I’m due in a month and we’ve been planning on naming our little girl [name]Penelope[/name], and calling her [name]Penny[/name]. With [name]Kourtney[/name] Kardashian’s new baby, I’m now hesitant, mainly because the name of their first baby, [name]Mason[/name], went up to the second most popular in th country is year. I’m not sure if that will now happen with [name]Penelope[/name], or if she’s even planning on calling her [name]Penny[/name], but I wanted to see what you all thought and get some other name options!
So…our first daughter is [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name] [name]Jean[/name], and our last name is a two syllable R name. I don’t want to do a double middle name again - I am set for the middle spot on either [name]Louise[/name], [name]Louisa[/name], or just plain [name]Lou[/name] after my uncle who passed away. My husband likes [name]Susannah[/name]/[name]Suzy[/name], and I like [name]Fiona[/name] and [name]Fern[/name]. Any other ideas? Should I just stick with [name]Penny[/name]? Or should I let the Kardashians win?
if you love [name]Penelope[/name], use it. celebrities can’t steal every baby name - [name]Mason[/name] is still popular even though he’s a kardashian, and we should be happy that not every one of them does something like [name]Apple[/name] or [name]Moon[/name] Unit. This one isn’t so out there that no one would even have used it or heard of it until a celebrity chose it. [name]Penelope[/name] is great, and if you love it, that matters a lot.
I like [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Lou[/name] or [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Fern[/name]. with the 1st name being such a (pretty) mouthful, it seems like something short fits best in the middle
I posted about this same thread on [name]Monday[/name], since we are using [name]Penelope[/name] as well. And, we have come to the conclusion to use the name. These are the main reasons, so I hope this helps you be put at ease
[name]Penelope[/name] will never be as popular as [name]Mason[/name] ([name]Mason[/name] started at 30 when Kardashian used it), and [name]Penelope[/name] is in the 160’s. It will not be a top 10 name just because of a Kardashian.
Obviously all of us are really into names, but many people aren’t and will not even know that [name]Kourtney[/name] used the name, much less who the Kardashians are.
Kardashians fame will be over soon. I would be more upset if [name]Angelina[/name] [name]Jolie[/name] used a name ([name]Shiloh[/name] for example) because I feel like that name is always associated with that family. [name]Penelope[/name] is not always going to be associated as a Kardashian name. Their 10 minutes of fame will eventually be over, and when our little Penelopes hit school age, they will should be off TV by then (one can hope right).
If it is the name you love, use it. You will regret it if you don’t.
[name]Hope[/name] this helps! I will tell you I was very upset as well on [name]Monday[/name], and it took some help from the berries to take me off the anger edge, so I hope this helps you as well.
If you love [name]Penelope[/name], don’t worry about the Kardashians using it. When I heard the name, the only thing I thought was “interesting that she didn’t use a K name.” I think you should still go for it!
I think if popularity is a concern you should go with [name]Fern[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] or [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Lou[/name] maybe. The name is obviously going to rise…it will either be common or it will be “oh like [name]Mason[/name]'s sister?” I was due when [name]Beyonce[/name] was and I was afraid she would use what we were thinking of…luckily no! I just knew it would annoy me & make me stop loving our name if all we ever heard was “oh like [name]Beyonce[/name] & Js baby!”
Distinctiveness is important to most namers and I think this name will be the next [name]Olivia[/name].
I’ve said these before, but don’t give up on [name]Penelope[/name]. The Kardashians are not going to make much of a difference and it’s an adorable classic. I love [name]Penny[/name].
As for your alternatives, I love [name]Susannah[/name] but really don’t like [name]Fern[/name] at all. But if [name]Penelope[/name] is your favorite USE IT!!
Well, I am a HUGE fan of [name]Susannah[/name]!! But I do really like [name]Penelope[/name]!! I don’t see [name]Penelope[/name] rising in the charts the way [name]Mason[/name] did… simply b/c [name]Penelope[/name] has an old world sophistication that in my opinion appeals to more specific people, rather than [name]Mason[/name]'s more “pop culture” appeal. Sure it may rise a few numbers on the charts. but I don’t think your child would be one of several in her class.
If your heart is set on a little [name]Penny[/name], stick with it!
[name]Tina[/name] [name]Fey[/name] brought it to light first, I don’t think a Kardashian is going to affect it’s popularity any more than her. [name]Penelope[/name] has been and will continue to rise regardless for a little while I think.
[name]Penelope[/name] is a classic name, so I don’t think you can go wrong using it. Also, I think it sounds great with [name]Mabel[/name]. However, if you choose this name, do expect it to jump up in popularity due to KK. I’m not sure it will rise as fast as [name]Mason[/name] did, but only time will tell. Good luck and congratulations!
If it is by far your favorite and you have your heart set on it, then use it!!! I wish I had a name that I loved more than any other - I wouldn’t let popularity or a Kardashian ruin it for me.
That said, if you don’t have your heart set on it, I would choose another name. [name]Fiona[/name] and [name]Susannah[/name] are both fantastic names. They both go with [name]Mabel[/name] (a name which I love and may use for my baby due in [name]December[/name]!) [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Louise[/name] or [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Louise[/name] sound best to me.
ETA I think [name]Fiona[/name] and [name]Susannah[/name] go better with [name]Mabel[/name] than [name]Penelope[/name] too!
Yeah, part of the reason we’re even considering going a different direction is that neither of us was over-the-moon obsessed with [name]Penelope[/name]. My husband and I both really like it a lot, but it’s not like I’ve been dreaming about the name since I was twelve or anything :). [name]Do[/name] you guys have any other suggestions, aside from my list of backups, that would go well with her sister [name]Mabel[/name] and pair with [name]Lou[/name]/[name]Louise[/name]/[name]Louisa[/name] for the middle name?
