[name_u]Gray[/name_u] honors my late mom through her middle name. It is also a name she had a soft spot for. I have been trying to find a middle name that means “love” or something similar. Not having any luck. Hopefully you all can help. Thanks much.
[name_m]David[/name_m]?
Maybe [name_m]Caradoc[/name_m] (or a variant thereof)?
Carwyn?
Or Amantius/Amancio? Maybe Amandus or Amatus/[name_m]Amato[/name_m]?
Armas (works in Finnish but this word means other things in different languages). Philetos/[name_m]Philo[/name_m] or Agapitos/Agapios (better check those with a Greek speaker, but I think those are the forms you’d use for names. The inly one I’ve definitely heard is [name_m]Philo[/name_m])?
Others might be more qualified than me to judge whether these are right.
Any particular type of love? Would names that mean “beloved friend” or “love of god” etc work for you, or do you have a more specific love in mind?
Good luck.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] read through your other thread and I’m so, so glad someone talked you out of [name_m]Eros[/name_m]. It makes me uncomfortable thinking someone would name their child, knowingly at least, after sexual love… serious ick factor! I am a Greek [name_m]Christian[/name_m] though so the Greek words for love are more known to me than most.
Agape is the Greek word for (put simply) loving everyone well, and is most frequently used. You could try and pull a name from it or use something similar.
There is also Philia (brotherly love/friendship) and storge (my spelling may be wrong) which is more like teacher/mentor to student appreciation but can be between parent and child.
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] that helps give clarification and maybe some inspiration!
My post supports this & I’m half Greek also [name_m]Philo[/name_m] ( spelled Phyllo) as a word on its own is a type of dough for making things like baklava haha
And it’s delicious
But there’s also [name_m]Philo[/name_m] of [name_f]Alexandria[/name_f], right? Or is that an Anglicization?
To be honest, I don’t know! I’ve only ever known that to be [name_m]Philo[/name_m] Judeas though I’ve never made the connection before.
Thank you both so much.
I guess it has to do more with the feeling of love, togetherness, beloved friend than the meaning. It is hard for me to describe. That special bond a family has and can never be broken. For example [name_u]Hartley[/name_u] doesn’t work by meaning but the feel of [name_u]Gray[/name_u] [name_u]Hartley[/name_u] through sound works. If that makes sense.
I like that my combos look like regular names/combos but to close family and friends we know just how special they truly are. Instead of using names that bring the attention of honoring more front and center and is more obvious by people outside the family. So also looking for names that are not so obvious to that feeling.
haha This is why I usually do the searching myself and than ask what combos people prefer.
You could try [name_m]Erwin[/name_m] supposedly it means “army” and “friend” to represent a deep, strong bond. [name_m]Irving[/name_m] (it’s root) means “sea friend”, which could mean a friend from being at sea, someone you won’t leave and is in it for the long haul. They’re both very unassuming names. [name_u]Gray[/name_u] [name_m]Irving[/name_m] is actually quite cute, if you ask me.
I do think “storge” love, in a Greek sense, is exactly what you’re describing. I just can’t derive any names from it, sorry!! It does sound a bit like [name_u]Story[/name_u], though.
[name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] means “heart” in Aramaic. [name_m]Lennan[/name_m] means “sweetheart”. You could also use [name_u]Valentine[/name_u]/[name_m]Valentino[/name_m]/[name_m]Valentin[/name_m]. [name_m]Hugh[/name_m]/[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] means “heart, mind, spirit”. Amandus/Amando means “lovable, worthy of love”. Amatus/[name_m]Amato[/name_m]/[name_m]Amado[/name_m] means “beloved”. [name_m]Jedidiah[/name_m] means “beloved”. Amantius means “loving”. [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] means “rich friend”.
All the meanings for behindthename…
Thank you so much.
“[name_m]Army[/name_m]” would also include my dad into the combo. Their marriage in itself describes true, endless love. They loved each other the last moments of my mom’s life as much as they did when they first fell in love.
Although [name_m]Irving[/name_m] would not be a name I would normally use, I think [name_u]Gray[/name_u] [name_m]Irving[/name_m] is a handsome combo. As is [name_u]Gray[/name_u] [name_m]Erwin[/name_m].
Thank you so much. Going to jot down these names. [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] and [name_m]Tad[/name_m] have actually been names I have loved since I was a child.
[name_m]Davis[/name_m] means “beloved”, while [name_m]Hamlin[/name_m] is “little home-lover” Both [name_m]Redmond[/name_m] and [name_m]Raymond[/name_m] mean “wise-protector”, maybe they could work.
The meaning of [name_m]Homer[/name_m] is also related to security, pledge, hostage.
So my list is:
[name_u]Gray[/name_u] [name_m]Davis[/name_m]
[name_u]Gray[/name_u] [name_m]Hamlin[/name_m]
[name_u]Gray[/name_u] [name_m]Raymond[/name_m]
[name_u]Gray[/name_u] [name_m]Redmond[/name_m]
[name_u]Gray[/name_u] [name_m]Homer[/name_m]
Thank you so much.
[name_m]David[/name_m] was my mom’s daddy’s middle name. [name_m]David[/name_m] or [name_m]Davis[/name_m] would be extra special. My mom is with her mom and daddy now. My mom’s childhood family were a very close family, like my own childhood family, and I hope my son feels the same way now.
“Wise-protector” is a great meaning for the feeling I am going for.
[name_m]Marius[/name_m] is sometimes treated as a feminine form of [name_f]Mary[/name_f]/[name_f]Maria[/name_f] (which may come from an Egyptian word meaning love or beloved).
Personally I don’t think [name_m]Eros[/name_m] is that bad, at least outside of Greece. People use [name_f]Venus[/name_f], which means the same. If I remember correctly there is a famous Italian singer named [name_m]Eros[/name_m] Ramazzotti.
in a quick search i came across [name_u]Dylan[/name_u], which means [name_u]Love[/name_u] in turkish apparently, to add to what others have offered.
Thank you.
A part of me thinks it’s a middle name we are talking about. Very few people know my middle, or my middle initial for that matter. For us and our friends, not only here but other parts of the world do not view it as a bad name.
But I also think I do not know where my children might find themselves as adults. Or who they may be with.
I adore the feel of [name_u]Gray[/name_u] [name_m]Eros[/name_m] for what [name_m]Eros[/name_m] means for us. It was also brought up to just use Arrows. I also thought of [name_m]Archer[/name_m], which also honors others. I’m not sure if they are too off for me, or with Arrows to in your face. It also is making more focus on a cupid type, instead of love and beloved in a family sense. But with a combo like [name_u]Gray[/name_u] [name_m]Archer[/name_m] it gives somewhat of that feel but in itself very special.
Maybe find a name about God’s protection or something. Yes, I am typing my brainstorming. haha
Lightbulb moment. haha Thoughts about [name_u]Gray[/name_u] [name_m]Bennett[/name_m]. [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] means “blessed” and is also an honor name.
