I was thinking about this today. Names we [name]LOVE[/name] but wouldn’t use… we’ve all got 'em! What are yours?
Mine are:
[name]Alexis[/name] - soooo popular but I [name]LOVE[/name] it. [name]Don[/name]'t know why, but I think it’s beautiful.
[name]Eden[/name]
[name]Hadley[/name]
[name]Maren[/name]
[name]Shannon[/name] - I love this for some reason, I know its a little dated
[name]Persephone[/name]
[name]Minerva[/name]
[name]Delilah[/name]
[name]Jezebel[/name]
[name]Jennifer[/name] (I like [name]Jenny[/name], but I think I’d be lynched for bringing another [name]Jennifer[/name] into the world)
Artremis
[name]Dinah[/name]
Boys:
[name]Calvin[/name] (may use this if I get the nerve, lol)
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Oscar[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Peter[/name]
[name]Walter[/name]
What a great idea! I have so many that I love but can’t touch.
Girls:
[name]Ella[/name] - my grandmother’s name, but too popular!
[name]Delilah[/name] - gorgeous. Unfortunately also (according to my parents), “a painted whore”
[name]Ophelia[/name] - tragedy! But a gorgeous sound.
[name]Olivia[/name] - such a pretty name, but too popular
[name]Amelia[/name] - mom used it for the cat!
[name]Julia[/name] - dad used it for the dog!
[name]Clementine[/name] - I love it, husband veto’d
[name]Annabelle[/name] - ditto
[name]Columbine[/name] - such a pretty flower, but such a horrifying event
[name]Scout[/name] - love the book, but a better nickname I think
[name]Lola[/name] - love it, but too sultry
Boys:
[name]William[/name] - already too many in our family
[name]Julian[/name] - husband thinks it’s “sissy,” though I love it
[name]Dashiell[/name] - cute, but we’re not bold enough to pull it off
[name]Atticus[/name] - husband veto’d
[name]Harrison[/name] - ditto
[name]Max[/name] - ditto
[name]Fergus[/name] - great old family name, but husband veto
[name]Elijah[/name] - love it, but we know too many babies with this name
OOoh! A few more. Being from [name]Louisiana[/name], I love French names for girls - but we’re so Anglo (I’m an Anglo-Louisianian not French, and my husband is from Midwest) that these would probably be ridiculous on our child:
Girl: [name]Amethyst[/name], I love it so much but don’t think I’ll ever use it. Too bad!!
Boy: [name]Frank[/name], I absolutely love it bu my husband says he’ll never go for it.
[name]Gracelyn[/name]-I love the pronunciation [name]Grey[/name]-SA-len rather than just [name]Grace[/name]-[name]Lynn[/name].
IF i used it, i would spell it differently…
[name]Emma[/name]-[name]Every[/name] other kid I meet…
[name]Cate[/name]-Almost everybody…? Especially since it’s a nn for cathleen, catherine, kaitlyn…
[name]Scout[/name]-Maybe a nn…FOR [name]SCARLETT[/name]
[name]Sailor[/name]-SO BAD! I know…and I wouldnt want it to be thought of like sailor…so i’d want to spell it differently WHICH MAKES IT WORSE! Seiler. Seylar. Yikes…
[name]Tinsley[/name] - my husband hates it and people think it’s weird. sigh
Avonlea - like [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables, I think this is lovely but my best friend chose it as her baby girl name and even though she’ll probably never HAVE a girl, I couldn’t steal it from her.
Sukilove, I have to tell you that I laughed at “leeloo” as it instantly reminded me of [name]Mila[/name] Jovovich in The Fifth Element. Not that I think it’s a terrible name, just the reminder of that movie was funny to me for some reason?
Also you reminded me of another guilty pleasure name: [name]Phaedra[/name]. I think it’s beautiful but maybe a little too unusual and ripe for misspelling.
Well, there are the ones that I’d love to use, but hubby won’t agree to:
[name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Isla[/name]
[name]Calla[/name] (“they’d call her [name]Calla[/name]-fornia” he says)
[name]Marlowe[/name] (might still be able to sway him on this one)
Then, there are the ones I’d love to use if I were “brave” enough (also assume that DH would agree to these, which he wouldn’t!
[name]Grier[/name]
[name]Ellis[/name]
[name]Winter[/name] (nn [name]Winnie[/name])
[name]Bronwyn[/name]
Merit
Then, the too popular ones:
[name]Emmeline[/name] (would get lost with all the other Emm-'s out there right now)
[name]Olivia[/name] (loved this before it became so popular. Sad )
