i have to admit i’m piggy-backing a bit on the lovely @daisymeadows post about maeblythe. this may be a bit of a surprise to those of you who don’t know me super well, but i’ve had a bit of a love affair with gwendolyn for years now. i think it’s one of the most beautiful names for a little girl, and she’s finally back on my shortlist.
and so, to celebrate my love for gwendolyn, here are a few questions for you all…
what imagery does gwendolyn give? you can use words, emojis, or whatever is easiest for you!
if your daughter was called gwendolyn, what would her middle name be; what nicknames would you use for her?
and finally, what would you call gwendolyn’s siblings?
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] is such a lush pick. She feels like she could be just as at home on a ranch as she could be on a foggy coast as she would in a city bowling alley. She’s a versatile charmer! Such a pretty name.
what imagery does gwendolyn give?
I think she’s something like this:
Something a little bit picnic-ish, a little bit sunny. I think [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] is a totally poetic name. I imagine a [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] would be incredible my thoughtful, whatever that may mean in the context(s) of her own self.
if your daughter was called gwendolyn, what would her middle name be; what nicknames would you use for her?
I’d certainly use honors (always, lol), so realistically my [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] would be a [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u], or [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
and finally, what would you call gwendolyn’s siblings? [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] and…
→ [name_f]Faye[/name_f]
→ [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]
→ [name_f]Maude[/name_f]
/
→ [name_m]Oswald[/name_m] nn [name_u]Ozzy[/name_u]
→ [name_m]Silas[/name_m]
→ [name_u]Ryder[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] is a sunshine yellow name to me, yet it has seriously studious vibes too! I’d use [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] as a nn, especially as I really like [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] as a full name as well. [name_f]My[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] would be [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and her siblings: [name_f]Marianne[/name_f], [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], [name_u]Emrys[/name_u] and [name_u]Taliesin[/name_u].
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] gives me the vibes of 19th century literary heroines, ones who go against the grain. I imagine muddy shoes hidden beneath dresses, big smiles, and bright eyes. It’s floral but clunky cute.

I don’t really plan to use a middle name for my children, especially if they have a long name (it will be great pain to signature hahah) but what about
@snowmaiden i just adore how you’ve described gwendolyn. i see her as very versatile too, and though most of the names i love feel more at home on a ranch, i love the idea that she has this northeast, vintage side of her. gwendolyn scarlett makes such a gorgeous combination, and i love your idea of silas for a brother. that’s one of my top boy names!
@LibelluleClaire i would call my gwendolyn, “dolly”, too. isn’t it just so spunky and sweet? you’ve listed amazing siblings here, even my own name, and i love that you think it sounds good with gwendolyn!
@EdgeOfTheMeadow i agree with you that gwendolyn is sunshiney yellow! i think honey and daffodils, sunshine, and lemonade. gwendolyn maeve is also gorgeous!!
@Greyblue aw! i love seeing a name described as clunky-cute. that is such a big part of my style. dodie is also brilliant as a nickname for gwendolyn.
i’m not the best at descriptions so this may make no sense
to me gwendolyn is like this:
it’s like a playful name that i can easily imagine on a little girl who loves the outdoors and getting her hands messy. but at the same time it also feels very elegant and regal, like a name fit for a queen.
gwendolyn sadie, gwendolyn magnolia, or gwendolyn luella
i think my favorite nn is gwen!
gwen or the lovely, but stretchy, winnie middle names really depend, but i always will think about gwendolyn lilibet, gwendolyn maud, and gwendolyn fletcher
as a sibling, my top for a girl would have to be dorothea, perhaps called dottie to match with winnie for a boy, id have to go with laurence, perhaps called laurie, which i think goes with both gwen and winnie quite well
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] is green and brown, warm tones, sunshine, summer/autumn, magical but in a cottegecore/woodland fairy kind of way.
I would probably use [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] or [name_f]Wendy[/name_f] as the nn but [name_f]Gwenna[/name_f] and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] are also good options.
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] and [name_m]Conrad[/name_m]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] and [name_m]Harrison[/name_m]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] and [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] and [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] and [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] and [name_u]Meredith[/name_u]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
obsessed with gwenndolynn or gwendolyn
Gwenndolynn [name_u]Rae[/name_u]
Gwenndolyn ottilie may
Gwenndolynn faie
I know they are so similar but siblings would have to be Gwennythene with thee as a nickname
[name_u]Or[/name_u] one of these, [name_f]Thea[/name_f], quinn lea, Faie, Felicity/Florrie, [name_u]Ivory[/name_u], [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], Kiyla, Verne/Verna, Veienna are all names i love together
