Guilty Pleasure Names

I’ve just started on the legal name change process and it’s a pain. I have to get this long list of things together, like a list of everywhere I’ve lived in the last 10 years, court documents stating my lack of a criminal record, statements of my character, etc. I’d say if you want to have it done by a deadline (starting college) get started sooner rather than later. It might not take all that long once I’ve got the proper paperwork, but I’m having a lawyer prepare everything and then I’m self-filing and representing myself at the hearing. THEN I have to go around and change it on my SS card, driver’s license, etc. Seems like a lot of hassle, but something I’ve been thinking about doing for far too long.

I’ve always had a crush on [name]Thessaly[/name], [name]Reverie[/name], and [name]Valencia[/name]. My husband likes Meridian, but in theory only.
For boys, I think [name]Conrad[/name] is such a cool name, but it would stick out like a sore thumb where I live. Might use it anyway. Bah.

[name]Sophia[/name] (too popular)
[name]Anabel[/name] (doesn’t go with OH’s surname)
[name]Gretchen[/name] (my mum says it sounds like “retching” and now I can’t not hear that when I say it!)
[name]Finley[/name] (again, doesn’t go with OH’s surname and it’s too popular)

I’m sure there’s probably some more I haven’t thought of.

I used to work with a [name]Valencia[/name]. It sounds pretty but all I can think of is oranges.

[name]Indigo[/name] and [name]Shadow[/name] for a boy. Think they’re awesome but definitely not my style for most names! If I could get my boyfriend on board with [name]Ezra[/name], I would be tempted to use it though it’d be VERY unexpected for our relatives.
For girls a lot of the ornate words (frilly or over three syllables, like [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Lorelei[/name]) would be gp for me, but I’m not sure I like how well some of them age. (Actually I think [name]Lorelei[/name] ages well… [name]Annabelle[/name]/[name]Annabel[/name] would be more childlike)
[name]Clementine[/name] is in the family tree but i don’t think I’d really have the guts to use it. Maybe as a middle.
I love the Irish girl name cloddagh (clo-da), but can’t imagine using it and he thinks it sounds like a clotting medicine. Grrrrr.
Same, love aoife (ee-fa) but because of the spelling and the fact that my two best friends are married to irishmen and will be using irish names, and I’m with an American, so it’d be weird.

Boys -
[name]Arizona[/name]
[name]Atticus[/name]
[name]Beau[/name]
[name]Cloud[/name]
[name]Everett[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]Sonny[/name]

Girls -
Airelie
Alaska
[name]Anya[/name]
[name]Brighton[/name]
[name]Dacey[/name]
[name]Logan[/name]
Lynia
[name]Soleil[/name]

For a boy: [name]Rory[/name]. Not sure why. Totally unusable because my husband has negative associations with it, but I think it’s great.

For a girl: [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name], and [name]Daisy[/name]. All were vetoed immediately by my better half. :stuck_out_tongue:

I would use any of my guilty pleasures because my naming style is obscure. They are guilty pleasures because we won’t be having any more children

[name]Saskia[/name] [name]Gretchen[/name], [name]Lael[/name] [name]India[/name], [name]Sorcha[/name] [name]Guinevere[/name], [name]Aquinnah[/name] [name]Cagney[/name], [name]Ever[/name] [name]Crimson[/name], [name]Signe[/name] Katriel
[name]Rourke[/name] Langford, [name]Granger[/name] [name]Callahan[/name], [name]Jessup[/name] [name]Maverick[/name]

Guilty pleasures are just actual name loves. I don’t see anything wrong with using them as long as you love them.

[name]Philomena[/name]
[name]Marguerita[/name]
[name]Francine[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Colletta[/name]
Anastaisia

Boys
Meriwether (no good nn)
[name]Leopold[/name]
[name]Peyton[/name]
[name]Ashley[/name]

Girls
[name]Ursula[/name]
[name]Astrid[/name]
[name]Olya[/name]

Still holding out for most of them, hoping that either my husband changes his mind completely or will at least let me use them for the mn spot.

[name]Summer[/name]. I love it, but it’s just so not my style.

