Grandmother's Name for Baby Girl

I am so torn whether or not to use my Grandmother’s name for baby girl. My Grandmother was just like a mom to me and I would love to incorporate her name into baby girls name. Thoughts and suggestions would be great. My Grandmother’s name is [name_f]Retha[/name_f]. I was thinking for baby girl [name_f]Retha[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_m]Rogers[/name_m]. What do you think?

[name_f]Retha[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is adorable. You could also use [name_f]Retha[/name_f] as a middle name or perhaps a variation of it. [name_f]Aretha[/name_f], perhaps, or [name_f]Margarethe[/name_f] with [name_f]Retha[/name_f] as a nickname.

[name_f]Aretha[/name_f] makes me think of [name_f]Aretha[/name_f] [name_m]Franklin[/name_m]. Any other nickname suggestions?

[name_f]Retha[/name_f] [name_m]Rogers[/name_m] sounds odd to me. Have you considered [name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_f]Retha[/name_f] [name_m]Rogers[/name_m]?

I know this is sort of a stretch, but what about [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f], nickname [name_f]Retha[/name_f]? [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_m]Rogers[/name_m].

I do love the name [name_f]Kate[/name_f] as a first name (or [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]). So I would make [name_f]Retha[/name_f] the middle name, or following the suggestions of other Berries, use [name_f]Aretha[/name_f], [name_f]Margaretha[/name_f] or [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] etc as the middle name etc to pay homage to your beloved Grandmother.

[name_f]Retha[/name_f] [name_m]Rogers[/name_m] sounds like an Old Hollywood film star.

I like it a lot actually. I would keep it as [name_f]Retha[/name_f]. It’s beautiful. I like either [name_f]Retha[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] or [name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_f]Retha[/name_f].

I don’t love [name_f]Retha[/name_f], but if it’s important to you I think you should use it. [name_f]Retha[/name_f] [name_m]Rogers[/name_m] has a nice flow.

In case you are interested, another option would be to use the meaning. [name_f]Retha[/name_f] is a diminutive of [name_f]Aretha[/name_f] which means virtuous. [name_f]Briana[/name_f] is another name that means virtuous. Or you could use [name_m]Brian[/name_m] for a future boy.

If she was such a meaningful and significant figure in your life, why wouldn’t you keep her name as it is in your family? Trends come and go, but family history is forever. Especially a name like [name_f]Retha[/name_f] that isn’t common, yet is still pretty.

[name_f]Retha[/name_f] [name_m]Rogers[/name_m] happens to sound amazingly great, I really like the alliteration. [name_m]Bear[/name_m] in mind that she may take her husband’s name one day, so if the alliteration irks you a little, know that it’s not set in stone.

Perhaps double barrel it (without using a hyphen, those are annoying) to keep the name used and special, as well as make it your own at the same time?

[name_f]Retha[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] (As you suggested. [name_m]Just[/name_m] simply call her both!)
[name_f]Retha[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] ([name_f]Love[/name_f] this!)
[name_f]Retha[/name_f] [name_u]Kaye[/name_u] (Also love this, even more!)
