I have taught quite a number of [name]Lachlan[/name]'s and they were all smart, sweet natured and delightful.
Great name even in Australia.
[name]Emilia[/name]
[name]Gray[/name]: I grew up with a boy named [name]Gray[/name] (not short for anything), and most people thought it was pretty strange. However, I think most people better appreciate unique names now and it would be better received for a baby born today. I do think this one will be heard a lot in coming years with the popularity of names like [name]Grayson[/name]/[name]Greyson[/name]. I also think [name]Gray[/name] [name]Henry[/name] sounds a bit awkward, and it reminds me of the musician [name]Henry[/name] [name]Gray[/name] (not necessarily a bad thing).
[name]Jasper[/name]: I really like this one, and I think [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Henry[/name] sounds fantastic. [name]Jasper[/name] has a lot of history behind it, it’s cool without trying too hard, and it’s slightly unique but still recognizable. I wouldn’t worry about the Twilight Association.
[name]Caleb[/name]: [name]Love[/name] this one. It’s such a strong name, and I think it’s a classic that still sounds fresh. I actually think dog is a really sweet meaning. I understand why you don’t like the meaning though, but if you love the sound of the name, I wouldn’t let the meaning stop you. Sorry about your sister not liking it though, that can be tough.
[name]Lachlan[/name]: This one has a lot of the same benefits as [name]Jasper[/name] in my opinion. Cool without trying to hard, unique without being weird. Here in the US, it’s almost unheard amongst people who aren’t interested in names.
Good luck with the name and new baby!
As a [name]Brit[/name] my first instinct would be [name]Lachlan[/name], it’s a great strong name, which fits well with it’s gaelic counterparts but is much more unusual over here.
I like the other three names, [name]Gray[/name] may be a bit tricky to pull off in the UK (which makes me sad), as people tend to be somewhat more conservative with names.
[name]Jasper[/name] and [name]Caleb[/name] as both good solid names, which will work. Personally I can’t see the point in using a name if you don’t like the meaning, and your sister doesn’t like it, but that’s just me - lots of people wouldn’t mind! [name]Jasper[/name] can be a bit twee, but works for a British 2013 baby.
[name]Hope[/name] you don’t mind my honesty!
Best of luck choosing - you have made some great picks
There is only one name you said you love- that is [name]Caleb[/name]. It doesn’t really matter what you sister thinks and I don’t think “dog” is a particularly bad meaning. That said:
Have you considered: [name]Issac[/name], [name]Seth[/name], [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Levi[/name], or Isiaih to honor your Jewish heritage?
Have you considered names that sound similar to [name]Caleb[/name]? [name]Caden[/name], [name]Callum[/name], [name]Calvin[/name], [name]Colin[/name]
Thanks for the feedback!
I like [name]Gray[/name] best and [name]Caleb[/name] second best.
My favorite is [name]Caleb[/name]. I love the friendly, handsome vibe I get from [name]Caleb[/name] [name]Henry[/name], and I just really like the name [name]Caleb[/name] in general.
My main objection to [name]Gray[/name] as a first name is that it makes the full name sound like a description. Let’s say your last name is [name]Parker[/name]. [name]Gray[/name] [name]Henry[/name] [name]Parker[/name] makes it sound like you’re talking about sad [name]Henry[/name] [name]Parker[/name]. [name]Jasper[/name] feels kind of overdone, although in reality it isn’t as popular as it seems on Nameberry. I used to love [name]Jasper[/name], but it doesn’t appeal to me like it used to. [name]Lachlan[/name] doesn’t appeal to me either.
That said, there isn’t anything wrong with [name]Gray[/name], [name]Jasper[/name], or [name]Lachlan[/name]. They would all be good names. I just happen to really, really like [name]Caleb[/name].
[name]Jasper[/name] is my favorite, but I like [name]Caleb[/name] best with [name]Henry[/name].
[name]Gray[/name] - Hmmm… I understand not wanting to use [name]Grayson[/name], I think that [name]Gray[/name] could work.
[name]Jasper[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this name, it’s in my top 5. I don’t think this name is going to get too many Twilight associations, I would say mostly that will be with the names [name]Bella[/name], [name]Edward[/name], and [name]Jacob[/name].
[name]Caleb[/name] - Like [name]Caleb[/name], every [name]Caleb[/name] I know is very nice
[name]Lachlan[/name] - This is a good name, strong, handsome and in the U.S. it is not very popular.
