I like these and think they work as first names:
[name_f]Anouk[/name_f]
[name_f]Alba[/name_f]
[name_f]Electra[/name_f]
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Temperance[/name_f]
[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f]
[name_f]Callista[/name_f]
Yes to:
[name_f]Anouk[/name_f]
[name_f]Alba[/name_f]
[name_f]Electra[/name_f]
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Temperance[/name_f]
[name_f]Gardenia[/name_f]
[name_f]Garnet[/name_f]
[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f]
[name_f]Callista[/name_f]
The only one I would caution you against is [name_f]Electra[/name_f]. You don’t want people joking about having an [name_f]Electra[/name_f] complex. But as for the rest, go for it! I love [name_f]Gardenia[/name_f], [name_f]Garnet[/name_f], [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f], [name_u]Waverly[/name_u], [name_f]Opal[/name_f], [name_f]Alba[/name_f], [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], and [name_f]Clover[/name_f].
For what it’s worth, I met a baby named Apples yesterday. Mom’s name was Pebbles. Seriously. If Pebbles has the balls to name her baby Apples, then [name_f]Alba[/name_f] should be a piece of cake!
What is/isn’t usable all depends on you, and what you feel comfortable using. [name_f]My[/name_f] guess:
GP or MN only:
[name_f]Clover[/name_f]
[name_u]Fable[/name_u]
[name_f]Alba[/name_f]
[name_f]Electra[/name_f]
Nym
[name_u]Oakley[/name_u]
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u]
[name_f]Temperance[/name_f]
[name_f]Monet[/name_f]
[name_f]Alouette[/name_f]
[name_f]Sonnet[/name_f]
[name_f]Poet[/name_f]
[name_f]Gardenia[/name_f]
[name_f]Garnet[/name_f]
Usable:
[name_f]Anouk[/name_f]
[name_u]Waverly[/name_u]
[name_u]Adair[/name_u]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Malou[/name_f]/[name_f]Milou[/name_f]
[name_f]Twyla[/name_f]
[name_f]Genoa[/name_f]
[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f]
[name_f]Callista[/name_f]
I love [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], [name_u]Adair[/name_u], [name_f]Electra[/name_f], [name_f]Opal[/name_f], [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] and [name_f]Callista[/name_f], by the way.
[name_f]Anouk[/name_f] - usable
[name_f]Clover[/name_f] - usable
[name_u]Fable[/name_u] - not for a first but maybe as a middle
[name_u]Waverly[/name_u] - usable but bordering on GP
[name_u]Adair[/name_u] - usable
[name_f]Alba[/name_f] - usable
[name_f]Malou[/name_f]/[name_f]Milou[/name_f] - maybe as a first but great as a middle
[name_f]Electra[/name_f] - not usable
Nym - not usable
[name_u]Oakley[/name_u] - nah
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] - as much as I want it to be usable, it’s not
[name_f]Opal[/name_f] - definitely usable
[name_f]Temperance[/name_f] - not usable
[name_f]Monet[/name_f] - not as a first but definitely as a middle
[name_f]Alouette[/name_f] - I’d say usable but bordering on GP
[name_f]Sonnet[/name_f] - only middle
[name_f]Poet[/name_f] - only middle
[name_f]Gardenia[/name_f] - not usable
[name_f]Garnet[/name_f] - usable bordering on GP
[name_f]Twyla[/name_f] - usable
[name_f]Genoa[/name_f] - usable
[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] - definitely usable
[name_u]Fable[/name_u] - not for a first but maybe as a middle
[name_f]Callista[/name_f] - usable
I’ve decided recently that most ‘out-there’ names can indeed work - it’s all about the person and how they wear it. There is certainly a point where things do get a bit crazy, however, I think most GP’s could work if you really wanted them to. If you’re confident in the choice, and (most importantly) aren’t embarrassed to use it and tell it to others, then your child is likely to be confident about it too, and wear it with pride. (That said, if you label a name as a GP the assumption that you are embarrassed about it is there, in which case, it’s probably not the best idea to use it - I mean, if you can’t yell it in a playground without feeling like a dick, or sit at their graduation without cowering in your seat when the full name is read, yeah, obviously, don’t do it).
Honestly, I can see all of these names working. There are a few I dislike for one reason or another outside of ‘usability’ but I wouldn’t raise an eyebrow too high at meeting a person with any of these names.
The name [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] is really pretty and definitely usable! I’ve known two of them in my life.
