GoT Names :)

Somewhere around I saw the name [name_m]Frey[/name_m] and started mulling it over in my head. I liked that it is similar to [name_f]Freya[/name_f] (a name I really like but can’t see myself using for some reason). Then I suddenly remembered the Freys and their atrocities and their absolute negation of the guest right. I mean, I know they’re not real but I just can’t imagine giving a child that name given how odious House [name_m]Frey[/name_m] is. Anyhow, I then started thinking about the family names of other houses and immediately thought of Stark.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like it? It’s a little severe, but I like how distinct and crisp it is, both in sound and meaning.

What other Game of Thrones names do you like? I like:
~[name_u]Arya[/name_u]
~Sansa
~[name_u]Elia[/name_u]
~Ellaria
~[name_f]Asha[/name_f]
~Cersei (though would never use, horrible namesake)
~Samwell (for whatever reason, I find way less guy name inspiration)

[name_u]LOVE[/name_u] GoT  Names I like :

Boys
[name_u]Bran[/name_u]
[name_m]Theon[/name_m]
Samwell

Girls
[name_f]Daenerys[/name_f]
Margaery
Sansa
[name_u]Arya[/name_u]

I am very passionate about the Starks. Stark is also a family name for me, so believe me, I’ve considered it. I’m not a fan of the modern definition though. I’ve also considered [name_m]Wolf[/name_m], [name_u]Winter[/name_u], and [name_f]Snow[/name_f] as more subtle tributes, but none of them stay on my list very long.

I’m also madly in love with the name Rhaegar. I have no idea why. I just think it’s really cool. I’ve decided to bestow it upon my second dog, should I ever get one.

I’ve actually had a lot of fun finding possible “base names” GRRM might have used to create his characters’ names. Most of them seem to be based on obscure Welsh or Scandinavian names. For example, Tirion ([name_m]TI[/name_m]-ree-on) and Tegeirian (teg-AY-ree-an) are Welsh names that remind me an awful lot of [name_m]Tyrion[/name_m] and Targaryen.
