So I recently posted my baby girl name list, and today I found another name to add to it. It’s of celtic origin, the name is… [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]! I oddly like it. How would you pronounce it and what nicknames would you think of associating it with?
Originally it’s pronounced [name_u]Gwin[/name_u]-e-veer
It means white wave and is heavily associated with Arthurian legend. I went to [name_f]Tintagel[/name_f] in Cornwall last month where the legend is meant to have originated, there is something so magical about it. [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is one of those beautiful names which conjures up magical, mythical imagery for me
I’d pronounce it [name_u]Gwin[/name_u]-uh-veer and I’d consider the nicknames [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], [name_f]Ginny[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivie[/name_f].
Guinevere is my favorite girl name ever. I super love my pets’ names, [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] & [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]. And if I ever had a human child, I’d name her [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] after my dad, [name_m]David[/name_m]. But [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] has been my top favorite no wavering since about 2001. I heard first heard it in a Death [name_m]Cab[/name_m] for Cutie song, & fell instantly in love. I’ve been a name nerd since middle school. It’s just so bold, feminine, romantic, old fashioned & unique. I say it [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]-uh-veer. The nns [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] or [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] could work, but I don’t know. I like them both, but just not for me since [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] on its own is so special. The nn [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] is kind of cute too.
