Greek Girls' Names

I’ve always loved Greek names, and lately I’ve been toying with the idea of using Greek middle names for our daughters. If this baby (our first) is a girl, our current top contenders are [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Daphne[/name], and we would probably use the name not used for a future sister.

If we have a third daughter, I’d ideally like the middle name to have a different ending from her sisters’. The problem is, I can’t think of many Greek names that don’t end with an “ah” or “ee” sound. These are the ones I’ve come up with so far:

[name]Helen[/name]
[name]Evangeline[/name]
[name]Alexis[/name]
[name]Clio[/name]
[name]Eos[/name]
[name]Nyx[/name]
[name]Echo[/name]
[name]Hero[/name]
[name]Artemis[/name]
[name]Demeter[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Danae[/name]

Of those, I do like [name]Helen[/name], [name]Evangeline[/name], [name]Alexis[/name], [name]Clio[/name], [name]Eos[/name], [name]Nyx[/name], and [name]Artemis[/name], but I’d probably only seriously consider [name]Helen[/name] (although I prefer [name]Helena[/name]) or [name]Evangeline[/name]. (I’d consider [name]Alexis[/name], too, if [name]Alexander[/name] wasn’t one of top boy choices. And I didn’t even list [name]Margaret[/name], because that’s my name.)

Can y’all think of any others that might work? If it helps, I like the name [name]Veronica[/name] for a third daughter (unless I can convince DH to let me use [name]Zoe[/name], my all-time favorite, in the first spot.)

Of the names listed, I think [name]Clio[/name] and [name]Evangeline[/name] are the most wearable. I’d love to come across a sibset named [name]Clio[/name] and [name]Zoe[/name].

I also love [name]Danae[/name] (it’s on my list) and [name]Hero[/name]. I hate the sounds of [name]Iris[/name] and [name]Alexis[/name] for some reason, but that’s just me.

I think [name]Karis[/name]/[name]Charis[/name] is Greek for [name]Grace[/name]. Only because my husband is studying Greek right now and we were searching [name]Grace[/name] alternatives.

I went to school with a [name]Danae[/name] (well, she was a few years behind me in my little sister’s grade) for most of my life, and the name suited from her first grader days to the day she graduated. I think it’s lovely and wears well. It’s unique but not way out there, and was pretty easy for people to spell and pronounce.

I think that [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Danae[/name] would be beautiful, or why not the suggestion that meso made with [name]Karis[/name]/[name]Charis[/name], so [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Charis[/name]?
