golden[/name_u]
[name_m]Golding[/name_m]
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]/[name_m]Gabe[/name_m]
[name_u]Gale[/name_u]
[name_m]Gage[/name_m]
[name_u]Grove[/name_u]

Alternatively, names like [name_m]Aurelio[/name_m], [name_u]Paz[/name_u] or [name_m]Paco[/name_m] means gold, if you’re ok with that sort of connection. (http://www.meaning-of-names.com/search/index.asp?nm=gold&stype=1&gndr=1)
