Gord sounds too dated?

We’re considering [name]Gord[/name] for our second boy. Does it sound too dated? We’re also considering Gorde as a spelling.

Looking for a cool name that would also be unique. This would be his full name not nickname. Thoughts?

As a full name?
I prefer it as a nn for [name]Gordon[/name] or [name]Gordy[/name]

I would say that [name]Gordon[/name] and other similar names do sound dated. I’ve never seen just [name]Gord[/name]…but it makes me think of gourds which is a very odd connotation to me.

I also like [name]Gordon[/name] better as the full name. [name]Gord[/name] as a NN. What about [name]Gilbert[/name] (NN: [name]Gil[/name])?

I like [name]Gord[/name] as a nickname but you could prob get away with Gorde spelled like that. I personally think of mini pumpkins when I hear the name though

Sorry but [name]GORD[/name] stands for gastro oesophageal reflux disease. I would add the e if you are thinking about using the name. We are getting a lot of adverts on the tv about it at the moment where I live.

Yep, this.

That would be [name]GERD[/name]. It’s only one letter off but I’m on a GI floor right now (school) and I wouldn’t have thought about that connection.

Sorry must be different acronym here in Australia!

[name]Gord[/name] doesn’t sound dated because it was never popular. [name]Gregory[/name] NN [name]Greg[/name] sounds vaguely '70s to me (not horribly) and [name]Gavin[/name] sounds dated to my husband, who is Aussie - I’m American and [name]Gavin[/name] isn’t as dated sounding to me - but [name]Gord[/name] just sounds like gourd to me, the squash-like vegetable.

[name]Gordon[/name] sounds a bit dated but a bit more like a name.

[name]Garth[/name] vaguely reminds me of [name]Wayne[/name]'s World but I am an '80s baby.

[name]Gord[/name] doesn’t sound dated because it has virtually never been used as a name. But to me, it has other serious problems. Are you attracted to this purely because it is cool and unique? So many other choices that don’t call to mind either a hard-shelled squash or the stabbing of a bull!

It is a gross sounding name …it makes me flinch

All I can think is pumpkins and squash. sorry.

I love [name]Gord[/name] (/[name]Gordon[/name]) and thinks it’s awesome that some one else does too! It doesn’t make me think of pumpkins and squash but that’s probably because all my life I’ve known people with that name . I like [name]Gord[/name] as nn for [name]Gordon[/name] better than all by itself, but it is a nice -and different- name.

I’m sorry all I think of is gourd too, I honestly didn’t even know it was a name. I’d much prefer [name]Gordon[/name].
