For 13 years (I think 11-23), I was obsessed with the name Asphodel (As-for-dil/dal) with the nn Asi/Asie. But one day when I was 23, I told my sister and Mum about it and they didn’t really like it so I thought I’d better leave it haha. I think I just liked how soft it sounded and how unique it was.
I’m curious to know what people on here think of Asphodel? Is it a bit weird for a name on a human? Would it be mean to name a girl this? It’s a name that I sometimes liked and other times didn’t really. Very mixed feelings. I don’t think I’d use it any more though, especially since they could get teased.
I think it sounds beautiful, almost like an ancient greek name. I don’t think she would be teased but her name would be pronounced wrong all the time which she might find annoying. As for my guilty pleasure name it’s probably Goldie. I love the name Goldie, Gigi as her nn. I wouldn’t name my child that as I don’t think it goes with any other names on my list and I’d like all of my children’s names to be in the same family. Also my boyfriend absolutely hates it and so does my family.
Lol, I can see it on a goldfish now that I think about it. If you can’t use it for one of your children, maybe you could use it for one of your pets? That’s what I plan to do with some of the names that I like since I won’t be able to use all of them unless I have about 10 children haha.
[name_f]My[/name_f] guilty pleasure name is [name_f]Pandora[/name_f]! I actually wanted to name my daughter [name_f]Pandora[/name_f], but my husband and parents absolutely hated it.
My guilty pleasures are Achilles and Quince for boys and Marianela for a girl! I like Asphodel, but I think I would personally keep it as a guilty pleasure.
[name_f]My[/name_f] guilty pleasure names are mainly nature-themed, earthly names that I probably wouldn’t give my child but I think it’s wonderful when other people do.
I like Asphodel. While I agree it is too GP for a first name, I think you could get away with it as a brave middle name.
[name_f]My[/name_f] biggest GP is [name_f]Calliope[/name_f]. It’s such a beautiful name, and while I wouldn’t be too surprised for some other people to name their kid [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], it’s too out there for me. Also [name_f]Beryl[/name_f], which started as a joke name (my partner and I joked that we would call our kids [name_u]Barry[/name_u] and Beryl) but I actually think it is cute.
[name_f]Morgana[/name_f], [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], and [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]. Maybe if I’d had more children? I feel I got braver the more I had so maybe in time
I like the name. I always though it was pronounced (Az-Fuh-Del) but I can understand your families reservations about the name because in [name_f]English[/name_f] having anything that sounds vaguely like ass is not great. I like [name_u]Aster[/name_u] and [name_f]Asteria[/name_f] and I think we should not be limited to names just because of some awkwardness of association, not all the time, but I also haven’t suffered those consequences so hard call.
I think used [name_u]Dell[/name_u], Fuddy, or [name_m]Al[/name_m] as an nickname its easier sell that Asie