I also love [name]Cinderella[/name] but would be nuts to name a child that!

[name]Wilhelmina[/name], [name]Philomena[/name], [name]Theodora[/name] etc I love but know I’ll absolutely never get to use.

[name]Zipporah[/name]
Lauralin
[name]Berlin[/name]
[name]Isis[/name]
[name]Jetta[/name]
[name]Raleigh[/name]
Mailee
[name]Soraya[/name]
[name]Sonnet[/name]
[name]Abia[/name]
[name]Matisse[/name]

Girls…

[name]Hannah[/name]- sweet but past it’s peak, yet I still love it
[name]Sunday[/name] [name]Rose[/name]- I think this combo is so gorgeous, but for obvious reasons I wouldn’t use it
[name]Mireille[/name]- [name]LOVE[/name] this name but it would seem a tad pretentious/ridiculous in my area
[name]Ava[/name]- SO popular to the point if trendy, but I still think its beautiful

Boys…

[name]Rudolph[/name]- absolutely love this name, if it weren’t for the reindeer I would use it, I’ve considered using it anyways…
[name]Casper[/name]- the friendly ghost. But I still love it
[name]Ashley[/name]- gone to girls, but I might just have to reclaim it, I think it’s dashing and romantic on a guy. While over-used for girls…
Ollivander- very Harry Potter but I love it

I know a little girl name [name]Cinderella[/name]! I’ve always found it kind of ridiculous, but kind of cute at the same time

My main one is just the combo [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m] [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]. I’m sure it’s pretty obvious which one is being replaced.

Most of my guilty pleasure names are random place or airport names, or random words, e.g:
[name_f]Amalfi[/name_f], Bellagio, Heathrow, Ampersand, Innisfree for boys
Anthology, Paprika, Liguria, [name_f]Scotia[/name_f], [name_f]Malta[/name_f] for girls
and many more in the same vein…

The few actual names I couldn’t use due to unpleasant associations:
[name_m]Bruce[/name_m] ([name_m]Robert[/name_m] the [name_m]Bruce[/name_m]- I love [name_f]England[/name_f] and want to move there someday, so that probably wouldn’t work)
[name_m]Napoleon[/name_m]
[name_u]Willoughby[/name_u] (the S&S character was a huge cad)

I love the idea of twins named [name_m]Prospero[/name_m] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Valentino[/name_m], but even I think that’s a bit [name_m]OTT[/name_m] and I almost never think that. I could imagine it on a handsome, charming and debonair Italian movie star or something like that, but not on a regular person… I love it even more as a twin for [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m] [name_m]Luciano[/name_m] Petrarch, which might be usable, haven’t decided :stuck_out_tongue: but together it’s waaay too much even for me.

[name_m]Sherlock[/name_m]. I just love the name [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m]. I’ve been a fan of the books for years, ever since I started reading them in middle school. Maybe as a middle name? I’ve also thought of using the name [name_m]Lock[/name_m] (or [name_m]Loch[/name_m]) instead.

I can’t remember who it was, but another user posted the [name_m]French[/name_m] word Ameliore (ah-may-lee-ore), which I believe she said was a derivative of the verb “to improve”. That’s been firmly on my GP list since the moment I read it…so pretty!

[name_u]Ever[/name_u] & [name_u]Wren[/name_u] are two of my favorite names for a girl, but do not work with my SN.

Others that I love but wouldn’t use: [name_f]Meadow[/name_f], [name_m]Berlin[/name_m], Breslin, [name_u]Connelly[/name_u], Leisel, [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u], [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]

For boys: [name_m]Beckham[/name_m], [name_m]Gunnar[/name_m], [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] (I would use [name_m]Gunnar[/name_m] and [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] as a MN…if I wasn’t so adamant about using names that honor someone, anyways)

These are names that I can’t imagine working on a child in Australia (i.e., others would find them too strange or be tempted to tease the child for) or that others have openly told me are “terrible names - you can’t do that to a child!”, etc.! Some of them are names I personally feel are too clunky, too heavy or too much for a child to bear. A couple of the names are too popular for me to use. Some of the girls’ names are too masculine for me to actually use.
