Greige?

I was reading what I think is the most recent Vogue (the one with [name]Anne[/name] Hathaway on the cover) and I saw a little blurb about the color greige. This is the first I’ve heard of it, but evidently it’s a mixture of grey and beige and is one of the new “it” colors in fashion. (See, e.g., Celeb Watch...Greige Nails; http://www.wmagazine.com/beauty/2010/05/greige).

This struck me as a potential name for a girl . . . I don’t know if it’s my style exactly, but it seems like something somebody might like. What do you think?

I guess anyone can see a potential name with any “fashionable " word that suddenly comes into existence but I really wonder about people’s sanity if they think [name]GREIGE[/name] is a usuable name that they would choose for a human being - male or female. As with any other"fashion”, it will probably be outdated by next season. Enough said.

I have to say, I am usually a fan of colors for names. I love [name]Violet[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name], [name]Sapphire[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], etc. But, even upon first glance, I couldn’t stand the sight or sound of [name]Greige[/name]. I’m sorry but I think it is atrocious.

At first I thought [name]Greige[/name] was a yooneek spelling of [name]Greg[/name]. I much prefer [name]Grace[/name], [name]Greer[/name], or even [name]Grey[/name] to [name]Greige[/name] for a little girl.

Okay, that was not how I thought that was pronounced, but now that you say gray + beige, I get it. But, here’s the thing: Usually, color names ([name]Violet[/name], [name]Scarlet[/name], even [name]Blue[/name]) are vibrant, rich colors. [name]Greige[/name] is just, well, greige. I’m having a really, really hard time picturing gray and beige mixing to be an attractive color. Yes, I can see it for nail polish or a pencil skirt, but for a child’s name? I don’t find the spelling, pronunciation, or “meaning” attractive, to be perfectly honest. “[name]Hi[/name], my name’s [name]Greige[/name]. It’s a mix of gray and beige.” I don’t even know what I would think if someone said that to me!

I realize that was a bit rude, so I’m sorry. But, in all honesty, I’d never recommend [name]Greige[/name] for a name.
