Gwenfair

I’ve recently discovered someone with this Welsh name in my family tree (my grandpa is originally from [name]Wales[/name]); she was the sister of my great-great-grandmother (my grandpa’s grandmother).

I had never heard the name before, but I must say, I think it’s rather lovely. My grandpa said it’s pronounced [name]GWEN[/name]-veer.

I don’t think I’d ever be brave enough to use it as a first name, but I think it would make a super middle name, something like [name]Rose[/name] Gwenfair.

Any thoughts on Gwenfair?

Pretty. [name]Guinevere[/name] is the Anglicised version I think but I don’t think there’s any problem using the Welsh spelling.

Now that I know how to pronounce it I really like it, the Welsh spelling is also a good way to honor your family without pinpointing 1 specific person.

[name]Lovely[/name] name, never heard of it before! It’s actually be pronounced like [name]GWEN[/name]-vyre, if that makes sense? “ai” in Welsh makes an “EYE” sound, not “EE”.

I’m partial to just [name]Gwen[/name] as a middle name though  But Gwenfair would be lovely and unusual!

I think Gwenfair is very pretty ([name]GWEN[/name]-vyre) and would be a lovely way to honour your Welsh heritage. [name]Rose[/name] Gwenfair is swoon-worthy!

Gwenfair makes me think of the [name]Ren[/name] Fair. And Gweneviere.

[name]Rose[/name] Gwenfair is fantastic. I agree that it’s a great way to honor your heritage without having to deal with constantly correcting people’s mispronunciations and misspellings.
