Guinevere

Miss [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] has been on my mind a lot today. It’s a variant of my almost name, so reminds me of my parents in a special way, and there was also a really special [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] in a story I loved growing up, she was a cuddly grandma figure who fought valiantly for those in need, was a brilliant academic in her youth and loved literature, especially C.S. [name_m]Lewis[/name_m], [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m], and GK Chesterton…. She was spirited and kind and wise, which is exactly how [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] feels to me.

I also love her plethora of nicknames, and also the option of pairing her with an A first name to honor my grandma (whose initials were AG), though I’m not 100% committed to where I’d use her at this point. I do realize the most common connection is [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and I know that most may think of the unsavory bits of her story.

I would love to know your thoughts on her (especially her usability), and whether you’d prefer her as a middle or a first. I would love to know your favorite A first names with [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] if you prefer her as a middle!

Thanks berries!

I almost think she needs to be a middle but that’s my opinion. If she was a first, though, Nev/Nevi or [name_m]Vere[/name_m] would be cute nicknames I think.

For A names, maybe [name_f]Annette[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], [name_f]Ailish[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] or [name_f]Aloysia[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f].

I think she is lovely as a first or as a middle. Something a little spunky for a first, I would say to balance the romance of [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f].

I know someone named [name_f]Odessa[/name_f] Guinevere!! Talk about beautiful AND dramatic!
I LOVE [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]! I love a super romantic name and I think there’s so much significance to this one. I think she’d work as either a first or middle name but I prefer her in the middle.
I especially love nicknames [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] or [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]!

Suggestions:
[name_f]Alys[/name_f] / [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Avery[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
And, I went back and forth with this one, but I think I really like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]

[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is really fun and I do also love the nicknames!! The idea of doing an A first name to honor your grandma is very sweet so I think [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is perfect for the middle spot!

[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is stunning, and I love the idea of her as a first name, but recognize that she may feel much more usable as a middle. I do think of the Arthurian character, but more in a “this name makes me picture an elegant medieval lady” kind of way (i.e. I do not particularly think about the more unsavoury parts of her story).

That being said, pairing her with an A first name to honour your grandmother would be really sweet!

[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is sharp and interesting with a mystical sound - it’s bold without being over the top. I don’t mind it, though my brain does go to guinea pigs when I see the first syllable  Not a bad thing and probably just a me thing too. I think of the [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] in BBC [name_m]Merlin[/name_m], in which the unsavoury parts of her character were reframed - so maybe that’s why they don’t bother me so much?

I think it could work in either place though your uncertainty suggests it might be better in the middle spot for you?

[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] [name_f]Maria[/name_f] perhaps

[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is beyond beautiful!

Such a gorgeous name that feels ethereal, elegant, rich in history and romance. I think [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is perfectly usable as both a first and middle name choice partly helped by the sweet nicknames such as [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Neve[/name_f] & [name_f]Evie[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] SO MUCH! It is actually my niece’s name - we call her Guinny for short. So perhaps I am biased, but I think it is perfectly usable! And it definitely deserves to be a first name!

[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is my favorite girl! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:  She’s been on the top of my list for 20+ years without wavering. I suppose [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is my realistic usable #1, because it honors my dad, [name_m]David[/name_m], but [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is still very very special. It’s just the perfect balance of sweet, feminine, strong & elegant. [name_m]Classic[/name_m], well known, not at all common…all of the good stuff!

Here are a few AG combos for you…

@cms1512 - thanks girl! I was originally thinking just middle but [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] up front has been really growing on me! She’s stunning and I love the nns [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], [name_f]Neve[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], or even [name_f]Vivi[/name_f]! I think an [name_f]Anne[/name_f] name with [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is lovely; I’ve been thinking about [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] nn [name_f]Anya[/name_f] the more she’s sat with me.

@victory55 - thank you! I already have [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] on my list, [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is nice though. I especially like [name_f]Aya[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]! I can’t really see me with an [name_f]Aya[/name_f], but I love [name_f]Aya[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]!

@jasminew - wow, [name_f]Odessa[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is definitely beautiful and dramatic! What a name! I love [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] as well! [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is STUNNING. I absolutely adore it… but I don’t know that I’m ready to give up on my current [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] combo. I have loved [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] for so long. But if I do, you’ll have to remind me of [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] hahahahaha.

@user10 - thank you! [name_f]Antoinette[/name_f] and [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] feel like perfect pairings… just feels a little too long. I’m loving the [name_f]Annie[/name_f] names with [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], though - told someone else, but I’m really wondering about [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] nn [name_f]Anya[/name_f]!

@Demoiselle - thanks girl! that does help to know that not everyone thinks of the negative bits of her story. I am slowly working my way through a collection of [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] stories and I’m loving it, but I haven’t gotten to Guinevere’s negative parts of her story… I’ve heard rumors of what it could be, but because of that, not too sure how unusable that really makes her? Good to know that doesn’t put you off.

