Before we start- if you’re one of those who somehow thinks [name_f]Mazarine[/name_f] sounds like margarine just wait.
I’m not sure where you live but in the U.S. (specifically in the south) margarine is pronounced mar-jur-INN. [name_f]Mazarine[/name_f] is pronounced MAZ-uh-REEN
You might pronounce margarine differently but where I live no would ever think they sound alike unless you’re trying to reach.
Now what [name_f]Mazarine[/name_f] does sound like is magazine but that doesn’t really bother me too much.
So now that’s out of the way- what are your thoughts on [name_f]Mazarine[/name_f]? Potential nicknames could be:
I think it’s pretty. I don’t think it sounds like margarine at all. But in [name_f]France[/name_f] as far as I know, the name [name_f]Mazarine[/name_f] is very tied to one person, [name_f]Mazarine[/name_f] Pingeot, she was pretty much the first person to have that name. Kind of like Beyoncé being the only Beyoncé I guess? Someone [name_m]French[/name_m] might be able to correct me on this but I have an impression of it as a name being inextricably tied to one person.
The reason why I was so… passionate about it not sounding like margarine is because I had just had an hour long argument with someone who was almost insulting me- insisting it sounded just like it and that I would get bullied every time I said it. And then I looked it up and found that a few other people thought that way as well and just had no idea how they could’ve made that connection unless they pronounce margarine differently lol
And this Pingeot girl, really interesting, did she come up with the name? I’m trying to find all I can about it but there’s surprisingly not that much info on [name_f]Mazarine[/name_f]. If what you say is true then I might just drop the name from my list all together… I don’t think it would be right to have the name if it’s only associated with a single person, makes me feel like I’m copying.
Her father was [name_u]Fran[/name_u]çois Mitterrand, a former president of [name_f]France[/name_f], and she was born to his mistress, [name_f]Anne[/name_f] Pingeot. They named her after the [name_f]Mazarine[/name_f] Library. Because she was born to a mistress, her identity was basically kept secret, so when her existence was discovered by a journalist it was the scandal kind of thing. At least, that’s my limited understanding of the situation.
[name_f]Mazarine[/name_f] was one of my first favorite names! I think there are more associations that just [name_f]Mazarine[/name_f] Pingeot. I think of the [name_f]Mazarine[/name_f] library, the color [name_f]Mazarine[/name_f] blue, [name_f]Mazarine[/name_f] butterflies, etc. I like Maz and Mazzy and I think it would make a lovely, really distinctive name.
I think [name_f]Mazarine[/name_f] sounds pretty and distinctive, plus I like the associations with the colour and butterfly. It doesn’t sound like margarine in my accent either.

The only reason I wouldn’t personally consider it is because it sounds nearly identical to Nazarine which was the protestant denomination I grew up with my family practicing. That’s a pretty obscure association though and anyone who didn’t grow up in a Nazarine church probably wouldn’t be aware of that.