I like all the names except for [name]Caleb[/name]. There is nothing wrong with [name]Caleb[/name], it is just super trendy and popular where I live in [name]Ontario[/name]. My favorite from your list is [name]Lachlan[/name], followed by [name]Jasper[/name] and then [name]Grey[/name]. I actually like that [name]Lachlan[/name] is popular internationally, it makes it feel more substantial and seems like it would be an easy to name to have no matter where someone chooses to live or travel to.
[name]Gray[/name] - I’m not a fan of this name but I’m not entirely sure why. Maybe because its normally means sad in some contexts.
[name]Jasper[/name] - I like it but its not on my usable list as I don’t think it suits a grown man well.
[name]Caleb[/name] - This is one of my all time favourite names. I only know one [name]Caleb[/name] who is about 14 and is really lovely.
[name]Lachlan[/name] - I know about three little boys with this name probably because I live in [name]Scotland[/name]. I like [name]Lachlan[/name] and I think the nickname Lachie is super cute but I can’t really imagine in on someone who isn’t Scottish. Most people who aren’t Scottish can’t properly pronounce it.
My vote is for [name]Caleb[/name]. I just want to clarify the meaning of “caleb”. Many people think that the meaning is “dog” since the hebrew word for dog is “ke-lev”. [name]Caleb[/name] is the anglicanized version of the name “kah-layv” which translates into “whole hearted” or faithful. Additionally, he was a pretty amazing biblical figure, one that served G-d “wholeheartedly” and was inspiring.
Not that there’s anything wrong with dog…
I voted for [name]Lachlan[/name] because where I’m from (midwest US), it’s not a common name.
FWIW, I don’t have the Twilight association with [name]Jasper[/name]. [name]Lachlan[/name] [name]Gray[/name] sounds nice.
I love the name [name]Caleb[/name](jacob used to be one of my faves)
[name]Lachlan[/name] I love but not as much as [name]Caleb[/name] for a first. Although the combo [name]Caleb[/name] [name]Lachlan[/name] sounds lovely.
[name]Gray[/name] I love as a name and color but is rather short for my taste unless the 3 or 4 syllable middle was there to balance.
[name]Jasper[/name] I dislike.
I think [name]Lachlan[/name] and [name]Caleb[/name] go best with [name]Henry[/name]–and would go best with a single syllable surname beginning with a P. I voted for [name]Lachlan[/name] because I like nn [name]Lock[/name] and you said you were a bit put off by the meaning. [name]Both[/name] would be good choices.
I voted for [name]Caleb[/name]–I just couldn’t help myself! I adore it so much. The nn [name]Cal[/name] is pretty adorable, although I think I’d use [name]Caleb[/name] most of the time, anyway. Plus, through an amalgamation of name databases that I’ve gone through, and Hebrew commentary on the name, I have been led to believe that in the original Hebrew context, [name]Caleb[/name] means “as devoted as a dog”, which I like much more. It’s still a bit weird to be compared to a dog, imo, but I love the idea of my son’s name embodying all the love and devotion and commitment and protection of a beloved pet, without the annoying yapping (can you tell I’m not an animal fan? haha!). I love the thought that my son will be determined to never stop protecting those he loves. I don’t know. I feel like I’m repeating myself a lot, but it’s only because the image in my head is so beautiful and I don’t know how to put it into words. haha. Of course, I know the chances of [name]Caleb[/name]'s meaning being a self-fulfilling prophecy is pretty slim, but it’s a value I plan on instilling in my children, anyway, so it’s an added bonus that that’s what [name]Caleb[/name] means.
I love [name]Gray[/name], too, though, and I like [name]Jasper[/name] and [name]Lachlan[/name] (don’t love them, though).
I love [name]Grey[/name]/[name]Gray[/name]! I don’t like any of its longer forms like [name]Greyson[/name] though. The only thing that holds me back on this one now is 50 shades of [name]Grey[/name]. Afraid it might be associated with that.
Completely agree. In fact I was about to write it when I read this.
[name]Caleb[/name] is my favorite of your choices, and I think it flows the best as well.
I voted [name]Caleb[/name]. I love that name! Very close second is [name]Lachlan[/name]. [name]Grey[/name] is nice, but kinda trendy right now, especially if you include all the Greysons that will be going by [name]Grey[/name] as a nn. [name]Jasper[/name] is just nms. I still think the villain from 101 dalmations i guess
