Greta

What are your opinions on the name [name]Greta[/name]? It’s a name that has been on my mind for awhile now, and I really like it! [name]Do[/name] you know a lot of people with this name? I know four people named [name]Greta[/name], but according to the SSA popularity charts it’s not all that popular…so I’m wondering if maybe it’s just one of those random things that I know a lot of girls with this name or maybe it’s more popular than I think.

Also, any middle name suggestions? I’m pretty stuck on this. The only thing I’ve really come up with is [name]Greta[/name] [name]Brielle[/name]. Thanks!

I’m not crazy about this one. Makes me think of a [name]German[/name] grandmother.

[name]Greta[/name]'s a beautiful name! I also like [name]Gretel[/name]. I prefer [name]Greta[/name] as a nickname for [name]Margaret[/name] but it stands alone nicely as well. [name]Greta[/name] [name]Willow[/name] was the first combo to come to mind.

It’s actually very modern in Germany right now  I’m not crazy about the English pronunciation but it’s a nice name.

This is one of those few names I actually despise. I don’t know anyone with this name. It makes me think of a snarky, self-centered, rude old woman who wears loads of leopard print and gets her red lipstick all over her teeth.

I think [name]Greta[/name] is a pretty name! I taught a 6th grader named [name]Greta[/name] (college aged now) and she loved her unique name! [name]Brielle[/name] is beautiful too.

[name]Greta[/name] is cute, especially as a nn for [name]Gretchen[/name].

I love the name [name]Greta[/name]. I don’t know where you live but it’s a relatively rare name in the US (it was No# 684 in 2011 - that’s only 407 girls). I think it’s a strong name with vintage charm and a touch of exotic Scandinavian flair (actress [name]Greta[/name] [name]Garbo[/name] comes to mind). I imagine a fair-haired child with haunting eyes.

I once met a little girl named [name]Greta[/name] [name]Lily[/name] and that was it - one of the most fabulous names I had ever heard, the combo has always stuck with me. I still think [name]Greta[/name] is beautiful.

I love [name]Greta[/name]! It’s on my list! I hate [name]Brielle[/name] because it just seems VERY trendy, especially paired with [name]Greta[/name]. Usually I don’t like [name]Lily[/name] as a middle name (or at all), but the previous poster is right about [name]Greta[/name] [name]Lily[/name] being a great name. Maybe [name]Greta[/name] [name]Lillian[/name]? Another name similar-ish to [name]Greta[/name] that I’ve always been fond of is [name]Gratia[/name] pronounced [name]Gray[/name]-sha

Oh my goodness, [name]Greta[/name] [name]Lily[/name] is gorgous!! I am loving that!

That is so funny but I totally agree. I know one person with this name and she was the rudest thing to me.

I love the name [name]Greta[/name]! When I was in primary school, my teacher named her daughter [name]Greta[/name] (she must be about 18 by now!). I really don’t like the middle name [name]Brielle[/name]. It’s way too trendy to go with a classic name like [name]Greta[/name]. I’d choose a strong classic name like…

[name]Greta[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Katherine[/name]

[name]Greta[/name] is so cute! [name]Greta[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] is really pretty. [name]Greta[/name] [name]Cate[/name]…swoon.

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Greta[/name]! I think it is sweet, strong, spunky, and original all at once. I don’t the [name]Greta[/name] hate going on. I have actually only met 2 [name]Greta[/name]'s before. I went to high school with one and the other was elderly. Here are some combos I like:

[name]Greta[/name] [name]Camille[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] (second pp suggestion! This is gorgeous)
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]

I love [name]Greta[/name], I named my 4.5 year old [name]Greta[/name]. I still love it, but it has gotten much more negative feedback in real life than I anticipated. Some criticize that it is “old ladyish”, “fresh off the farm”, “harsh and crusty”, “really ugly”, I have heard it all. But honestly, I still love the name. I know two baby [name]Greta[/name]'s born this past year, so perhaps it is getting more popular. I also know a [name]Margaret[/name] who goes by [name]Greta[/name] (although at age 8, she is asking to be called [name]Maggie[/name] now).

[name]Greta[/name] is an great name! I think it sounds very modern and not at all like a [name]German[/name] grandma. I know two girls named [name]Greta[/name].

Wow that’s crazy that people have said those things to you especially after you’ve named the baby. Seems pretty rude!
Anyway, I love [name]Greta[/name] too. I’ve never met one but think it’s really a sweet name. And I don’t get harsh or ugly from it. My main association with [name]Greta[/name] is [name]Greta[/name] [name]Garbo[/name] which is an old school glamorous association to me.

I think its ok I would never use it.

I really don’t care for this name though as a nickname for [name]Margaret[/name] it wouldn’t bother me.
