After discussing things with my husband, I decided that if I could get off the combo Ivy Gwendolyn, I might use both Ivy and Gwen separately.
I feel like Ivy and Gwen (last name Langdon) are both neat, professional names that are feminine (and adorable, in my opinion) while working for an adult in a professional setting.
The problem is the middle names. I could just do Ivy Lyn, but Gwen Lyn sounds pretty bad. About three generations back, my family started doing Lyn as middle names for girls. So using Gwendolyn does make sense in that way, and I think I could talk my husband into Gwendolyn (nn Gwen) even though he finds it a bit excessive (and frankly, so do I).
I’m considering Ivy Lyn and Gwendolyn with a short middle name. I don’t particularly love Ivy Lyn as I fell in love with Ivy Gwendolyn as being the perfect name … but I love Gwen so much that not using it as a first name does seem like a shame.
I could always do Ivy Madelyn and Gwen Evelyn/Gwendolyn Maeve (or something along those lines). I don’t love Madelyn, but that would make my husband happy (he doesn’t like Madeline/Madeleine, but Madelyn is right up his alley).
The main reason I don’t like Ivy Lyn by itself is because I feel like it’s super brief and heavy on the Ys. Which is why Ivy Gwendolyn was kind of the perfect combo!
A couple questions:
- What do you think of Ivy Madelyn or Gwen Evelyn? What middle names would you give siblings Ivy and Gwen/dolyn? Especially including that Lyn in a traditional-ish manner (e.g. not Ainslyn)?
- Further sibling names for Ivy and Gwen? Particularly, what do you think of Lillian “Lili,” Kathleen “Kit/Katie”, or Emilia “Millie”? What other names should I suggest?
I think [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_u]Lyn[/name_u] actually sounds ok!
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] [name_u]Lyn[/name_u] is too choppy. [name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] [name_f]Lynette[/name_f]?
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] are on my list too, they’re great as sisters
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_u]Alma[/name_u]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Dita[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f]
[name_f]Mara[/name_f]

Thank you! I unfortunately am not a huge [name_f]Lynette[/name_f] fan as it sounds somewhat dated to me. But I might just work around it with [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] or [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Bae[/name_f].
And thank you for those suggestions! [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], especially, I can see myself using.
Honestly if you are thinking [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_u]Lyn[/name_u] then I would completely avoid [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] for [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] since audibly in my ear [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_u]Lyn[/name_u] comes off as a broken up version of [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u].
I do think the two combos you have work. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u].
Seeing your other brainstorming I’d suggest some mix and matches of [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] with sisters [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f].

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] are both beautiful!!
[name_f]Adelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Gracelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Emmalyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Ellyn[/name_f] came to mind
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and…
[name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Alba[/name_f], [name_f]Rosa[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] work!!

Thank you so much!
[name_f]Adelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Gracelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Emmalyn[/name_f] (I’ve thought about [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f] in the past, too), and [name_f]Ellyn[/name_f] are all gorgeous additions as middle names!
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] is starting to grow on me, though I’m not sure I love [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] … I agree that [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_u]Lyn[/name_u] and [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] are similar, though I’m not sure if that is necessarily a con for me. I had matching names with my sisters (two-syllable names with middle name [name_u]Lyn[/name_u], so [name_u]Robin[/name_u] [name_u]Lyn[/name_u], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_u]Lyn[/name_u], and [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] Lyn), and I loved it. But [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_u]Lyn[/name_u] and [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] would be too much - [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_u]Lyn[/name_u] and [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_u]Lyn[/name_u], basically.
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] is such a gorgeous combo! And [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] would work, too, though when I say it, I know my family will go, “Gwen Lilli-Lyn?”
I’m going to suggest [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Rosa[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and something Ad-variant (maybe not [name_f]Ada[/name_f], but I’m writing it down). [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] are still on the list.
