I’ve never really considered the name [name_f]Greer[/name_f] before, but I’ve seen it cropping up a fair amount lately, and it’s making me wonder about adding it to my list.
It definitely fits into my 'unusual, trendy, boyish/unisex" style, and it also holds a really cool Old-Hollywood connection (via [name_f]Greer[/name_f] [name_m]Garson[/name_m]) which I’m definitely drawn to.
In 2016, [name_f]Greer[/name_f] was only used on 98 baby girls (around the same popularity level as Lakelyn, Irelynn, [name_f]Brittney[/name_f] and [name_f]Gaia[/name_f]), so it’s still relatively unheard of. Popularity doesn’t bother me too much, but I do find myself drawn to names more easily if they’re less popular.
What are your thoughts on the name [name_f]Greer[/name_f]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s usable?
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Greer[/name_f]. To me it’s sleek, sophisticated and classic Hollywood. My husband thinks it sounds harsh and ugly. I think it’s one of those names you love or hate.
Seconding this! I associate it with the beautiful [name_f]Greer[/name_f] [name_m]Garson[/name_m]. It’s never been a favorite of mine but I like to see it being used.
[name_f]Greer[/name_f] is a favorite, for boys & girls. I like it’s masculinity, which is why many dislike it for girls. It’s not a name you’ll get much love for
I think [name_f]Greer[/name_f] is one of those names that people either love or hate xD I personally love it. I think it’s interesting and sophisticated at the same time.
I love [name_f]Greer[/name_f], but it was pointed out to me recently that [name_f]Greer[/name_f] sound a lot like Gruyere! There are worse associations, but I do think it’s a downside to the name.
I adore [name_f]Greer[/name_f]. I think it is so sophisticated and sleek.
I think it would be such a dynamic name for a woman.
Although, I do agree that it is polarizing. My husband takes the opinion that it is harsh and rhymes with “queer”. Sigh. I can’t disagree, but there is something about it that I find really appealing.
I love it! It has the [name_f]Greer[/name_f] [name_m]Garson[/name_m] association going for it, she wouldn’t be one of three or four Greers in class, and it’s easy to spell.
I run in to girls named [name_u]Hunter[/name_u], [name_u]Reagan[/name_u] (ray-gun is what I think of), … so [name_f]Greer[/name_f] is a much more likable name, [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
This one definitely seems polarizing. I love it! We have a good family friend whose last name is [name_f]Greer[/name_f]. Everyone calls him by his last name, and I always thought it was very cool.
[name_m]Even[/name_m] though [name_f]Greer[/name_f] isn’t particularly my style, I really like it. I think it’s a great name, especially if you want a more unisex style without going too masculine. I think it’s really fresh and fun.
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Greer[/name_f]. If I were to break my no-unisex rule, it quite possibly would be on [name_f]Greer[/name_f] (or [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] or [name_u]Hadley[/name_u]!)–I think she’s delightful! Although I’d probably spell it [name_f]Grier[/name_f], because I like it better, for some reason. I would love to see [name_f]Greer[/name_f] on your list, [name_u]Haley[/name_u]! She’s really lovely. I love the idea of [name_f]Greer[/name_f] [name_f]Emma[/name_f] or [name_f]Greer[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], personally, but there is a [name_u]Berry[/name_u] who named her daughter [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Grier[/name_f] (or [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Greer[/name_f]? I can’t remember which spelling she used!), which I am in love with to this day.
(I’ve noticed quite a few Berries seem to dislike it, and I really don’t know why that is–I mean, I’ve heard their reasoning, but I guess it’s much like the people who don’t like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] because of “violent” or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] because of “harlot”, but my reaction to [name_f]Grier[/name_f] is so completely opposite that it just blows my mind lol! [name_f]Greer[/name_f] would be a [name_f]LOVELY[/name_f] addition to your list, and I hope you do use it!)
I find it hard to say [name_f]Greer[/name_f] without sounding like a pirate. It’s a lot of rrs.
Probably just my accent.
I can see both sides of the argument. It does have that sophisticated 1940’s androgynous sound, like [name_u]Wallis[/name_u] or [name_u]Merle[/name_u].
But it also sounds a bit like dreary or eerie or gear.
It would be hard to get a middle to match without it sounding like Brer Rabbit or something.
Maybe something unisex like [name_f]Greer[/name_f] [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] would work.
