Gwen

This past [name_u]June[/name_u] we named our son [name_u]Owen[/name_u] so now my question is, do I have to take [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] off of my top five list? Yes they look alike but to me they don’t sound too similar. What are your thoughts?
Who knows if we’ll have a girl in the future but [name_u]Owen[/name_u] will definitely have siblings so I’m wondering if I should just give up on my love of [name_f]Gwen[/name_f].

Any suggestions on names similar to [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]? We already have a [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] in the family (husband’s cousin used this).

I think they’re too similar. After all, the only difference between [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_u]Owen[/name_u] is one letter! What about [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] or [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]?

I agree. I love [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] though. I have [name_f]Gwenna[/name_f] at the top of my list. You could go with [name_u]Gwynn[/name_u] spelling (sounds more like [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]).

I don’t think they’re too close… if you’re looking for something similar, but not so close to [name_u]Owen[/name_u], there are a lot of beautiful Welsh names:
[name_f]Briallen[/name_f]
[name_f]Brynne[/name_f]
[name_f]Catrin[/name_f]
[name_u]Emlyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Megan[/name_f]
[name_f]Mairwen[/name_f]
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u]
Rhiann
[name_u]Seren[/name_u]
[name_f]Tarren[/name_f]

I agree that [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_u]Owen[/name_u] look much too similar–the sound isn’t quite so bad, but I think having a longer name (like [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f], [name_f]Gwenore[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendoline[/name_f], [name_f]Gwyneira[/name_f], Gwenllian, etc.) with the nn [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] would be much better. I think [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and [name_f]Gwenore[/name_f] “[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]” or [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] “[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]” would be just fine.

Good luck!

I think you should just keep [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] because you like it. And who cares they sound different when you say it aloud. And it’ll be just a silly little thing people notice.

My first impression was “way too similar.” But for siblings, I do think it’s more important that they sound different than look different, so I think you could make it work.