@Greyblue - thanks lady! Ya know, I was worried that your guinea pig thing was going to bother me but I’d completely forgotten about it until I just now reread your comment  I don’t think that’ll deter me. And that’s good! One day I’ll finish my [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] book, and I’ll know how much that puts me off, but for now the other [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is just making her feel lovely + the [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] stories which I’ve loved so far. I’m still feeling her out tbh, I usually on principle refuse to use a name from classic literature until I’ve read the novel with said name… which is why [name_m]Aramis[/name_m] is not on my list yet lol. I love your ideas of [name_f]Alba[/name_f] and [name_f]Anya[/name_f] with [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] - I’m rather enjoying [name_f]Anna[/name_f] lately and like the idea of [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] nn [name_f]Anya[/name_f] a lot. LOVE [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] which I bet you know but [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is a LOT of name lol.

@tori101 - thanks girl! Yes, I agree the nns for [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] are beyond lovely! I did think of [name_f]Anouk[/name_f] with [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] but think I prefer [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] [name_f]Anouk[/name_f]? I like [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] and [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] [name_f]Zadie[/name_f] a lot too!

@_thelittlefairywren - aww thank you! So glad you love it so well, and what a lucky little girl your niece is! I have been leaning toward [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], or maybe [name_f]Neve[/name_f], since [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] “Eva” and [name_f]Vera[/name_f] are both in my top 5, but I agree [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] has fabulous nicknames.

@michellem - thank you! [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is a great name, isn’t she? [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] would be great, but I can’t get into [name_f]Ada[/name_f], much as I love so many other [name_f]Addy[/name_f] names. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] feels made for [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], but I don’t know that I can see me with an [name_f]Alice[/name_f]? [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f], maybe?

@ashthedreamer Originally, her nickname was [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], but there a lot of questioning / confusion because they used the [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] spelling, not [name_f]Gwenevere[/name_f], so her nickname became [name_m]Guin[/name_m] instead to keep the root the same.

love that!!

I think [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is a beautiful name, but would also be a lot to wear. I would put her in the middle for that reason. You’ve had lots of lovely A suggestions so far, and I think it’s down to personal choice and feel for combinations most of the time.

Personally, because [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is heavy and rich to me, I’d feel compelled to pair her with a sweeter, lighter name, but something that still has history and substance so as to not clash too much. Anna/Annie [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is a great call.

[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is gorgeous. If it were me I would use it as a first name, with [name_m]Gwyn[/name_m] as her nickname. She works well as a middle too, though.

[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]

I think she’s much better as a middle personally. I do love your AG idea! For a names, here would be my ideas. Take any repeats as agreeing with the berries lol.
[name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Alessandra[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Antonina[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Ann[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Avery[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Avie[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Amy[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Amarantha[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]

That makes sense! tbh I’m struggling with which nickname I’d like - I’ve always leaned toward Eva/Eve/Neve or [name_f]Vera[/name_f] as my favorite nicknames for her, but wouldn’t really want her to replace [name_f]Vera[/name_f] or [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] on my list, too. Maybe she’s too similar to them to use alongside? I’m also trying to decide how much I like [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] or [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]. I am a big [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] fan, just never really thought I’d call a [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] “Winnie”.

@katoolah - yeah, [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is breathtaking! I think one other berry suggested her. I have a combo (Audrey [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] Jane) I’ve loved for a long time, but I’m sort of wondering if [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] would replace her. I do like [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] “Anya” a lot too, but I think I might like [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] more. Still tossing it over, but I’m leaning more toward replacing my [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] combo… or using [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] up front.

@DCAT - thank you! I realy like [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] and [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] together, [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] would honor my other grandmother. I don’t really want to use [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] up front, but maybe [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] could be an option. Really like [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], too, but [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] is a very beloved first name on my list. I don’t love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], but I could see [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] [name_f]Lux[/name_f] or [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] ______ [name_f]Lux[/name_f], maybe! I’ve been wanting to add [name_f]Lux[/name_f] to my list for a while.

@em73 - thank you! I can understand that, I don’t think [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is for everyone. I do think she could fit very well with some of the longer, more elaborate names on my list (like [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], etc.), though! I’m still weighing out what I think. I do like [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] a lot, I thought about [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] but I am not sure I want [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], AND [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] on my list. [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is a nice name, though! Also love [name_f]Antonina[/name_f], wish she didn’t feel so over the top with [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]. Same with [name_f]Alessandra[/name_f].

@ashthedreamer I don’t think [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], and [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] are too similar to use together. If I wasn’t going to use them together it’d be because I see them as too different from each other to be a cohesive set.

Honestly, even if [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is a bit of a stretch, I’d use it because it’s so cute haha

haha it is! Still feeling her out, I’m still really loving [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] as a first or [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] for my grandma. I guess we’ll see with time which one settles into my heart.
