Googling Names?

Does anyone else google potential names to see if there are any particular name associations with a particular name combo? I’m sure I didn’t do this with my first two children, but have since done this a lot, and its actually ruined a couple of my favorite first/middle name combinations. Other times, I’ve found some nice namesakes. I suppose its nice to know in advance of any famous characters people might think you’ve named your children after, even if spoils a favorite for you. I tried one of my favorites today and found its the same name as a very famous corrupt politician from a century ago from the same town where both my parents and my in-laws live! Oh well, my husband didn’t like the name anyway, so I guess its that much easier to cross it off the list. Anyone else have experiences like this?

I absolutely Google names. Sometimes I wonder if I shouldn’t though. There are times when a potential name that I love for the moment is shared with a seedy individual, such as a porn star, ect. I have to remind myself that a lot of celebrities no matter how they’ve reached their fame don’t always use their real names anyway. Some of the Old Hollywood starlets whose names we all love actually have quite different birth names. I Googled a name combo the other day [name]Rae[/name] [name]Emery[/name] and found a [name]Ray[/name] [name]Emery[/name] hockey player in [name]Canada[/name]. It did slightly sway me from that name but luckily as a good friend reminded me hockey is not as popular in the states like football.

I’ll even do a Google image search of a name. Honestly there are times when I’ll discover a name is shared with some one with great history and I’ll fall in love with the name even more, especially if the name is has some what of a mythological background.

To Google or not to Google? That is the question.
