Gray or Grey

Which spelling do you prefer?

I prefer [name]Grey[/name]

I agree, I like the [name]Grey[/name] spelling better

I love [name]Grey[/name]. It is more masculine and will age better to me. I know that sounds crazy but it is true

I don’t really like it as a name at all, but if I had to choose I’d pick [name]Grey[/name] since [name]Ray[/name] is unpleasant to me.

[name]Gray[/name] and grey are different spellings of the same word, and both are used throughout the English-speaking world. But gray is more common in American English, while grey is more common in all the other main varieties of English. In the U.K., for instance, grey appears about twenty times for every instance of gray. In the U.S. the ratio is reversed. I prefer [name]Gray[/name] myself but it really is a personal preference.

I prefer [name]Grey[/name]

Sort of, lol. Here, if you spell grey as ‘gray’ people will simply say you spelt it wrong. [name]Grey[/name] is the only correct way to spell it in English English  For a name however, I don’t think the spelling really matters. I prefer ‘[name]Grey[/name]’ because, to me, ‘[name]Gray[/name]’ looks wrong.

I live in the U.S. and the majority of people spell the color as gray, but I’ve always spelled it as grey. I don’t know why, as I was born and raised here and there are no other words I do this with–I mean, I wrote color instead of colour. As far as names, I still prefer [name]Grey[/name], probably b/c when I was young I was really into the X-men, so my first exposure to [name]Grey[/name] as a name was [name]Jean[/name] [name]Grey[/name], spelled as such.

Here’s something I pulled off wikipedia: “[name]Grey[/name] is the British, Canadian, Australian, Irish, [name]New[/name] Zealand and South African spelling, although gray remained in common usage in the UK until the second half of the 20th century. [name]Gray[/name] is the preferred American spelling, although grey is an accepted variant. [name]Gray[/name] became the preferred spelling in American English around 1825.”

As far as names go, since it’s a word name and both are accepted variants, I wouldn’t call either wrong, despite my personal preference.

We’re planning to use [name]Gray[/name] because it’s my Scottish mother-in-law’s maiden name. Spelling depends on what part of the UK you’re from, and using the ‘a’ was (for her) important for distinguishing that.

I prefer [name]Grey[/name], gray has always looked weird to me. [name]Grey[/name] looks more distinguished.

I don’t know any statistics but I see gray and grey used pretty evenly. And I’m pretty sure the teachers didn’t care which spelling we used in grade school, both were accepted. The U.S. is a huge and diverse place so there are always regional differences.

[name]Grey[/name] all the way!

[name]Grey[/name]! A million times, [name]Grey[/name]!

As a Canadian [name]Grey[/name] is the only way I’ve ever spelled it. For that reason alone I would choose [name]Grey[/name]. That being said I find the use of the word [name]Grey[/name] as a name…trendy maybe? It’s too bad, I’m rather fond of it

I am Canadian and I spell it [name]Grey[/name]. I also prefer [name]Grey[/name] for the name’s spelling as well. [name]Gray[/name] just seems wrong to me, and like others have say it, it reminds me of [name]Ray[/name], which is blahhh.

I like [name]Grey[/name] for a boy! [name]Gray[/name] seems more feminine to me probably because of [name]Grace[/name].

I prefer [name]Grey[/name]. [name]Gray[/name] doesn’t look right [name]IMO[/name].
