Gwen et al

What are your thoughts on [name]Gwen[/name]? Can it stand on it’s own? Which of these longer versions of this name do you prefer [name]Gwenda[/name], [name]Gwendolen[/name]/[name]Gwendolyn[/name], [name]Gwyneth[/name]/[name]Gwenyth[/name] or [name]Guinevere[/name]?

I think so, I prefer [name]Gwendolen[/name]/[name]Gwendolyn[/name] myself though.

I think [name]Gwen[/name] can stand on its own and is a nice name. I don’t get really excited about it, but I think it’s pretty. I like [name]Gwendolen[/name] more, but only because I want to use the nickname [name]Winnie[/name].

I like [name]Gwendolen[/name] the most and would actually consider using it but I have a cat named [name]Gwenevere[/name].

I think [name]Gwen[/name] can stand on its own, but I prefer the options of a longer name. [name]Gwendolyn[/name]/[name]Gwendolen[/name] is my favorite, followed by [name]Gwenore[/name] (which isn’t on your list). The others don’t really appeal to me, sorry.

I’ve wondered this before too-- I love [name]Gwen[/name], but don’t love [name]Gwendolen[/name] and [name]Gwyneth[/name] seems like a stretch to get to [name]Gwen[/name] (shouldn’t it be [name]Gwyn[/name] when shortened?) [name]Gwenda[/name] sounds like “[name]Glenda[/name]” pronounced like a small child… I’ve never heard that before! Then I always end up thinking well, I like Genieveve… but that doesn’t get me to [name]Gwen[/name] either. All that being said, if it was me, I’d use [name]Gwen[/name] with a more substantial mn or learn to love [name]Gwendolen[/name].

Good luck!

[name]Gwen[/name] is sweet and quietly charming. Absolutely a stand-alone.

However, I have a major name crush on [name]Gwyneth[/name].

I love most of the [name]Gwen[/name] names, but none more than [name]Gwen[/name] alone.

I love [name]Gwen[/name] and it can definitely stand on its own, but I adore [name]Guinevere[/name]. That’s definitely my favourite [name]Gwen[/name] name, but I also love [name]Gwyneth[/name] and [name]Gwyneira[/name], which you don’t have on your list. [name]Gwendolen[/name] is gorgeous, too.

I’ve had such a crush on [name]Gwendolen[/name] (this spelling only!) recently, after reading [name]George[/name] [name]Eliot[/name]'s [name]Daniel[/name] Deronda. [name]Guinevere[/name] is also pretty. I’m not a fan of other [name]Gwen[/name] choices, especially just [name]Gwen[/name] as it seems too nicknamey.

I always really want to like [name]Gwen[/name] and [name]Gwendolyn[/name] but something holds me back and I’m not sure what. I do think [name]Gwen[/name] could probably stand on it’s own, though, if you really don’t love any of the longer forms. I think I’m attracted to the romantic feel that these names have but can’t see myself actually using them.

Well, I was born [name]Gwendolyn[/name] so I think its a pretty good name. I go by [name]Gwen[/name] most of the time, but I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone else with this name, which is kind of neat [name]IMO[/name].

I’m also a [name]Gwendolyn[/name]-who-goes-by-[name]Gwen[/name], and I adore my nn but find “[name]Gwendolyn[/name]” kind of annoying. At the same time, it’s kind of nice to have the option.

Of the longer names, I like the “[name]Gwendolen[/name]” spelling and have always been partial to [name]Guinevere[/name].

I like just [name]Gwen[/name]. It’s my mom’s middle name and [name]IMO[/name] underused.

I also like [name]Gwendolen[/name] and [name]Gwyneira[/name].

I don’t like [name]Guinevere[/name] because I don’t like the Arthurian character too much. I would like [name]Gwyneth[/name]/[name]Gwenyth[/name] except I worry people will think I’m naming after Paltrow, who I do not like much at all.

I like them all, including [name]Gwenna[/name], [name]Gwendoline[/name] and [name]Gwyneira[/name]. [name]Just[/name] [name]Gwen[/name] does seem too nickname, for me. I would use [name]Gwendolen[/name] or [name]Guinevere[/name] in a heartbeat, but I probably won’t because they’re so perfect as middle names for my favorites.

I’m loving [name]Gwendolen[/name] - it’s on my “futures” list - but I definitely think [name]Gwen[/name] can stand alone. [name]Just[/name] like [name]Tess[/name] can! I think [name]Gwendolen[/name], [name]Gwyneth[/name], and [name]Guinevere[/name] all have their own charms. Not a fan of [name]Gwenda[/name], though. It really depends on what other names you like, I think. I mean, I see [name]Gwendolen[/name] with names like [name]Rosanna[/name], [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Georgina[/name], and [name]Christabel[/name]; [name]Gwyneth[/name] with names like [name]Eveline[/name], [name]Sigrid[/name], [name]Leona[/name], and [name]Adair[/name]; and [name]Guinevere[/name] with names like [name]Elspeth[/name], [name]Isabeau[/name], [name]Rowena[/name], and [name]Finola[/name].

I strongly dislike all the GW- names. I just think it’s an ugly sound. Sorry. :frowning:
